this deck is super sweet!
this deck is super sweet!
this deck is super sweet!
(triple sweet, ya know, for flavor)
I've seen this deck every where and so much I'm purely not impressed.
TheMagicManSam I
Instablaster.
The Triplets were my first ever commander build and it's still one of my favourite decks. You have a very interesting deck that's similar to my first build. If anyone else is interested in this build I would suggest a "Rite of Replication" simply because of the amount of creatures we can copy out that will give us not only synergy, but keep our annoying creatures on the board for fodder, ETB effects, or creatures like ethersworn canonist to 5 extra lives (also works with Phyrexian Metamorph and Sphinx of the Steel Wind!). For life gain I would totally recommend "Filigree Angel", strictly late game, it gains you a lot of life; one game I had Mycosynth Lattice, dropped the angel, and then used Rite of Replication to gain over 100 life in half a turn. Either way the professor is spot on in explaining that there isn't really an archetype around this deck that's set in stone. One last thing I just HAVE to mention is just how scared players are of this commander, use this to your advantage and have your opponents counter your commander and use up valuable resources.
Nightveil Specter is another nifty pick for triplets, you get to play even more of your opponents cards.
just finished playing fnm with this deck build. took me out of my comfort zone from my normal mono red and black and white decks and I have to say I was enjoying myself immensely. it's very easy to pilot. win or lose it brings a lot of conversation to the table and it was a real treat to play. thanks for posting this edh deck on TH-cam!
Yes! I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm always so lucky with the professor's choices of deck coverage!
Neat little bonus, you can play lands from the chosen opponent's hand as well. So if your opponent happens to be holding a sweet utility land that you need feel free to grab it for yourself.
I would also suggest people who like this deck to look into Paradox Haze. It gives you two upkeeps, so you get to choose two opponents with Sen Triplets and also double up on any other sweet upkeep triggers you have. Or you can always throw it on an opponent who's already dealing with harmful upkeep triggers.
About 2 weeks or so I was searching on the web for ideas how to make a Sen Triplets EDH Deck. With in the 6th result on that Google image search is this very video.
I been watching a number of your videos, you got me hooked and I subscribed. I honestly didn't know double sleeving was a thing despite I been playing on and off since the late 90s.
Great vid. I love the voice alteration for the riddle beginning and ominous ending. A+ for your efforts, sir.
great video, Professor, very informative and well produced
man this intro is dope!
My first real commander deck! Thank you for having this video out, as it allows me to develop worthwhile priorities in my own Spikey way.
I was really happy to see this video. I have a Sen Triplets commander deck that I really enjoy. Mine takes a pretty different approach, it goes all in on playing my opponents' decks. There were several cards in this video that I hadn't considered which would be pretty awesome in it.
So my group got sick of me having all the "money" cards when we used to play Commander religiously! They claimed that the "money" cards are what always caused me to win, most of the time when I'd win I would instead just declare that I would have won then let them finish the game without me. So that brings me to my favorite Commander... Sen Trips! Why her? Well because I decided if I wasn't allowed to win with my cards... I'd use all the players cards! So she was my commander and the rest of the deck was nothing but Clone and Recursion! Every game was different for me and when I would win, it was with their cards or copy of their cards! That is just my view on a Sen deck but that is just because I love playing everyone else's cards >=D
i am potentially interested in this deck ( if u still have it) whats the deck list?
Blue theft is so nasty, yet so enjoyable.
Great deck review, and I love your approach on prioritizing having fun over winning.
Sen Triplets was one of my first EDH decks, and is still one of my most powerful. Thanks for the overview, there were a couple of cards you mentioned that I'll be running in my deck from now on, though my Sen Triplets runs more enchantments than artifacts, so the artifact synergy is out. But that's one of the things I love about Sen Triplets. You can build her pretty much any way you want.
consecrated sphinx isnt an artifact creature
+egyptcraze **pushes up glasses**
+egyptcraze
Was gonna post the same think lawel
+egyptcraze I wish I had one.. It's so expensive. >_< Wait, it's only 11$?! I thought it was 20-30$... Brb, buying one.
+egyptcraze I think he meant that it's the perfect thing to tutor for, to get that card engine going. Though, it gets a lot of hate, so in my opinion it's better to use thopter spy network + sharding sphinx + skull clamp to get card draw, because that sphinx will get hated off of the board sooner than you can say "gesundheit", in most games.
