As someone living in a toxic, abusive, and homophobic family your music has gotten me through the worst of it so many times. I would always listen to crybaby when i was told that I was "overreacting" or being "sensitive" I would listen to mad hatter, k-12, and after school to reclaim my power and autonomy. And now I'm growing out of old ways and truly coming into a new me so to watch you going under the same process and making music like this is really inspiring and it shows me that I'm not alone. i’m genuinely so proud of how far Melanie has came with their music. I remember listening to Dollhouse for the first time ever and relating to it and it made me wanna continue listening to her to see what messages she’d continue to unfold in her music. This new era has me excited and although I’ll miss crybaby so much, I’m just happy and glad they have improved as a character and are becoming more comfortable with themself.

She never really cared though and she was so messed up. Tried helping her so much cause I loved her like a sister. She kept getting into toxic relationships. She once tried to end her life took me hours to get the knife away and then she acted like nothing ever happened, started ignoring me and talked on the phone with one of her side hoes. Tried to get her help paid for her to go get meds for her depression then she expected me to keep paying. She always used me to go out, buy her stuff and drinks. Always asked me to do stuff out of comfort zone and I defended her so many times it was all a waste of time. All the words all the pleading wasted. She affected my mental health gave me panic attacks. When I finally found people who genuinely cared for me and I had to take a step back and hang out less, she had the gall to tell me I was a crap friend and I never cared. I cared too damn much that was my problem it wasn't worth the good times she was taking me deep down the rabbit hole with her. So guess that makes me evil in her books. Danielle if you ever see this imma jump skip over ur narcissistic ass and yes I'm still hurting but at least I have friends and an amazing boyfriend to help me get over it. You have no one now good luck 😊

Ive had almost the same experience and it was incredibly difficult to realise just how bad she was because we also had such good times together and she helped me through a lot in the begining but it just grew so toxic i couldnt hold on for my own sanity. Its been a little over a year now since weve last talked and let me tell you it gets so much better, dont ever feel guilty for saving yourself you deserve happiness!

God I felt this.. I let a friend basically sexually harass me because I worried about their suicidal tendencies but then their ex (who wasn't even their partner at the time) bullied me because they were jealous over our "friendship", my friend just shrugged it off and I became so distraught because I realized I was just a toy and they joked about it too. It took me a year to get up again but I'm slowly working on myself now, sadly they are dating a new friend of mine that I also had to basically drop but I'll be ok one day..
I literally just discovered Mel, but oh wow did this song hit me in the soul. I got out of an abusive friendship not very long ago and I'm still sorta learning how to set my boundaries and not feel bad about it. I notice how in the beginning when she starts to sing the guitar in the background is kind of hushed but becomes louder as the song goes on, highlighting the detail of the anger in this song which I LOOOOVE.
That's a really cool detail you found. I found something a little similar to that in THE CONTORTIONIST but with the vocals instead of the instrumental. I just love how Melanie writes and helps produce, I love it when there's cool details not in the lyrics that still somewhat contribute to the theme of the song!

MELANIES THOUGHTS ON EVIL- My favorite of the conflict songs! CJ laid down guitar and looped it, I paced around the pool and wrote the lyric and melody in around 30 minutes. Flowed really easily and effortlessly. I think it's because I just had a mental turning point where I was finally able to articulate perfectly what I had dealt with in my last relationship. I wanted the lyrics to be the most savage and the most cunty. Every time I wrote something I was like no it's not mean enough. It's about dealing with a narcissist who ironically calls you evil just because you're able to see through their bullshit. I spent the entire day blowing out my vocals recording it. It was definitely the most challenging song to sing.
