    tomori's characterization is one of my favourite parts bc it's so true to what being a teenage girl with ASD is like. her immediate assumption that when something goes wrong it's her fault, her wondering if she's even "allowed" to be in a band or do the things other people do, her desire to be human bc she feels like she isn't, the way she struggles to communicate her feelings unless it's through writing them down, and the way she always wants to share the things she's interested in and gets depressed when it seems like someone's rejecting them. all these things are aspects of ASD that i've dealt with before and that i didn't know how to explain or express for years, so seeing tomori find a way to express her feelings through music really got me.

      Tomori's characterization is absolutely what sold me on MyGo. Obviously everything else about the anime was really good but the fact that I was able to relate to her quite a bit gave it so many extra points.

    As much as I like My Go!!!!!, I'm quite shocked that a lot of people took Bandori only being "Kira Kira Doki Doki" very seriously.
    Bandori has always have serious and depressing moments, not 25:00 Nightchord depressing, but still depressing enough. Even in the first season of Bandori has it's rough moments, mainly Kasumi losing her voice due to pure pressure and Saya's conflict about hindering her family due to being too busy playing for Popipa.
    Even in game there has been serious moments. Hina and Sayo's strained relationship, Pastel Pallettes going through the reality of the Entertainment Industry, Chisato growing up too soon due to being a child actor, Yukina wanting to participate in the Future World Fes. because she felt her father was abandoned by the Music Industry, Hagumi's horrible parents, Ran's struggles of maintaining her relationships with the Afterglow members, etc.
    Bandori has a lot of these serious and depressing moments even before My Go!!!!!.
    It's not that I hate people who don't understand it, I just want to make it clear Bandori has always been like this.
    Sorry for the long comment, but I'm really like Bandori and want to clear a few misconceptions.

      I think the people who find Bandori to be just cutesy all the time must just be very casual fans, which is fine, but it's so weird to make that claim about the series if you only somewhat pay attention to the story.
      I mean the game doesn't help much with this since it throws you into Season 3 upon starting it, but if you go back and play through Season 1's band stories they set the tone of the franchise really well, especially Popipa's Part 0 story. Watching Kasumi, who generally presents herself as an unstoppable force of pure positivity, finally break down completely exasperated and upset at how worthless she feels in the band, actually really got to me. It reminded me a lot of K-On's approach to character drama, where it isn't soul crushingly depressing, but a lot more nuanced and realistic.
      You pointed out Niigo from ProSeka, and tbh most of the depressing stuff in their main stories never landed with me, it really felt like they tried really hard to make it depressing, and in turn it felt like they tried too hard. I haven't had a friend be so emotionally detached that they started making their own noise-core music and posting it on SoundCloud secretly like Mafu, but I've seen many, *many* people let themselves get crushed by their own emotions reaching a boiling point like Kasumi

      i suppose compared to enstars, bandori’s “depressing” themes are rather realistic and humanely (except hagumi’s abusive mother, we are not excusing that) but i’ll take it. even though i would love it more if bandori goes crazy with darker themes just like enstars. but thats just my opinion ofc.

      after a while people tend to forget the negative things and remember the positive things, unless the negatives are something traumatizing of course.
      there were hardships in the popipa bang dream but it showed a dynamic that is less realistic to real bands where irl its usually a lot of drama , as in it showed the best possible scenario, i guess the outlaws of that would be characters like Sayo and Yukina which are very popular, i guess a lot of people are quite of "tired" of the usual formula, when things "magically" go right it can give you that "i don't know if i believe this" or "too good to be true if this happened in real life" feeling.
      I hope that they go crazy with the darker themes, a change of pace is appreciated to be honest.

