I had not noticed the difference between the commands "Let there be..." and "Let the land produce..." and "Let the sea teem with...". That's a subtle but important difference.
I thought this was interesting too.........but........While the terms can lead to a tendency to think of some type of secondary agency, causation, one must keep the texts in context which highlight God's direct activity 1:21: So God created the great sea creatures 1:25: And God made the beasts of the earth
But verses 11-12 omit direct activity by God and suggest secondary agency:
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.

@@aaabbb-py5xd- The different verses show different modes of creation. Read Genesis 1 and note the differences.
@@deanschulze3129 How do you know the verses are documenting different modes of creation. I mean, believers are the first to say that the bible is open to interpretation, and specifically, their interpretation, which may change over time. It could well be that the author here chose his phrases to achieve literary variety. After all, the whole bible can't be this guy begets that guy begets wow. So how does anyone have any confidence that this is what the bible says, and how do the faithfuls know that this is what god meant or intended. Lastly, without the often cited Augustine and Aquinas who had created a philosophical gap into which one could load a god, would you even be a christian?

The supposed contradiction of Genesis and evolution has always puzzled me and many others. This episode is so helpful in coming to understand it differently and in eliminating that contradiction. Very, very good.

No God, no creation. That leaves evolution or panspermia as sole contenders. But panspermia moves only the evolution problem from earth into space.
And honestly: Your question is the rhetorical talking point of so many creationistic TH-camrs. Buy a biology textbook and you find the evidence biologists can offer. I am a geophysicist, why should I discuss evolution theory with you if there are people who know much more about the topic?

This series of Wonder Seed of Life is very interesting and so beautiful in learning about how God created us and the heavens and the earth through the book of Genesis, God's creation was pretty amazing, I love the way Jonathan Roumie's narrating this and not only that he also did a good job of reflecting and meditating about this series called Wonder - Seed of Life

Visually Fantastic and speaks Truth. My Science students (7th & 8th) have been able to digest these. (Especially in their media worlds which seem to have such a power over them that they are unaware of and will defend and are "offended" if told otherwise.) Perfect for them to absorb and are excited to see each one. They are writing points and then discussing them. They contain for us the fullness of our Faith within the scientific topics. Thank you. I was blessed to attend the WONDER Conference which was more of a gift than I expected. Peace! Super appreciate!

Every moment of one’s life is towards the perfection of his relationship with the Giver. Ideally the better version of the past, but may not often be so in the naked eye. It’s being perfected every time we love. The Alpha and the Omega of life- Love.
Since I was young, reading the bible alone by myself, I always and without doubt, took the 7 days of creation to be seven epochs or ages. God is outside of time. The Bible says one day to God is as a thousand years to man. And a thousand years to God is as yesterday gone and past. The seven days do for the most part follow the modern scientific view of evolutionary stages, first the plants, then the creatures of the sea and of the air, then the creeping things, then the animals and beasts of the land. The stage of dinosaurs are obviously one part of the beasts day of creation. Then finally man. Science today as well as common sence will say that mankind is the pinacle of evolution. This was God's plan. He holds the power to create, guide and evolve. It's clear the bible is for evolution with the history of man in genesis. Out of one couple came all nations tribes and tongues. Black, white Mexican, oriental, middle eastern. Thanks be to God

Amazing. It is so faith-strengthening. What a wonderful creator we have, Each new layer of knowledge that is revealed to us glorifies him.

Very well done, and many excellent points made so beautifully. I would add that, while it is true that the Genesis account fits very nicely with Darwin's proposal, making the account in Genesis fit "hand in glove" with a PARTICULAR, CURRENT version of a scientific theory may obscure the very point we are trying to make IF said theory some day significantly changes. (Science is self-correcting, after all, which means that it will always be correcting itself!) I think the overall message is not to rejoice that Scripture fits with our current scientific theories (which we take, bizarrely, to be somehow definitive -- until tomorrow at least when they change), but rather that the pursuits of truth through science and theology are symbiotic, not adversarial, and can and must deeply inform one another for each one to grow and mature properly.
Pope Benedict said it best (of course) in his spiritual testament: "Often it seems as if science - on the one hand, the natural sciences; on the other, historical research (especially the exegesis of the Holy Scriptures) - has irrefutable insights to offer that are contrary to the Catholic faith. I have witnessed from times long past the changes in natural science and have seen how apparent certainties against the faith vanished, proving themselves not to be science but philosophical interpretations only apparently belonging to science - just as, moreover, it is in dialogue with the natural sciences that faith has learned to understand the limits of the scope of its affirmations and thus its own specificity."

The concept of the clay of the earth as the origin of life is amazingly accurate. Clay is water, minerals and the basic chemical elements for organic life (Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon and nitrogen).
Being and life came into existence from clay (non being) and through natural evolution human beings came into existence to fulfill God’s design.
Look, if you change the meanings of words, we can make the Bible make sense.

Just like clay, the fact that the first word God said was let there be light is also very accurate given what we know about the creation of the universe, the Big Bang and quantum mechanics.
Try explaining protein chains, DNA, unicellular life, neurons, atoms and protons to a human 3000 years ago. It must be a story that leads to understand complex human realities.
Not really sure what’s your purpose of commenting a faith and reason video of it isn’t to bother other people. I’m guessing there’s some type of trauma, meaning or purpose behind it. That sense of purpose and individuality is God’s imprint in you even though you keep denying it.
If you are a rational animal and whatever thought is simply a chemical reaction of nature and nurture. Better keep your thoughts to yourself rather than bothering a fellow rational animal.