Sheriff K reprinted in Invent Superiority
Thank you for making this! I've been wanting to make this commander for a long time I just never knew which cards I could possibly put in.
Triplets has been my go to commander for a while I tend to run more heavily in black for removal but I was super excited to see my same early game stall strats pop up in this analysis too
I love these commander deck techs Professor! I have never heard of some of these fantastic cards.
Well, I think I have to play White now. I already play Dimir, but this is making me super psyched.
I've actually watched this video 4 times, through, just to hear that beginning bit and to see how cool this deck is. Carry on doing what you're doing :D
I'm making this deck now. When I reveal it to my playground i'm going to introduce it with the opening from this video! Brilliant!
Is it still actual?
+Tolarian Community College
I really like this deck setup.
One alternative I'm thinking of is subbing something for a Storage Matrix. Since a majority of the deck is artifacts, that nulls most of any drawback from Storage Matrix since all your doing is untapping your lands with it as Unwinding Clock handles untapping your artifact creatures and artifacts.
Meanwhile, your opponents have to choose between untapping mana, untapping creatures, or untapping artifacts. On a curve of a three mana Storage Matrix to a four mana Unwinding, that's a massive hit to the enemies tempo.
Intro was seriously awesome!
Ethan Pinar indeed!
Absolutely, gave me goosebumps!
This shaking voice: just brilliant! Liked the video :)
super cool commander to cover. great video Prof!
I wona take a moment and point at the amazing intros in each video !
Far better than most EDH deck tecks! Nice one professor!
I think Sharding Sphinx and Scourglass are absolute must-haves in a deck like this. Sharding Sphinx + Thopter Spy Network is just pure bananas.
This deck looks super fun! Tbh never played commander but my friends are wanting to start and I think this deck looks super fun. I love control decks and I really like the idea of winning with your opponents cards
Ooh, I just traded for a Sen Triplets yesterday evening, with the plan of making an EDH deck for it - this will really help me!
I love how he does that robotic voice at the beginning of his videos
I love this deck!!!! I wish I had the money to play it
Great video. I am building my first commander deck and I love esper. So for me a genius it has to be Sen Triplets. You showed me some great cards and inspired me when my list is finished ill post it and you can hopefully critique it
well, since I have both sen triplets AND celestial dawn, now I HAVE to make this deck.
+wanderingdude777
then think about 'temple bell + mind over matter' combo, adding any cards that will go back into the deck when going into the graveyard.
Thought it was worth noting that it seems like you mention Consecrated Sphinx to be an artifact creature, which it is not :P
I have to admit, I love the way these videos are structured, plus videos on EDH/Commander are always awesome to see :D
Oh my god, finally a video about THE constructed deck i have been tinkering on since the release of those cards. I was about i don't know 8 when i started cracking the first packs from this expansion.
Is anyone interested in seeing my version of this Deck? I've been waiting for this moment to happen my entire life.
I own about half of the important cards he mentions but i also have a ton of other removal. Furthermore i don't run any non-artifact-creatures except for one: vedalken engineer. In my eyes the professor is missing some incredible cards such as Sharding Sphinx, Cranial Plating and Aether Vial
Love your commander decks. Please do more!
Great! Nice work! Love the intro and the ending! I like the commander! Greetings from Germany! :D
that enchantment tho! celestial daaaaawn
i'm so happy right now :D
I know this is an old video, and you get many comments daily, but thanks for providing such great content Professor!
with the new rules update this just got better!!
trying it out soon
My favorite commander :) so easy to make crazy plays with this one
Oh, Sen Triplets...good times. From my experience: Paradox Haze is a super cool card in multiplayer, as it allows you to double your options and lock down two players during your turn. Also, I've tried running Zur's Weirding, and...don't. Just don't.
Why not Zur’s Wierding?
@@Kakuz98 Whoa, talk about necro-posting! Well, Zur'sWeirding is always a feel-bad card that usually leads to stalled games, but with the Triplets it's even more egregious because you get to pick and choose which cards your opponents can have on the basis on what YOU will be able to play out of their hands.
Amazing tech, I love this commander's openness to any esper-based theme, while at the same time encouraging a delightful political setting. It's good stuff, and you've made it work so well.
...
