Because those people probably never have to go through the day as children and miss lunch from their daycares or perhaps they have parents who actually care enough to advocate for them and they are not very grateful for those parents too.

I kinda understand that alot of mothers reactions against neglectful and abusive centers are valid because 1: that is a small child unable to defend themselves, 2: they often mistreat children on purpose.
So yeah if I ever have a kid I'll 100% make sure that they are treated well by the day care.

My parents took me out of regular daycare after the first three days because they would send us to sit in the corner for time out if we weren’t asleep during naptime. Instead my mom found this extremely nice elderly woman who would take care of a few kids as a time for extra money because she had retired her usual job. She was so kind and said she loved taking care of little kids because her daughter had grown up, and she missed having kids around. There was usually just 3-4 of us there at a time, but she would make us actual meals. Like we got spaghetti and stuff it was great.

Even then, some Montessori schools have issues. Not a lot of places are actually teaching true Montessori. There are other issues that get swept under the rug because they are “Montessori.” Little and big things that a daycare would be cited for in a second. For example, State can site a daycare for not having proper bathrooms ventilation, storage of cleaning supplies, placement of brooms, changing procedures ect. Montessori’s get away with that. Or even on a larger scale, my aunt works for a very reputable Montessori school. They were running their after care program out of ratio for years. A parent finally called state on them and they definitely had other citations.

So I had to document her (with permission of her parents and school admin) of her not eating her food. At the next meeting her parents told me I was not feeding her correctly and requested that I spoon feed her. Because that’s what she was comfortable with at home. This girl was in first grade why did she need to be spoon fed? Needless to say I refused and the parents transferred her to a new school after trying to sue me for ‘discrimination’ against their daughter. Spoilers they lost the lawsuit.

Story time: So I was in kindergarten and I got school lunch everyday. Once my account money would get low, my dad would add more. I guess he forgot to check it so when I went to go pay for my food, the lunch lady told me to tell my parent that I needed more money on my account because I was running low. Of course as a kindergartner, I forgot. I forgot for 3 more days. Then on the 4th day when I went to pay, they took my tray away and handed me a regular milk and a lunch bag. I went to my seat and opened the bag. Inside was a sandwich, with just cheese. I decided not to eat because it was so gross! I told my dad when I got home and he wasn’t happy. He told me it would never happen again and that he was so sorry! I told him it was okay and I started packing my lunch lol

I'm sorry a plain cheese sandwich grossed your little self out - food stuff can be a real existential nightmare! I was super lucky when I was in your position in kindergarten - my mum was a teacher at my school, so they'd skip over me and go straight to her if there was a problem (though we might have had 'tab' cards rather than 'accounts', it was a very particular school) then we moved back to Australia and it was down to lunch boxes or a paper bag with money and your lunch order written on it left with the canteen before school. It was... not the best system to keep kids from going hungry.

We can all admit that white privilege and class privilege (intrinsically connected but not always the same) apply to women too, but beyond that, the whole Karen thing is just old misogyny with a new label. Why isn't there a male equivalent, when white men's actions have been the basis of the vast majority of humanity's problems of the past several centuries? It's certainly not because the kind of people who use 'Karen' regularly and with relish are being respectful of the gender spectrum and see all presentations as equal, let's not kid ourselves. It's misogynist BS, feel free to call it out as just that when it feels appropriate. They got us chasing our tails, and we CBA anymore, right? This is old, stale and boring, and it's one of the reasons we're suffering so much and destroying our home. Misogyny hurts everyone, including the idiots who perpetrate it.

@@angelalovell5669 There IS a male version. It's called a "Kevin" and is pretty widely brought up any time there's a guy who acts in the typical "Karen" fashion, I.E., pitching a major fit about something that is not serious at all and demanding to see managers in order to extort something from them- like getting a meal comped even though there was nothing actually wrong with it, or a free coupon, or something of that nature. This is entirely different to people who call ANYONE who makes a fuss a Karen- like in this instance, where it's very much deserved and the label "Karen" is not applicable. Learn the difference, observe it, and call out people who use it wrongly. The ones that use it appropriately are doing nothing wrong other than poking fun at people who are obviously morally in the wrong and harrass people to get free stuff.

