I rarely find the guy funny. He's had a few good moments but I remember sitting through What About Bob and not laughing one time. His humor just doesn't translate for me.
Joe Furey is a comedian/writer/producer whose various credits include Late Night with David Letterman, Newsradio, Watching Ellie, and Talkshow with Spike Feresten, as well as the feature film Love and Support.
I think Bill should have went out the stage door for a few seconds and then come back in covered in blood saying, "he won't be heckling you anymore Dave."
I remember this. The rest of it was a camera showing bill paying the guy behind that door to make him look like a tough guy. LOL Great stuff Bill! Well planned!
@@joepermenter7228 haha, I am a dummy. I haven’t seen it in so long that I don’t even remember that, think I will have revisit a great movie. Thanks for making me think about it.
Bill Murray was most certainly that raw. He used to work with Del Close and others in the Chicago improv scene, and has described that time as being very formative for him. I'm sure he could improvise any situation thrown at him.
I think the funniest thing about this video is that so many commenters on it assume that the audience wasn't fully aware that the whole thing was staged.
Joe Furey (Heckler) is an Emmy nominated writer/producer/comedian whose various credits include Late Night with David Letterman, Newsradio, Watching Ellie, and Talkshow with Spike Feresten, as well as the feature film Love and Support.
Letterman always had the best bit players like him. More so on NBC. I found the CBS show almost unwatchable compared to LateNight it played too much to an older audience and lost 90% of it's edginess.
I'm surprised Joe found work in the entertainment industry after his horrible treatment of Mr. Murray. Impressed how Mr. Letterman was able to keep his cool and remember his sacred vow.
One time in Pittsburgh I had breakfast with Bill in the hotel we were staying. Did you know he’s a big fan of crochet? No, me neither. I was quite surprised, but he showed me the hat he was working on. We became great friends.
No, a fake? Noooooo. Did NO ONE here actually watch Late Night? Of COURSE this guy is a plant-he's one of the writers! It's called comedy, folks. This happened all the time on this show. And I can tell from experience that the rest of the audience was real. The old days of Late Night were pretty loose and anything could happen. That was the magic of the old Dave.
I could tell it was fake but I wasn't sure if the audience was in on it (at least before Bill Murray actually got up there). Thanks for clearing it up.
Who else saw this and got the first minute thought it was real? Murray is a national treasure and that "audience member " will always have this memorable moment. Lmfao
When I was at the PLAV in Cudahy on a Friday night, I saw...in the corner....Bill Murray and Terry Wasinski bowling and drinking Schlitz Shorties. That's when I knew.

This clip reminds me of a review I once read of Letterman's show long, long ago, when he was just becoming popular. The reviewer said the show wasn't a talk show--it was a parody of a talk show.
I remember Robin Williams talking about legal insanity - essentially that you can do things or get away with being nuts as long as you are entertaining - I think Bill Murray fits into that category very well.
He was a plant??? No way!!! I thought it was a real heckler. Thank you Collin C. Thank you sooo much. Where would us dummies be without such a smart guy like you. God bless you, Sir. God bless you.
I saw bill at a Chilis in Boston. He ate a fry off my plate on his way out the door. He looked right at me and said, “no one will ever believe you.” 🤣
this comment made me laugh so hard, because i know its true
Flipping hilarious...
I believe 🧚🛸🔮⛄
To bad Bill is a Pederast.
No way.
If you had said "He ate a pry of my flate on his day out the woor" then it would have been equally unbelievable.
That heckler is conan and bill burr's love child
That is such a perfect comparison
I thought so too, like conon before plastic surgery or wearing a mask 😅😂
looks like Conan Obrian ha
I had to scroll down SO FAR before I reached a comment about how ill fitting Murray's suit was. Hope this helps future generations...
Suits suck, slave outfit.
@@JollyRoger150 good suits are cool as hell
yes this helped.. hello from 2021..
Because he had too easily move and kick probably, thuhh.
Seemed to have been the preferred fit in the 90s. Remember Friends? Bellowing bowling shirts and ill-fitting suits ahoy.
Furey went on to be a writer on NewsRadio, one of the best sitcoms ever. Very surreal show.
I love news radio I have it on DVD
I love when Bill does Letterman. He always brings something new to the show and these two have a great chemistry..
One of the best things I like about him is that he irritated the beJezus out of Richard Dreyfus.
@jondough930Lol yup
Man, Conan O'Brien was really high strung in his early years.
Axel why are you watching Lettermen videos
Wow he does look like him
I was wondering if he was a plant.
@@MrTrincent No, he was a person.
@@MrTrincentDefinitely a plant...person.
The heckler actually wrote this entire bit, with Bill adding some improv lines.
I can't believe anyone would even think for a second that Bill wanted us to believe this was real. It's a joke. And Bill Murray is hilarious always.
Bill Murray is a notorious troll though.
I rarely find the guy funny. He's had a few good moments but I remember sitting through What About Bob and not laughing one time. His humor just doesn't translate for me.
Only an idiot would believe that was real
Don't know about hilarious but it is poorly staged.
He was right.
Bill Murray has always been one of my favorite comedians. I love it when he does unpredictable things. 😅

the lady behind him is the best thing about this
Her expressions?
A 90s Karen

Classic bill. This is why i grew up waitinf for a bill murray interview. Never knew what you were gonna get
The heckler sounds like and kinda looks like a young Bill burr.
Joe Furey
No he doesn't, four yrs latee.
One of Conan's relatives

he's conan's first cousin, the red hair, the verbose persona----two giveaways right there . . .
😂😂😂
@@philmiller99Not really lol
Bill's the man. Actor, comedian, defender of David Letterman, bouncer. He can do it all.
I think Bill should have went out the stage door for a few seconds and then come back in covered in blood saying, "he won't be heckling you anymore Dave."
The expressions on the face of the woman behind the heckler are solid gold.
Trust Bill Murray to bring along his own heckler when appearing on late night TV.
I remember this. The rest of it was a camera showing bill paying the guy behind that door to make him look like a tough guy. LOL Great stuff Bill! Well planned!
Should've included that in this vid.
Joe Furey is my best friend's brother. A very talented writer on many shows and such a good sport for being Murray's foil in this skit.

The fact that this video has over 1.6 million views is more funny than the video itself.
The fact that it was fake makes it funny…and as much as I love Bill, the heckler was the funniest part.
I was real, Daniel Forsyth sued him after the show for 50 thousand pounds
Bill is a pedo. always was
Not fake, just a comedy sketch.
The term " the world is his stage" has to be applied to Bill Murray. His antics outside showbiz are as good as his movies.
I think the funniest thing about this video is that so many commenters on it assume that the audience wasn't fully aware that the whole thing was staged.
The woman behind him clearly thinks this is real at first.
The two guys in front of the heckler are in on it too. So is the guy to the heckler's right; the guy with the aisle seat.
why is everyone saying this is fake? that's definitely Bill Letterman and David Murray
lol
Yeah & it's definitely Conan O'Brien! What are they complaining about? Nothing fake about that.
Now thats funny

It’s definitely Conan show from TBS #CoCoteam 😂
That's more Bill Murray than in the movie the ear pull is totally from ghostbusters 2 wow omg
This should happen to every heckler.
This shows what a brave man Bill Murray is. Not many people would have the courage to stand up to a heckler like that!
It was a bit. You know that, right?
I sure hope this comment or is being sarcastic..,,
Bill Murray in his prime was unstoppable force of nature
Until they done him in zombieland
He had the power of two thousand bottles of whiskey.

Then he decided to become a trump supporter and destroyed his legacy 👎