    • @Blue-Code
      @Blue-Code 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@huevonesunltd yes band members do disagree and fight with one another, but not all bands fight to a toxic extent like Buddy Rich with his band members, the bands in Bandori had 1-2 years of experience where they fought, learn and grow from one another.
      My Go!!!!! on the other hand, only started recently, 4 of it's 5 members are not mentally well (3 of which experienced a band break-up) so it's understandable thier fight is the most dramatic out of all of the bands in Bandori so far (Unless Ave Musica beats it with a possible Sakiko meltdown).
      And while I am open to Bandori diving into darker themes, I'm sacred that it won't deliver in it's execution.

    Soyo is just such a great and interesting character to me. At first, as you also said I harbored genuine hatred for her because she was obviously two-faced with so many ulterior motives. I really hate these kinds of person even in real life, mostly because I also have experiences dealing with it. But, when she eventually revealed her true colors, I was... in love with her. She rocketed towards literally being my favourite Bang Dream character ever. Her unhinged behaviour and unstable personality really appealed to me in a way that has never happened to me before. Now I'm stuck here waiting for the Ave Mujica anime because I miss seeing her so damn much

  • @aini6570
    @aini6570 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    i actually love how contrast mygo and ave mujica is so far, in terms of their relationships, dynamic and character depth. mygo feels very real and humanely, simply bcs everyone has their own problems that are yet to be solved, but tries to find other ways to simply “distract” or pushed the problems back down until they were all being able to trust and rely on each other (not fully but almost there) despite the differences in their coping and defense mechanism.
    ave mujica on the other hand (so far) feels very transactional. with sakiko forming the band with her childhood best friend as the lead (she was most likely using uika here lol) as well as mutsumi. my obvious guess for umiri is probably bcs shes always willing to be the support of a serious band (and left immediately when theres an ongoing inner conflict within the band) and nyamu, who is obviously a clout-chaser lol. all the avemuji members so far represents sakiko’s dolls, as she controls and “loved” them despite how fragile their relationship is.

    My theory on why soyo is so attached to sakiko is bc in one of the eps it shows soyos mom who is quite energetic like a teen but is still very work focused and is rarely home, soyo probably saw her mother in sakiko and thats why she had such an attachment to her (ofc im talking abt sakiko before her personality change)

    • @aini6570
      @aini6570 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      i like to believe soyo fell in love with sakiko’s initial idealism of crychic of being their “destiny”. she took it to heart as she believed crychic is where she belongs, where she was happy for once (considering that soyo has divorced parents, she probably felt lonely. and her mom also seems to rely on her to comfort her) and holds it until mygo happened (which wasnt even in her plan).

    • @ryuuraga1619
      @ryuuraga1619 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My interpretation of Soyo and Sakiko's relationship is quite like an act of imitation. From the backstory, it feels like Soyo is a blank slate, no idea of what or who she really is. Trying to adapt from what decision her mother have, from what peers expected her to be and from what the students from her school acts. Until she met Sakiko, the one that gave her the identity of 'bass of Crychic'. She sees Sakiko as an ideal person: someone with a goal and easily brings people along with her to achieve that goal and still brings happiness to her and everyone around her. Until that image of Sakiko fell in front of her. She sees Crychic as a way to bring that ideal back. Yet Sakiko straight up told her to stop holding on to the past: Crychic, and gave her the words she desperately avoided all her life. Even after all of that, she still acted like Sakiko: avoiding the band she created, trying to disband it, and even being mean to people that cared to her as a friend. She reflected Sakiko in more ways, however the difference is Tomori can patch Soyo's pain but can't fix Saki's broken state.

    Sanzigen quite literally has no growth ceiling. Every single time they release something (Film Live 2, 5th anni, Poppin Dream, even D4DJ) I keep thinking they can't get better but they DO. The micro-expressions and subtle detail in the character models and animation are top tier. Like even in the last episode of mygo they popped off with Anon for no reason lmao.
    anyway, great video. bandori's my favorite piece of media, so i'm glad Mygo did so damn well and it's getting videos like this out.
    and you're right, the POV episode blew me away and is basically top 3 episodes overall.
    (for the record, mygo's spiciness in terms of drama is what the game was like in the first year's story, so yea lmao)

    I guess you might know this already but Tomori is supposed to be ASD neuro-divergent. She is by far the best characterization of such a character in anime. Compare her to Bochi who is similar but who is played for cheap laughs mostly.
    Band Dream Its MyGo is a very very good show and its such shame it was written off by many anime fans and reviewers.
    Btw Im split between Anon and Tomori as my favourite characters.

