Here is the First Nature Hummingbird Feeder designed by Walmart, that for me keeps the bees out, this is an affiliated link and the price is GREAT! I even bought one on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/275437437866?hash=item402159c3aa:g:tCcAAOSwlfRjCoN9&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoDguISSSPtCQr9N6mZc4BRsWzB5rA2o%2FflrXEjydg1xob5pNM3qJkPnC2zBlumMRZ9hmj2%2FKbfhtvpXOSOTCtj9rPO5CMqcDaMWSA0BRawB2fPBOBqGnreeaKySFMfQ3mpRCuwyUS%2BPYQE%2BiISyB8U5P9yWAYtKIHtHB4hoXjtj6KNALvcO5cRBfVNcneyqnWMBoPf7VRLlhvDuJLRK9BTk%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-LkyMTfYA#rwid&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338267736&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1
I only use the saucer style feeders that I get at Wild Birds Unlimited. They're extremely easy to clean and fill. My hummingbirds love those feeders. They sit high on the perches, and can see around them easily. They're dishwasher safe, but I normally only need to run them in the dishwasher a couple times a season. At the end of the season here, I run them through the dishwasher on the sani cycle, dry them throughly, wrap them up, and store all but 1 for the winter. I keep one filled and available for any winter visitors that may show up here. Where I am on the SC/GA border, it's not uncommon to have 1 or more hang around.
We too have a saucer out for the Orioles and my Ice Cream containers would like your feeders too. Bee can not get in my ice cream container hummingbird feeders. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, I'm in Nevada and you have to change the feeders daily. I'm concerned this year because none of my Bees returned. You got to protect the Bees too.
The Native bees usually do not really bother hummingbird feeders as they hunt insects and search out flowers, and Yes they are very important to our environment. Here where I live Honey bees that are owned by people that have learned about sugar water, (or other sugars), they look for feeders, some bees do split off owned honey bee hives (keep in mind Honey bees are not native bees, in fact they are an invasive species) and those end up in the wild and also know about sugar).
I have hundreds of hummers daily, but no Oreols. I use 2 different styles of feeders. I use the Walmart feeder with thin slits. I haven't had any trouble with the birds getting their beaks stuck. We have wasps terribly, so the larger holed feeders are only an invite for the wasps. And I'm allergic to wasp stings. The second feeder I use is a skinny feeder with 1 feeding spot that only hold 2+ ounces of nectar that I purchased at the Dollar Store. Super cheap, and easy to clean. I paid $2.00 each, and then caught the on year end sale for 1/2 price. My hummingbird visitors actually prefer the Dollar Store feeder. I made perches for each of the Dollar Store feeders using your method of pipe cleaners and small stick. I do have to fill the about 3 times as much, but if the birds enjoy them more, I'm game.
I am glad you put this video out, and I may try the WalMart one, simply out of desperation. For the most of the summer, we have been enjoying a small flock of hummers fighting over the 3 feeders I had out, with no bee problems ... for the past few weeks, however, the whole situation turned into a freakin nightmare, with hundreds of yellow jackets swarming the feeders. It got to the point where the hummingbirds could not get near them. So, I took them down. I tried just moving them at first, but the bees kept on. This is the first year we've had this problem with the bees ... no honeybees or wasps... just the stupid yellow jackets. The feeders with the raised flowers may as well have a revolving door on them for the bees. I may just leave them down for the rest of this season, then try again next year with something definitely more bee proof.
Two years ago, I made the decision to TRAIN THE BEES. So I put out the sugar water in bottle caps. I have a patio with a fence, and I put the caps on the top of the fence. Normally the bee problem is later in the season as the "flowers with the good stuff in them" tend to dwindle their supply of nectar. And I could even refill and change out the caps WHILE they were eating without a problem. With their own supply, they left the hummers alone. Do Bee Guards work for you??? I have them, and only a few bees ever got stupid enough to work that hard just to get caught up in them.
I’m glad you made that warning. I would hesitate to buy the Walmart one because of those narrow slots. My husband once had to rescue a female Rubythroat whose beak got stuck in a window screen. Never saw that happen before or since, but it scared both of us. She wouldn’t have lasted long if she hadn’t been found quickly.
I bought several of the second Walmart feeders you showed that you liked. The birds loved it until the bees came. They managed to drink and scare the birds away. So I put a couple more feeders out away from the original site. So far so good. I love watching them land & go to town on the feeders & then do their aerial ballet in my yard. They come right under my covered patio almost landing on my brother's head! This usually happens right after I clean & replenish them. I suppose it's wishful thinking, but I kind of think they are saying thank you. This is the 3rd year I have been feeding them & I noticed that they brought their babies to my feeders . I got another surprise this year. I got my first Oriole. He confiscated one of the hummingbird feeders. After seeing it several days in a row I went out & purchased a couple of oranges & some grape jelly for it I went on line looking for Oriole feeders and as soon as I picked out the one I wanted it disappeared. I live near Boise Idaho & according to the sites I checked out they usually leave here in August . Oh well, the article I read said as long as i put out food for it it will continue to come back year after year. I hope so. Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge with us. I know your advice surely helps me. I got on a live chat you & your daughter had last winter because my hummers didn't leave. It was freezing here with plenty of snow & my feeders kept freezing solid. I asked you for your advice to keep them alive & did everything you & your daughter said to do & to my knowledge they made it! I always had backup nectar in the house with extra feeders, so even before my coffee I would fill the new feeders & replace them first thing before they woke up. Then I cleaned the original feeders & emptied the ice and got them ready for the next day. I guess it was enough to keep them going because one day in late November I noticed they were gone. I was sad to see them go, but I knew it was for the best. They should be leaving soon to go to their winter homes & then I get to wait till April when they come back. They mean so much to me I feed everything that comes in my yard. The squirrels, about 10 kinds of birds including a quail family. So thanks again to both of you. Your knowledge and tips have help make my boring life into an exciting adventure. I really want ti get a pair of binoculars so i can see if I can identify others. I always have some kind of birds in the winter because I put out suet, orange & apple slices covered in peanut butter & rolled on seeds. They love it ,the squirrels too. Well till next time, Patty. your friend from Mt. Home Idaho 🦜
I've been having such a time with bees lately. Today was the last straw! My hummingbirds were being chased off by these pests crawling all over their Dollar Tree feeders. (The feeders from WalMart were being swarmed more.) This morning I decided to give the bees their own feeder - a shallow saucer with hummingbird syrup in it. The one Dollar Tree feeder that they were swarming all over I moved to the saucer and set it down. After they found the saucer, I went out and grabbed the hummingbird feeder, blew off the bees and brought it inside. The bees are now swarming the saucer and leaving my hummingbirds and their feeders alone! YAY!!!! Over the next few days I'll be moving the bee saucer farther away from the hummingbird feeding area of my yard. Thanks for the idea, Robbie!!! My hummers are happy once again!
Amazon has some under "SEWANTA Hummingbird Feeder 16 oz" and you get a two-pack. They are perfect but when I got them, they were $11 for both and are now $16. I am sure the price will go back down again. I have no issues with ants, bees, or anything and the hummingbirds seem to prefer them over the dollar sore ones.

