@@WoodsRydah trail is not too bad and not many in Singapore. A bit rough. Trails are concentrated to one area, so all of them are near one another, in the nature reserves. We do not have long flowy trails though.

@@Yohanyothan It’s handles the rock gardens smoothly, The remote switch helps a lot with climbing up then then back down..As for big jumps my 2016 or has 130mm of travel so not the best but I believe the newer ones have 150mm so it’ll make a difference, I overall recommend the bike though🚵🏽♂️
The 2nd one is for traction so the shock has a dual piston like the fox float so when you put it in full it uses the both for decend and the middle one uses 1 piston for amore firm ride for less rough ground and it also makes the suspension travel shorter.

I want to buy the Scott Genius 950 which is the same as the 920 but it has fox suspension, so just a little upgrade and costs $500 more. Would you recommend this bike for decent junky black downhill lines? To me it looked like you were riding between green and light blue tracks.
Btw, I think this bike would work very well on the chunky black downhill lines it felt very plush. It excels on the climbs too. I think it might not be that fun on the flowy playful trails where you want to pop off small hips, bumps, and roots because the suspension is so plush when it's open. It tends to be built for a more burly descent to keep speed and traction control trough the sketchy lines.
@@FesteringRatSub I need to amend my sizing comment. I got confused with the Rocky Mountain demo. I liked the XL in the RM, but the Large in Scott felt good to me. I didn't ride the Scott in XL because the Large felt just right.
I've got the Genius 940 XL, its sweet and I do really beleive paying the extra for over the 950. I changed the tyres recently from the Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.6s to the 2.35 Magic Mary front, Hans Dampf rear soft snakeskin. Rides much better.
Great video! I bought a Spark 720 in March & sold it in April. This was before I knew the difference between an XC bike and a trail bike. After a ton of research, I found that the Genius was what I needed. One ride on the Genius 920 in May & I bought it. The Spark, being an XC bike has a much more compact geometry; designed to squirrel up mountains pretty quick, but the downhill can be pretty sketchy. The Genius, being a trail bike is so much more slack in the geometry; designed to just lean back and let er rip! I can’t say enough about how much I love the Genius. I realize everyone has a different taste and style they like to ride; that said though, take them both out for a test run and see for yourself. I chose to forget about the sketchy twitchy Spark and go with the chill ripper Genius. Just my thoughts.

My logic is to buy the Genius 750 and when I'm using the mostly flat trails ride it mostly in traction control mode, Do you think in the long run that may damage the shocks If im repeatedly using the traction control mode (restricting the travel to 100 mm) for hours on end?
I don't see how you would hurt the shocks riding mostly with the pedal l dampener on. In fact, I've had two different Bike Shop mechanics recommend riding the shock in the dampened state full time for trail riding.
Not sure, but even if the trails are kinda flat, it's always good to have a bit of travel in the front just to save your wrists. on my shitty bike for commuting places people always wanna steal my other bike, the fork has no settings or anything, and it only works to get some of the impact when going over a pothole or something, not sure if it's supposed to be 100 or 120mm in real it moves four centimeters and are so stiff that it doesn't move at all by pedal strikes in climbing. When setting the bike in lockout the fork should become like that,, I'm thinking about saving a long time so i can buy a genius, i just broke the motor on my levo and now using the Shit bike (diamant mogul 2) All the time, it's a dangerous bike making you hang over the front wheel, just a little bump and it feels like it wanna catapult you over the bar

I did ride both and liked them both.. Of course this is my personal experience, but I felt like the genius was better because of the twin lock out. Felt like a better climber and descender. Hard to not like either of them. I'm really interested in trying the new Scott ransom.

I’m very new to the sport and thinking of upgrading from my giant stp do it all mountain biking which I honestly enjoyed but struggle on the climbs but the dropper post solve the issue just a bit. So thinking of getting a starter dual sus that could last me for more years to come without the trouble of upgrading new parts. The genius has good components aswell and their currently on sale here in Australia and my budget just $2-3k so really torn between 2 lovers as they say 😁.

Im looking for a genius 950, im 5'11", do you think L size would be good for me? Im just between M and L. I am also considering the the Cannondale habit 4 2019, but im not sure if it's 130mm travel would be enough. MBString size Large would be my choice but you could go either way. Mes size may feel a little more playful but the Lg. Will feel more stable and roomier in the cockpit. I don’t know anything about the cannondale. 130mm of travel is a great option coming off a hard tail. It should be great for aggressive trail rides.

MBString I rode the Evil Following MB last year. It was 120mm travel. Due to the susp design it felt like 140. I loved it. I went more suspension to a 160mm bike cause I was riding black and some Double black trails. The following was plenty for everything else. I think 130-140 mm is a good balance as 160 is a little too much for 90% of the trails I ride.
I always wondered what people mean with "great climber" and I always see them do 3000ft of elevation as much. I have a *short* travel bike (100mm front, 90mm rear) and I've never felt much (or any) pedal bob while climbing seated even with both suspensions open. Sometimes I'd like to get a 130/120 bike for handling technical stuff a bit faster, but I'm always concerned with people saying they climb well and they don't really climb much, I wanna do 30-40 miles with at least 4500-6500ft of elevation in one ride, will a 130/120mm handle well in such "heavy" climbing scenarios? I usually end up tired with a 100/90mm bike after that much climbing in such distance, not sure how much more tired would I be with a 130/120mm bike, but I'm pretty sure 150+ travel bikes are not an option.
I’ve noticed the bikes geometry (head tube angle, wheel base, seat tube angle, etc) play a big role in how easily and comfortably they ascend. I’m much more tired in my enduro 150 travel bike than on a trail bike on a 25 mile ride with 3,500ft of vert. even when you can lock out suspension, the slacker longer bikes require more energy to climb. but they do feel more stable at high speeds.