    • @SableSymphony
      @SableSymphony  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I definitely wanted to talk about that aspect of Tomori but it's kind of a slippery slope when you don't have 100% of the facts straight. I was super impressed with how the writers handled her though and I wish more media in general handled characters with mental issues as gracefully as MyGo did with Tomori. Often times it just comes off as forced or "this characters has this issue because the writers said so" which diminishes the point of the character. MyGo in general needs to be more in the spotlight because of how well everything was handled and I hope that Bang Dream continues to improve in this way.

    my theory for sakikos sudden switch up is that she genuinely did want to be in crychic and loved crychic at first, but she probably saw hate comments after their live that made her feel extremely heartbroken and deep emotions, so she decided to disband crychic and form a more professional band so she would never have to feel how she felt when she read the hate comments for crychic. if she formed a perfect band she never has to deal with any hate
    shes probably a perfectionist and didnt want to interact with any crychic member because she would remember that horrible memory she never wanted to hear or see again

    • @SableSymphony
      @SableSymphony  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is something I've thought about as well and I can very well see that being the actual reason. As a musician, I can confirm that perfectionism is just as much of a blessing as it is a curse and can heavily impact your emotions as well as your judgement.

    • @icarusthorn9739

      We've gotta look at every single line of dialogue in the last episode's Play before the performance. The whole thing of discarded dolls and humanity, and the "most painful death" is to be "forgotten". Because I do think Saki truly loved crychic, even more to the end. She didn't disband them. She quit. Crychic ended because everyone else couldn't keep it up. She wants to leave all of that behind to probably protect them. (Or she's just truly indifferent, because holy that Soyo episode was brutal lmao). The thing she saw must have to do with her family losing their wealth or "prestige/nobility".
      She most likely wants to get back her life with sheer fame and popularity using music as a tool. She freaking booked Roselia's number 1 goal as her debut venue. (Future world fes is in this exact location) (yes, it's important to know the rest of bandori lore it's a multimedia project!!). And the whole thing of everyone other than Saki wearing chokers, and their mask lacing representing different flowers, and "will you give me the rest of your life". THERE'S SOME INSANE STUFF HAPPENING HERE. (i got all that info from some dudes on twitter lol, they're geniuses).

    Great video, bro! I loved this anime, it's the best from Bandori so far (I expect it to get even better when/if the Ave Mujica anime drops) in my opinion as well. I also thought Anon was very annoying for most part of the anime, but when her backstory was shown she immeadiately became my favorite character. She's someone I can relate to in a way. She's always running away, scared of failing, scared of disappointing others, yes, she is selfish, but everyone in MyGo is. Soyo wanted to dispose of Anon and Raana, Anon wanted all attention focused on her, Taki only cared about her friendship with Tomori, Raana only wanted to spend time with them for as long as they remained interesting for and Tomori (even though we can excuse her for being neuro-divergent) only wanted to be in a band no matter what others were feeling. Of course they all grow out of this (not sure about Raana lol) by the end of the series, but we can't simply deny they were all selfish in their own way. Anyway, back to Anon being my favorite. She's not the only problematic/selfish character I like in anime, most of the characters that end up being my favorites are either selfish or have done bad things in the past. They become my favorites only if they have some sort of redemption, if I like that redemption and if I can kinda relate to them in a way, so Anon being my favorite didn't really surprise me. Soyo didn't become my favorite because she pissed me off so much I think it'll take me a while to really like her. I hope that when MyGo gets introduced into the game her stories with the others and with her bandmates captivate me enough for me to like her (like what happened with Sayo, whereas I began the game hating her and now she's my favorite Bandori character).
    I think that's all I wanted to say! Sorry for the very long comment, as an apology you get my subscription lol 💜

