Only Marina can make songs (even album-Love+fear) about human society, personality, accepting who you are in a very catchy, unique way. Marina does your head hurt of wearing crown everytime you make a new song or album 👸
@@darioooxx1842 I actually liked that album. I definitely think it's not the best album but there are pretty good snogs there, plus none of them are shallow.
I love the eye of the storm reference. I feel like it could be seen two ways. 1.) being neutral or at peace despite the chaos surrounding us or 2.) acknowledging the ways in which “peace” is obtained through destruction. This can be referring to the ways in which developing countries must suffer in order to profit wealthy countries.
Personally, it reminds me of a quote by Sam Harris: ,,You are not controlling the storm, and you are not lost in it. You ARE the storm." It's a quote about the concept of free will (specifically the lack of it). Some people, when they're told they have "no free will", misunderstand what it means. It does not mean you cannot do whatever you want (you can), but you cannot choose What you want, because it's always determined by something, consciously or unconsciously. The way i see the verse in the song, it's like Marina saying that despite being a part of the deterministic system (being the storm), there is a part of you that is separate from all of the existing determiners (DNA, body, environment) - you are simply the observer, you are the eye of the storm. just like everyone else. It's something we all share. Marina didn't have to mean it like that, but that's the way i personally interpret it for myself haha.
I understand "i can be the eye of the storm" as "i can control my own life even if the whole world around me is mess, my soul is mine own and i can achieve the power to fulfill what i want trough self work and evolution".The eye of the storm herself taking control of her own life.
Marinas getting into some deep philosophical shit here. This song seems like it's talking about enlightenment. She's taking a look inside herself and understands that the ego does not exist and that all you can identify with is the observer. I'm not my body or my mind or my brain and I'm not my feelings or my thoughts or DNA. Marina seems to understand material body is disconnected from her sense of identity and being. Where are you located within your body, it's hard to locate yourself because....you don't really exist. You're just a cluster of cells that created an identity within itself. The "I" of the "storm", possibly referring to her final conclusion that perhaps she is the all encompassing witness to existence. That is, the universe experiencing itself.
I think this song is about the impending climate crisis. The ancient dream is to have a good life, but now that we have the tech we ruined the earth, and ruin ultimately the goal of our ancestors. “We’re not living in a seminal age, the walls are being broken and we’re ready for change” it’s rooting for us and hopeful we can change things before it’s too late. I think the idea of her saying she is not her body, mind or brain means she is not singing this song or sharing this message as something for herself but as a public service announcement. I think this is a protest song protesting continuing practices that harm the environment.
This song is literally the meaning of life, how did she do that? Dammmn. Humanity has evolved so much it can artistically fit its own purpose in a 3 minutes MV. DAMN. And wow it sounds good. alternative yet very harmonic and easy to listen to. Plus the healing and confident lyrics... Really, she worked it until it was perfect. I'll listen to this with TXT's "Dear Sputnik" because of the "spacial" vibes and comforting lyrics about the worth of living. Thank you MARINA

@@dumbbabey4220 I don't know man, they're all filled with poorly said empty platitudes that could be written way better, especially since she has done so before in Electra Heart. It's a shame too because they sound great otherwise.
" You could be lost but you belong to the world" Really love that phrase, and all of the lyrics of the album in general, Marina is insane, she doesn´t have any bad song!!
This song is so espiritual, the fact that she doesn’t identify herself with her body, brain or feelings has so much to do with the budism philosophy. It says that your soul is something separated from your body or your thoughts, and the problem of the human being that causes him pain is to identify himself with his thoughts. I love that Marina is this deep and she shares it with the world ❤️
the way this fits both into the "love yourself" concept/mindset and the "i am nothing but my consciousness" concept/mindset is crazy. as someone who grew up educated by Christianity, and always believed in the theory that we're not our ego, this really describes my point of view abt life. we are nothing but our consciousness, we're only here to try things, to experience things, knowing we can shift anytime we want to, to any other ego we want to

@just-like-magick yes there Is nothing wrong with interpretating a song in different ways. This song is about spirituality and realizing your true nature which is why she says don't conform to this world and she she tells you her true nature it isn't the brain or her body or thoughts but the observer. In the age of symbolism, sarcasm and metaphors, these lyrics are damn straight. Fucking love it.
I feel like songs (pop at least) has become very light on metaphors and symbolism lately. Very down to earth, what you read is what you get kinda thing. Makes less room for interpretation i feel like.
@@alexterieur8813 well just like pop movies, pop songs also have to be diluted in their lyrics to be liked by most people... if you are looking for creatively meaningful songs, I suggest going for indie or experimental artists.
@@aakarshan4644 yes but i feel like pop wasnt always like this. It goes without saying other genres like indie are more likely to be more coded but even i feel like there is a current of very simplistic lyrics across many genres
@@alexterieur8813 well yes I agree. I don't wanna say it but most pop music nowadays is kinda shallow. today pop music is an escapist cope from a noisy world rather than a creative outlet from a mundane world in the past.

I. Love. This. Comment. Bless you.
No it's a Fortnite reference 🙂
I understand "i can be the eye of the storm" as "i can control my own life even if the whole world around me is mess, my soul is mine own and i can achieve the power to fulfill what i want trough self work and evolution".The eye of the storm herself taking control of her own life.

"You don't have to be like everybody else,
You don't have to fit into the norm, You are not here to conform" MARINA always give a life advice :)
Yeah. Most people don't realise about the depth of this song.
@@mmddubstepcanbefree6277 nah, she's just very straightforward about it enough for this explanation being half the lyrics.
We forget we are part of the universe, not living just alongside it.

This song is so espiritual, the fact that she doesn’t identify herself with her body, brain or feelings has so much to do with the budism philosophy. I love that Marina is this deep and she shares it with the world ❤️