Also I know it's likely supposed to be the Sen Triplets, but I think the answer to the riddle could feasibly be The Sun. *"What controls without touching?"* the sun influences with heat. *"What bends by breaking?"* The sun melts and bends substances, thereby breaking whatever structure they made up. *"What traverses great distances without moving an inch?"* The sun makes its journey across the sky without actually... Moving. *"What gives by simply taking?"* The sun burns energy without thought and, by sheer happenstance, life came to be because of it.
That deck looks SO fun!!!
i love that intro! kudos to you TCC!!!!
this video help out alot building my esper control edh deck. ++celestial dawn !!
this is my favorite commander ever!
OH MY GOD THIS IS HOW YOU PLAY BREYA!!!! *steals list and runs*
Great video once again professor!
If I weren't already subscribed to you, I would have subscribed to you as soon as I saw that introduction.
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury thanks you for bringing an artifact commander to everyone's attention. ;D
Hey professor, I just invested into this deck as a new EDH for myself and I am proud to say it's super fun and enjoyable. A+ Indeed.
Time to revisit Professor.
Hope to see more commander videos soon :D
What would a budget version of this deck be? And how much would THIS deck cost? +Tolarian Community College
+james frazier 3 color decks are already significantly worse when made budget, but artifact and control strategies are also often fairly expensive in addition to being 3 colors. This deck is not easy to make cheaply.
+Fernando Fabulous Except when green but otherwise I agree though it is still possible.
+james frazier A quick pricing check of the decklist in the video description on Deckbox puts the price of this deck around $300.
+Tuxedoian ordering all the cards from the cheapest possible sets is exactly $293
+james frazier Well if you REALLY want to run a cheap Esper EDH deck it would mainly filled with Basic lands, Little to no good Tri-lands,shocklands,haveland,pain land etc
professor, could we be expecting any commander guides on any colorless commanders like the eldrazi titans or Karn in the near future? its something i really wish to see from an allstar like you sir!
Couldn't decide on stax or artifacts for Sen Triplets so I built both!
Ha, at the first part I was like "no chromatic lantern?" Almost commented, glad I waited its in there. Nice deck
This is only 99 cards you are missing your second Tezzeret. Btw keep up the great work I love watching your videos.
Out of curiousity, have you considered Telepathy from 9th edition? It's an enchantment for U that just reads "Your opponents play with their hands revealed". It seems sweet in this deck because A) It helps you play the political game with all the extra information and B), you benefit from all the information more than anybody else because it helps you decide who to pick next with your triplets.
+Envy's Art While that would make a lot of sense in 1v1 commander, Sen triplets already draws a stupid amount of hate from an experienced group, Adding something like telepathy would simply draw more hate and force you to cough up more answers.
That;s a great deck! Also, concetrated sphinx isn't an artifact.
Cyclonic Rift bounces every board that's not yours, not just one player's.
kameenook Only if you overload it.
It is a massive waste 99 percent of the time if you don't overlord ot
Professor you are a monster. Sen triplets... Why did it have to be sen triplets.
I went the equipment route, and Angelic Arbiter makes a fun card for this deck :)
Just wanted to share my thoughts on the deck. I purchased this deck about a month after the release of this video. Over the past few months I've found myself changing quite a few things and would like to share my experience. Before I go into what I personally changed with the deck I would like to point out that I've made significant upgrades to the deck price wise, reaching around the $700 to $800 range, which I understand was not TCC's intention of building, this is simply how I've evolved with the deck. Starting off with the lands, I've almost never had an issue of not having the right colored mana. The Artifacts that TCC's deck runs are decent but I've changed quite a few to mix up the play style a bit. First off I added a scroll rack and a sensei's divining top as well as a memory jar because pillow fort for days. The biggest issue I had with this deck was the creature base, mainly Guard Gomazoa and Fog Bank. I have never found either of those creatures to be useful in the slightest, even against voltron commanders. I also wasn't too keen on the Elesh Norn and Godhead of Awe/Ixidron and felt it worked a lot better using Massacre Wurm and Rite of Replication. I also opted for more clones, Sakashima and phantasmal Image to be specific, but I feel that is more specific to my playgroup. Overall I enjoyed playing this deck for the past few months but I feel that the two biggest issues are it's lack of answers and the deck doesn't exactly have a win condition other than beating someone down w/ sphinxes, dropping Magister Sphinx and swinging for 10, or putting someone in a mindslaver lock. If anyone is interested in the complete list of what I'm currently running please let me know.