Hi Robbie, I have 3 humming birds at my new farmhouse. ❤️. I noticed a spider near one of the feeders and the hummers won't go near it. Have you ever had that problem?
I enlarged the 16 slits in the $5 feeders from Walmart and now the bees are going to them, is there any way to run them off without taking all the feeders down? I have 12 feeders up, 8 being the WM feeders.

I bought one from Dollar tree, I only get a couple of birds. I haven't seen any for a few days. They say they are getting ready to go south or wherever they go.
I bought some of the feeders from walmart and some from the dollar tree. I haven't had any problems with the bees, but I do have a lot of plants and flowers for them. However, I can't keep the ants out of my feeders no matter what I do! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
This summer I put auto/marine waterproof grease on the bottoms of my shepherd hooks and that has worked really well keeping the ants away. However, if ants can get from a branch or leaf that is touching the pole or feeder, they will.
I have 4 of the ones you like, I also have one glass one with white flowers and bee guards. I went out this morning to gather my empty feeders that weren’t swarming with yellow jackets and there were two bee’s starting to crawl out through the bee guard!! Also, there was a green praying mantis on it, do they eat yellow jackets ? This feeder was hanging in my tree in the shade. I’ve heard about putting tea tree oil around the holes to keep bee’s off & it doesn’t bother the hummingbirds. I made up a soda bottle trap for the bee’s & it had a lot of dead sugar bee’s in it, yuck.

Very true, they cannot digest or metabolize, raw sugar, because it’s not sucrose. So just make sure you get the plain old table sugar.
I also been using the saucer style feeder. So far I haven’t had any bee or wasp issues. However they visit my water fountains.

I even bought one on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/275437437866?hash=item402159c3aa:g:tCcAAOSwlfRjCoN9&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoDguISSSPtCQr9N6mZc4BRsWzB5rA2o%2FflrXEjydg1xob5pNM3qJkPnC2zBlumMRZ9hmj2%2FKbfhtvpXOSOTCtj9rPO5CMqcDaMWSA0BRawB2fPBOBqGnreeaKySFMfQ3mpRCuwyUS%2BPYQE%2BiISyB8U5P9yWAYtKIHtHB4hoXjtj6KNALvcO5cRBfVNcneyqnWMBoPf7VRLlhvDuJLRK9BTk%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-LkyMTfYA#rwid&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338267736&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1
They are relentless
Hi there 😁 you've a gorgeous picture on your profile! Just decided to stop by and say hi. I hope my compliment is appreciated
Great video thank you
I bought one from Dollar tree, I only get a couple of birds. I haven't seen any for a few days. They say they are getting ready to go south or wherever they go.
And if you have a flat surface or a surface where they ants crawl up you can put Vaseline on the surface and that will keep them all just a suggestion
Thank you
I bought some of the feeders from walmart and some from the dollar tree.
@@mamamilkweed7668 thanks! I'll try that.
Thank you!❤
How do you get rid of wood.bees
I use spray olive oil and that keeps the bees away. they can't spell the sugar water.
Why would you kill bees? NOT good!
@@WHAT_THE_F0XX they are yellow jackets, NOT honey bees

@@dmariewalker6880 your comment clearly states you made a soda bottle trap FOR THE BEES and it had a lot of DEAD SUGAR BEES in it.
