    Nice lesson! Hercules is a great tune with an awesome groove! If I had to pick a favorite I think I'd go with If You Want Me To Stay by Sly and The Family Stone. Soooooooo cool!

      Great bass line, that has gone on the list! I love that the bass is so high in the mix - just how I like it!

      @@GregsBassShed High in the mix & really carries the song, imo. It's so damn funky and also fairly simple but with some fun little things thrown in. I need to listen to it right now 😅

    Glad that I’ve found you Greg! I’m new to bass guitar and I’m trying to figure out the fingering. It’s easy for me to put all of my fingers on each string, because when I use one finger I get a buzz on the string.

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! My advice is made sure you don’t have your finger over a fret as that will cause fret buzz. You also need to build up finger strength gradually. That will improve as you play more and you’ll gradually eradicate any buzz. Good luck!

    • @cindybucholz8092

      Thank you so much for your ASAP reply Greg!!! I’ll look to see if my finger is over the fret! I’m excited to see how I will progress!

    Hi Greg, many thanks for sending me the link to Good Times. Such a funky groove. I may be wrong here, but I think Bernard Edwards is using a mode, the E Dorian as he sets off on the E which is the second note of the Dmaj scale, but the notes just seem to fit.
    I’m so pleased you achieved the target for the camera. You would you make but, as you say, it happen really quickly; which is a tribute to you and your channel. I look forward to seeing it in action, adding another dimension to your teaching.
    Thanks again, keep groovin’

      Glad you liked this one Travis. I love playing this style - groove groove groove!
      It’s usual when you first start playing bass to copy and stick to to the original bass line. Then after a while you can start to have fun and play around with it. Then you can start putting your own ideas in and working on developing your own unique style. It takes time but it’s a fun process. Cheers

    Hi Greg, great to hear you are nearly there with the camera fund!!
    Fabulous “funky” lesson. I play lots of this...RnB, Soul, Motown, and Funk; from the sixties and seventies era and beyond. Indeed, the CD “Chic Organisation” has only just arrived an hour ago, so Dance Dance Dance, Good Times and Lost in Music will be echoing through the bass amp shortly.😁
    A good basis for a funky groove lesson (and there’s loads out there to choose from) would be the classic “Good Times” the Chic original. “Everybody Dance” a Bernard Edwards masterpiece bass line is very tricky to play, and teach, but is nevertheless sooo so cool.
    Really enjoyed this lesson thank you.
    Keep groovin’

    Great lesson. May I ask where did you get the drum backing tracks from?

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rob I extracted them from the original tracks using Moises. It can't quite handle certain mixes which is why a couple of the loops sound a bit weird!

    Hey Greg, Thanks for another great lesson. On Funky Soul, is the 7th fret E on the Bb supposed to be 6th fret?

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Ed. Yes that is meant to be 6th fret. I don’t actually know how that happened as I copy and pasted from the notation and that’s usually spot on!

    The first line is cool.Not terribly hard .But muting sympathetic string noise is tantamount.This is always the rule, especially when playing syncopated grooves like you demonstrate here.

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I should have really mentioned about string muting, it's so important here as you say.

      @@johnhewett9483 no problem, it’s good to be reminded. I’m going to return to the iconic female bass players series as it was really popular. Then I’ll have to find an Ida Neilsin bass line that isn’t too complicated to teach and is accessible for students to play!