And, fyi, the first light was 240,000 to 300,000 years after the Big Bang. But I bet it wont take you more than 5 minutes to absorb that fact and rework your world view so that this fits. These episodes are so interesting and gets me really thinking but I think they are too short, especially this episode.
I agree that there are some aspects to Darwin’s theory that fits into Christianity “like a glove” but there are other aspects to the theory that definitely do not. I wish there was more discussion on that.

Charles Darwin was a Puritan. A Quaker. He attended Catholic Mass, more than once. That's why St. John Henry Newman wrote to Darwin. They were classmates studying common ground. Darwin was the scientific approach to Maslow, because he was a student of Maslow's. After that came Konrad Lorenz, who was a student of Maslow's.
John Henry Newman was the lawyer studying philosophical law, or Canon law. They both inspired each other. These are the stories that I have read in my Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree. And now that awe and wonder is in the Word on Fire Institute. Now I want to research some of the quotes and letters written by Darwin, Maslow and Lorenz.
In essence, then, Maslow, the Jewish person who became a believer in the resurrected Christ was the real hero, because he believed that there should be affordable housing without drowning out Nature, Natural resources, creatures or humanity.
I to once thought that the picture evolution tries to paint fits with creation. Or that it was possible for both to fit in the same picture. But this is a large error to make.

God made the universe from nothing. Evolution cannot account that nor can it explain it. It is an illusion the devil creates to turn us from faith. We must take God at his word. As it is written in the first verse I shared. You either take God at his word. Or you don’t. There is no partiality.

If everything happened naturally, where is there room for a supernatural god having anything to do with any of it?
The Book of Genesis started with "In the beginning." Beginning implies a start of time, but God doesn't create within time nor does God need time to create as we need time to process or manufacture. I believe "in the beginning" implies a purpose or intent, "In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep," That is from the very beginning of creation, God is God and all creation is made by God to have a share in his divine goodness. Hence it's never meant to be read as a natural history of creation.
St PJP2 said to consider the Biblical story as the why and adaptive evolution as the how of creation. Man, beast, plant all adapt to survive. We didn't come from a primordial pool of ooze and a single protein. So adaptive evolution and faith in creation work. Those who read darwin got it wrong in seeing adaptive evolution as protein to aquatic, to beast, to missing link, to man. What Darwin was describing, and St Augustine seemed to see was adaptive evolution. Which faith, science, and logic dictate.
Big Fan of Word on Fire and Bishop Barron. Real sad that this part of the series (though visually beautiful) weds beautiful art with a not so beautiful theory. Why are we still trying to incorporate a materialistic, naturalistic theory that is being rejected at the highest levels in peer reviewed scientific literature into the beauty and harmony of our Catholic faith? Darwinistic evolutionary theory and the philosophy wedded to it has been adopted by none other than the likes of Marx, Hitler and Sanger, to name a few. Should we not have some reservations before striving to inculturate it into Christ's Body the Church? Theistic Evolution has some serious problems, scientifically, philosophically and theologically. Let's proceed with due reverence and caution.

Extremely disappointed that this video endorsed evolutionary theory as the credibility it needed to view 6 days as being God’s days (hence millions of years) and not human 24 hour days.
What gives Darwin the credibility to elevate his theory at the pedestal under which we can understand the biblical Genesis apocryphal meaning?
Evolution is about as true as gravity, but how does a historical Adam and Eve fit without getting into serious mental gymnastics and theories?
So without trying to be too ignorant here..... are they saying that God's plan was indeed evolution? I thought they also show there is no link that we came from apes or fish??

Visually beautiful, though sadly misleading. So many have tried to photoshop Darwinism into some kind of wonderful, but as Daniel Dennett (a pro-Darwinist) says, evolution is a universal acid that eats through everything it touches. (I'm thinking macro (not micro) evolution here....from molecules to man, bacteria to Beethoven) Why give the impression that this theory is settled fact and is in harmony with our Catholic faith when so much credible opposition exists at the highest levels, offering a well reasoned, articulate stance and warns of its errors in both science, philosophy and theology. Let's proceed with charitable, reverent caution before swallowing this acidic mixture of ideas. For an articulate viewpoint, see those who signed the Dissent from Darwin list particularly Stephen Meyer and his youtube links and books on Theistic Evolution.

I think the video is saying that St. Augustine believed in the natural explanation of creation, but the limitation of scientific discovery of his time inclined him to not speculate over things unclear or not yet proven, which is fair for him as a bishop and theologian in the 4th-5th century.
I believe in the City of God, chap. XII, 10, Augustine is refuting Greek philosophers who thought that the human race has always been here since forever, only occasional catastrophic disasters would make humans restarted civilizations, but they couldn't provide evidence or texts to back their claim. Hence, Augustine is citing Scriptural authority to point out that the human race had a beginning that when calculated from Scripture to not even reach 6,000 years (that is, the human species had a definite beginning), comparing it with the Greeks' own account of history and of other civilizations around them to only a few thousand years, hence refuting the Greek philosophers who thought of an eternal existence of human race.
"Thus Apuleius says when he is describing our race, “Individually they are mortal, but collectively, and as a race, they are immortal." (City of God, chap. XII, 10)
"If it offends them that the time that has elapsed since the creation of man is so short, and his years so few according to our authorities, let them take this into consideration, *that nothing that has a limit is long, and that all the ages of time being finite, are very little, or indeed nothing at all, when compared to the interminable eternity.* *Consequently, if there had elapsed since the creation of man, I do not say five or six, but even sixty or six hundred thousand years,* or sixty times as many, or six hundred or six hundred thousand times as many, or this sum multiplied until it could no longer be expressed in numbers, the same question could still be put, Why was he not made before?