    My favorite character is definitely Raana! She came to bless us with her goofball presence when at least I was a bit suffocated by all the drama going on all the time. I loved the series, all of the characters were so well written and I still hold a grudge for Soyo XD (I'm trying to like her, but it will take some time). I related a lot with both Tomori and Anon on different scenes and I came to love them even though at first I wasn't fond of them. With Taki, I liked her from the start and it stayed the same for the entire season, I loved how she really had personality and genuinely cared for and wanted Tomori to be happy. More about my favorite character Raana, she's a lot like me, going to places knowing she gets good food or doing whatever she feels like doing right at the moment is so me XD It's also cute since she reminds me a lot of cats (Taki DOES indeed call her "stray cat" in the series) and cats are my favorite pets. I also adore her white shorter (wolfcut?) hair and different colored eyes

    Last October 12 and 13 at Ayala Malls TriNoma in Manila Philippines for the Bushiroad EXPO 2024, I was fortunate to meet one of the members of the real-life Japanese all-female rock band called MyGO!!!!! the band's rhythm guitarist and the seiyuu for Chihaya Anon from BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! the lovely Tateishi Rin-chan in the autograph sessions at the event and the crazy part is the autograph sessions are limited to 30 people and are won via lottery kinda of like a gacha that you have to get a number from 1- 30, the fact that I've got a slot for both days is just pure luck, and it still feel so surreal that I didn't just beat the odds but I also managed to meet her in person both days and I swear I just can't explain how beautiful and radiant she is and probably one of the nicest people I've ever met, she's so nice, friendly, and she really is such a sweetheart and I swear once I finally moved to Japan, MyGO!!!!! will be one of those bands that I will going to watch perform live.

    As for someone who's also a musician and loves Japanese Music, Anime, and Japanese Culture I also watched other Music Franchises like Macross, Beck The Mongolian Chop Squad, Detroit Metal City, K-On!, Love Live, and even Bocchi the Rock. But out of all those series I mentioned the series that I fell in love with is BanG Dream! since they have real-life bands and out of the 10 bands in the franchise 6 of them have real-life bands they are Poppin'Party, Roselia, RAISE A SUILEN, Morfonica, MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica. I first came to know about BanG Dream! way back in 2017 and around that time I hadn't watched the initial airing during January of that year since I was touring and doing out-of-town gigs so I only watched it around mid to late 2017 and BanG Dream! actually came at the point in my life when I wanted to quit music altogether but this franchise is actually what reignites my love for music and what made me rediscover my love and passion for Japanese Culture and made me learn Japanese. Anyway for those who don’t know me let me introduce myself, I’m Jeffry Manlutac I’m a musician from the Philippines and also served as a lead singer for the 90’s Filipino Rock Band called White Lies the band that sang the iconic Rock Ballads Alaala Mo and First Love Never Dies. I served as the band’s lead singer from 2013-2014. Sure landing a gig as the lead singer of the band you admired when you’re just a kid is such a dream come true. But by the time I became their lead singer, the band was only down to two original members. Its guitarist and main songwriter also planning to leave the band not to mention they already passed their prime and the music scene here in the Philippines drastically changed, the music business is not about the music anymore cause just like in the West and even K-Pop where talent doesn’t matter anymore the music scene was plagued by talentless autotune and plastic surgery actors, actresses and models and not to mention when you become a replacement member of a legacy band it’s inevitable that you will be compared to the one you replaced I was like being pressed in both directions so I decided to quit and just like Tomori I also blamed myself I was like maybe I’m not good enough and wasn’t able to help them to compete in the current music scene and made a comeback. sure I’m a bit sad that I have to leave but I guess I made the right decision and predicted that the music scene here would decline so I have no regrets, at least we’re on good terms and I’m happy to be a part of that legacy, And I'm definitely not given up yet to that dream of becoming a successful artist. My ultimate dream is to become a successful Anisong Singer in Japan and since I can't marry 2D and fictional characters and since I'm into seiyuus, I would love to marry one. So yeah that's my ultimate dream.