@@josephfarrugia2350 depends what you are going to use it for.its a very long time since i saw this video.but several friends have spark,,here in norway its cheaper less slack comes with Shimano eqipment and a boring handle bar.while the genius is sligthly slacker have sram eqipment high end suspension smaller chain ring rised handle bar shorter stem and can fit wider tires..spark is also cheaper if you take away the spark rc competion which is a full suspension xcountry with short travel, which is probably the fastest at road lite trails XC etc and also the most boring one.genius are more of a trick bike for real mountain trials.but i dont remember this video and its years since i tried those bikes exept i havent tried the rc comp its also too expensive
as far as I know scott spark is cross country oriented XC with smaller travel as you noticed and Genius is more trail/enduro oriented with more travel, I would not compare them too much they are different....
Totally agree. Also the difference in tyre size (agile 27.5" vs. rolling 29") has a much bigger impact on the riding character than the bike geometry. I am very happy with my Spark 710. It climbs like an ibex and goes down like an avalanche on rails, just the way I love it :-)
Bought genius 760 not long ago. Great bike & love it! However the twin lock remote sucks! Due to covid19 unable to get it fix as the shop is closed. Hoping that the warranty still covers as the bike is less than 4 months. Otherwise no more scott and will go for other brand.
It was because of installation error. However can't claim warranty. The after sales service SUCKS!!!😡😤. The agent/distributor here is damn............👎👎👎👎👎
These were the 2019 models right? The genius if it was the 2019, should have a ramp switch on the rear shock. Allows you to flip between linear and progressive. Might have been in progressive mode. Also not sure if the 2.6 29er tyres might suck some of the trail out of it. The fork, well not much you can do with that in adjustment, volume spacers, a little more air if you want more pop. Ideally, replace it with a Fox 36 GRIP 2 )) Think the forks are the let down for the new Geniuses but I suppose Scott wants people to pay attention to their new Ransom AM Platform.

yeah, the 2019 has the switch but the whole Genius range comes spec'd with the Fox 34. Would love that to be ditched for the 36. Also eyeing the Norco Sight C2 or C1, C2 comes with the Pike and the C1 comes with the Fox 36 Grip 2. Comparable bike to the Genius in the All Mountain / Trail category but with 20mm less in the rear. Choices, choices )
This is a year late but i just saw a ransom at my LBS that is the 2020 model and honestly it was spec'd terribly! X fusion shock and rockshox recon with sx eagle drivetrain. Is that just because it's the lowest priced model? My genius has better specs in every one of those areas.
It’s not an accurate comparison. You’ve gone on 2 different bikes with varying rim sizes. So to say you like one over the other, at least choose the same wheel size. I’m a spark fanboy.. but still, I think I’m more a fan of a 29er and would prefer the genius in this review (much the same as you).
Why do you prefer to the 29er? I had a Trek Rumblefish 29er as my first legit MTB and just recently picked up a 27.5 tire Scott Spark 750 and the Scott feels like it is half the weight and unbelievably maneuverable. I love the Scott 750.
forcealpine87 I think with the 29er there’s a little less effort in going over obstacles in the downhill, but the trade off is that you’ve got to be more deliberate in your actions as the larger wheels feel cumbersome at first. I love the heck out of 27.5s for their nimbleness and quick acceleration, but I’ve been bitten by rocks and tree limbs quite a lot on them also, the 29 just seems to roll and accelerate quicker (and it might just be me) when going downhill. Uphill, really not much different except (for me) when it’s a bit techy and there’s a step up which can be done with little effort with a smaller rim is a little harder and takes more effort with the 29. That’s all my opinion though. I’m not pro, so the differences are probably a placebo effect.
The climb at 3:25 is a perfect example of why manual lockout shocks suck compared to auto lock shock like the Specialized Brain. The Brain will only open when the wheel hits an obstacle; it otherwise stays solid on the climb. With these Scott bikes, you’ll be flicking the lever every second!!!
I dont find i do that on my Genius 940. I just do it at the start of the climb and you dont even need to lock it out. You can run it fully open and it climbs well.

I love the heck out of 27.5s for their nimbleness and quick acceleration, but I’ve been bitten by rocks and tree limbs quite a lot on them also, the 29 just seems to roll and accelerate quicker (and it might just be me) when going downhill. Uphill, really not much different except (for me) when it’s a bit techy and there’s a step up which can be done with little effort with a smaller rim is a little harder and takes more effort with the 29. That’s all my opinion though. I’m not pro, so the differences are probably a placebo effect.
The climb at 3:25 is a perfect example of why manual lockout shocks suck compared to auto lock shock like the Specialized Brain. The Brain will only open when the wheel hits an obstacle; it otherwise stays solid on the climb. With these Scott bikes, you’ll be flicking the lever every second!!!
I dont find i do that on my Genius 940. I just do it at the start of the climb and you dont even need to lock it out. You can run it fully open and it climbs well.
Maybe, but isnt the Brain like much much much more expensive?