    • @angelalovell5669
      @angelalovell5669 ปีที่แล้ว

@@willothewisp2980 OR people could use the rest of their vast vocabularies to describe someone being arrogant, demanding, lacking self awareness or compassion, full of privilege and generally tone deaf. I haven't heard the term 'Kevin' used a single time in my life, certainly not over the past several years this has been ramping up. I'm glad you're aware of it, I'm glad people around you are using it, it at least acknowledges that men can be assholes too. But when it hasn't been used in the media and is barely acknowledged online, while Karen has been many and multiple times, I'm not going to cover for the underlying misogynist motivation that exists here.
Don't kid yourself - defending the occasional use of what is clearly a slur that applies to a specific group in society because those people under those circumstances were being objectionable is bullshit. We have words to describe this kind of behaviour that are in no way related to gender, since this behaviour has always existed. Making it gendered is a step backwards, it's obvious misogyny (if you don't see this, you need to engage with some feminist theory to broaden your understanding) and nothing anyone should be taking time to defend. Slurs are never REQUIRED, they exist to make the person using them feel superior. And if you need to make yourself feel superior to someone you think is outwardly objectionable, then there's something wrong - that should be self evident, if they're so bad. You may be justified in calling out bad behaviour, but associating it with gender over personality is pathetic and I think you're wasting your time defending this concept.

One time when I was a kid, me and my little brother (he was just learning to walk) was in daycare. I remember liking the place a lot.
One day, he somehow managed to walk *outside* the front of the daycare. Through two instant lock, glass doors, and the daycare was located right next to a VERY BUSY STREET. The ONLY reason he didn't get far was because I saw him outside and told the staff, to which they got him back in quickly. He was barefoot, had no pants just a diaper and blue shirt.
Then they yelled at ME (who is probably around 7 or 8 at the time) for letting him get out. that I should have been watching him.
I remember my whole day being ruined, I was scared they called my mom and that I was going to be in HUGE trouble. I was quiet the whole way home, then when we got into our house driveway I burst into tears and told my mom what happened.
She has told me this story a lot, but after dropping us home with a babysitter she went right back to that daycare. She didn't find the staff that was there unfortunately, but she did get to the manager. (Mind you, she's 5ft something short, but was a professional boxer for YEARS). She picked up the grown man by his collar and told him, scarily quiet, that she wanted her money back. She said the look on his face was priceless, and she would have laughed if she wasn't so pissed. Safe to say, she got her money back and we never went back there again.
It's a funny story now. But also, moms can be terrifying and daycares can be incompetent

But I was a very picky kid. I didn’t want to try things. Especially things I knew I didn’t like. They would make me take three big bites. I would just cry to myself and wait until lunch was over a throw my plate away. This one daycare teacher I had would literally watch me eat!!! And this one day we had crackers and some fruit. Notify the parents when the kid doesn't eat lunch? NOTIFY THE PARENTS? 😂 sorry but even though I am aware that there are awful people that work in daycare I realize that everybody is forgetting how HORRIBLE parents can be these days.
I actually study to be working in this field later and I have experienced multiple times that daycares tried a few times within an hour to notify the parents about their kids being sick or injured and it would go to voicemail.
2 hours later the parents would pick up the kids and get furious that the daycare didn't call them under a phone number that the parents NEVER gave the daycare.
Btw if the kid talked like that I would know who would get lunch but harsh words.
That's btw the next issue: do you know how many kids tell their parents wild stories because a daycare employee told them "no, you can't hit the other kids!" ? Or because they were told that they should at least TRY the side salad that came with the lunch?
Don't try to make it look like daycares are all bad and the employees are monsters. Because I experience it more and more that it's the kids that are neglected at home in all kinds of ways. If I hear one more kid in daycare threaten another kid like "Do that again and I will hit you with a metal bar until you d!e" I will give the parents a talk they won't like.
But agreed. No daycare should "forget" to give lunch to a child that was signed up for lunch