    I didn't watch this series, which I kinda regret, but I've been following this franchise for a few years now, and while it's inspired me to start creating very similar stories to everything I've seen in the game, it literally occurred to me just now that Tomori actually has autism considering that she's sensitive and actually stutters when she talks, and also lacks making eye contact. As someone with ASD 1, it brightens me to know the fact that Bushiroad actually took the liberty of creating a Bang Dream character with a disability. More fictional characters like that need to be created. It got me thinking that Mashiro from Morfonica is somewhat like Tomori, but not necessarily with ASD-like traits. Mashiro is simply shy and sensitive, especially in the game event story Blossoming Symphony. But if it's true that Tomori has autism, I can't help but give Bushiroad huge credit for that as someone who also has ASD, or Asperger's to be precise.

    • @SableSymphony
      @SableSymphony  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's never been confirmed or denied that Tomori has autism but I think it's fair to assume that she does indeed have it. Considering how well she's written, it's kinda hard to believe that Bushiroad wasn't going for that when creating her character. I love the fact that some actual TLC was put into making her unlike other shows (not necessarily anime) just make a character and say that have this or that. Basically just shoehorning an underrepresented minority into the cast with no explanation or character building.

But MyGO!!!!! it's great to watch even if you never knew anything about Bang Dream. As a musician I first started watching it just because the guitars, amps and pedals are so well drawn! thats always my favorite part: watching the amps, the hands, the pedals... what a treat for a musician! Then the story really caught me: At first I hated Anon for being so stupid and shallow but she ended up being my favorite character. Taki was fun to watch always since she fulfilled the tsundere role. Tomori really pisses me off since she can't do anything without being weird. Soyo was the best plot twist ever; i really never suspected anything. The last 3 episodes and how we got to see the birth of Ave Mujica was very impressive, the very end of the last episode was nutz!!!!!! Poor Saki, I bet that what she saw on her celphone has nothing to do with the CryCHIC performance and I hope we get a nice resolution to her character and the drive for her actions soon, her character design is by far my favoorite one, she looks like MIKU

    There is another anime/game that I LOVE and its d4dj you might have seen it because its the same company as bang dream and love live but d4dj has a first season and a one movie episode which is about two bands collabing and also a second season which is called an all mix because it i cludes all the bands

    7:29 Actually, they never did say that. They said two things. They said *"SCREW IT* and *FRICK IT* we are having full songs because Haruhikage is a bop and we needed something interesting to move our story forward." I do find it interesting how you never mentioned how Kasumi of Poppin'Party literally gave MyGO!!!!! their name and the various other BanG Dream cameos as well. But then again, you did say you followed the game since the beginning and thought the first season of the anime was just okay.

    I was very excited a while back when I first found your channel and saw you also loved Tear Drops.
    I like Louder as well, and I love Raise A Suilen's music, the aesthetic and connections of the girls in Afterglow, and I think my favorite band is tied between those two and especially Hello Happy World. The music is fun, I love the characters and their relationships and designs.
    Off topic a bit, but there's plenty of games like Ace Attorney & Danganronpa that have first person povs!
    I might add some more later if I think of any and have the time.

    you can try watching Flip Flappers it has the same writer as Mygo atleast for the first half. Although it does not exactly have a full first person episode it does an excellent job at putting you in the protagonist POV and it all culminate in episode 7 where they use a unique technique to let you see the world through her eyes(I wont say how they do it but its not from a first person POV). The show kind of fumbled from episode 8 onward but 1-7 is excellent and prob one of my fav anime for character study.

