It seems alright for light loads but under heavy loads (30kg+) there may be issues, as it’s not fixed into the frame - instead could drop out due to gravity and going over any bumps. With your experience what would you think? Want to make sure it’s safe.
Totally understand the concern. We've been mounting racks this way since 1996 and have never run into this. Just last week I wend on a bikepacking trip with an older QR bike and even rode through some rugged rock gardens on MTB trails without issue.

This is helpful but I’m not sure whether the springs on the QR are inside or outside the rack