    This man spits STRAIGHT FACTS and literally shares every single one of my opinions on Bandori as a whole, not even kidding right now. I’d like to point out that I think Sakiko quit the band because she saw a hate comment about herself and started believing the others to be true (which is why she yelled at Tomori in the first episode for being the one who needed the most work, referring to the comment that said “The singer was such a tryhard.”). About Tomori, she is literally me, no questions asked. She’s also my new favorite anime character, PERIOD. And also regarding the animation of It’s MyGO!!!!!, I feel like the facial expressions are what got me. Especially when they were playing Utakotoba for the first time and everyone was crying and aaaaaagahagsjgfkwhej that was such a good moment!!!! As much as I freaking hate Soyo and would be fine watching her get hit by a train, I even felt for her a bit in that moment. Definitely one of my favorite scenes. Anyway sorry for the rant I’m so obsessed with this anime rn and you are a legend for making this video

    • @SableSymphony

      No worries about the rant! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and took some time to write me a comment.
      Your theory on Sakiko does make a lot of sense and is pretty similar to my own theory. I guess I never realized that the pieces are essentially given to us but I was so obsessed with the air of mystery that I didn't really put 2 and 2 together. Regardless, I'm still excited for the Ave Mujica anime!

      Saki left because her family is broke and sees bands as a means of making money. That's why she never told anyone as it was easier for her to cut lose and follow her plan for a band she can control and profit from. I dont like Saki much, whatever her circumstances, she is a very cold girl.

    • @tix2164
      @tix2164 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neile2001 I’m not sure about all that, I mean if she were poor her family would have never been able to afford going able to Tsukinomori Girls' Academy before, but it is revealed that her dad is a heavy drinker. I think the reason why she left CRYCHIC is because of the thing that was on her phone, and since they were all reading the comments on their show I think the hate comment thing makes most sense.

    Quite sad that an anime could be the best in the season but still not being that popular or talked about while a bunch of trash get viral.
    Its my go is so different and real, the original bang dream is good too but its more light hearted making like seemingly people have no problems with each other.
    Honestly i would go as far as saying that people who don't like its my go straight up have garbage taste, if they don't like it, that's fine, i am not talking about them, but the people who hate it and say its bad , these guys have garbage taste.
    Either that or the standards are so low i am easily impressed then.

    I'm Gonna Be Honest, I Have Never Watched The Anime Series If Bandori... I've Always Played The Gane For Several Years, Have A Deep Admiration For Yukina And Main Roselia, But... I've Never Watched The Anime. It's Mainly Because I'm More Into The Songs, And Not Much Of The Lore. I've Only Read Bits And Pieces Of The Story In-Game And Have Watched Garupa Pico, But That's About It. Now, As Someone Who Doesn't Know Much Lore, I Judge Bands Based On Their Songs. Their Aesthetic... Is Similar To Morfonica, Yet It Has A Little Bit Of Rock Mixed Into It. It's Like A Mix Of Soft And Rock. But... Their Songs... I'm Gonna Be Honest, And I Apologize To The MyGo Fans, But... THEIR SONGS SUCK. It's Maybe Because I've Only Heard The 3 Songs Released In The EN Server And Not Much But... Yeah. So When I Heard Their Songs, I Initially Had A Bad Impression Of MyGo. I Mean, I Think It's Because I Mainly Like Roselia And RAS Songs, Because It's What I Like... But Other Bands Also Have Really Good Songs Sometimes. So I'll Just Wait And See, For What MyGo Has To Offer.

    I disliked it for exactly the reason that they made it about drama and not music. I found the first 7 or 8 episodes painfully boring and way too much of the 'drama' felt dumb and forced. RAS was handled better, it made me hate Chu2 for a period but with MyGo it was just like bro, who are these people and why are they a band? They all hate each other and have no chemistry at all.