Has your deck been updated since this post I'm asking because I wanna net deck if that would be OK if you could share it or a more budget list I just need somewhere to start thanks
Hey!! it's ma boy Gwafa. He's piloting a modest pillowfort deck, and I can't help but be sleazy when i play him.
I think the Artifact "subtheme" is really a theme, i play Sen triplets and my list has more procontrol magic, so it has more discard, more lock and more bounce, and a few counters. But well it's my personal list. Thank i like to watch more edh videos in the future
@Tolarian Community College The list in the description is a card short, I believe the card missed is Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Mycosynth lattice makes all permanents artifacts, unwinding clock untaps all artifacts. Synergy is a win every time. If you want a combo that ensures your controll spells have mana fo fuel then. You can tap out on your turn and not worry about not being able to counter an enemies merciless eviction which hurts you especially since they can choose to target artifacts. It's a good card combo if you are ok with going for a more aggressive control strategy. Another nasty combo is darksteel forge and nevinyrrals disk which destroys all artifacts creatures and enchantments. Since it doesn't require you to sack it to go off, it simply destroys itself, you can make it go off as much as you want since darksteel forge keeps it safe from itself by making your permanents industructable. If you are going for a bit of a more powerful build those combos are great.
I love your videos! Keep up the great work.
Just an update for anybody building this deck in 2018 a rules change occurred in Commander where any card that can produce any color Mana is now allowed to do so instead of being limited to your commanders colors. This is a dramatic buff to cards which allow you to play other players hands.
I just finished proxying my Nekusar Draw/Mill/Burn deck. I call it... "The True Meaning of Christmas"
It's fairly consistent in what it does; plop down a bunch of draw-a-card permanents (howling mine, Dictate of Kruphix), and some cards that punish the opponent for having the audacity to draw cards (Underworld Dreams, Fate Unraveler).
perhaps you could do a video on this really fun, friendship destroying deck?
An alternative to Celestial Dawn is Chromatic Lantern. Is has the benefit of needing no color to cast and adding a mana of its own. Helping you fix your mana base and adding a little ramp.
André Mattana Pretty sure this was posted before wizards abolished the rule that if a land would produce mana outside your commander's colours, it would become colourless.
Zachary Trotman even then, the lantern is still in the decklist.
Not enough tutors to be able to rely on one specific card showing up before or when you need it, though. The first and foremost rule of Commander deck building is "Redundancy".
Since the rule change that allows you to produce any color of mana, I've been tinkering with a Triplets build that's entirely based on stealing and playing opponents' cards. Darksteel Ingot, Chromatic Lantern, Scuttlemutt, etc. for mana fixing with cards like Nightveil Specter, Fiend of the Shadows, and Grave Betrayal for taking their cards. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it plays.
+Adam Loomos Would recommend Thada Adel over Fiend of the Shadows. Also Praetor's grasp is really funny.
Man this whole deck just... Reminds me of how fast the game has gotten. So many old staples...
I love Sen Triplets. I use them for a control resource steal deck. And i use chromatic lantern.
Was wondering if there is a tapped out link to this deck? That's a much better way to view deck lists.
I always love political decks. When the original set of WotC approved commander decks came out, I (and probably only I) loved Zedruu the Greathearted for that very reason. Eventually, I went on to create a political deck around, believe it or not, Edric, Spymaster of Trest. Yes, Edric is best suited towards weenie hordes, but you'd be amazed at what a great pillow fort "attack anyone but me and you draw a card" makes for...and Simic colors are great for late game, surprise combos.
I've wondered about Sen Triplets for a long time...thanks for the video, Professor!
one of my favorite "political cards," if it could be called such, is Assault Suit. Artifact enchant that gives a creature +2/+2 and haste, it can't attack you, AND and the begining of each opponents turn, you have the option if giving them control of the creature. so much fun.
This is just wonderful!!!
I've substituted Celestial Dawn with North Star. A tad more expensive, yes. However, as an artifact it seems to go with the artifact sub theme. Plus, with Voltaic Key I can use it twice a turn and never have to worry about having the mana colors for the spells I'm casting from my opponents hand since the casting cost changes to colorless.
The decklist in the description does only contain 98 cards (excluding Sen Triplets), so there's one card missing...
but anyways, awesome video as always :)! I really like your EDH stuff.
Ps.: I would love to see your take on Skullbriar, the Walking Grave (my favorite commander to play, although honestly he could be built by a chimpanzee)!
That intro though.
I've been wanting to make a Mind Control/Mimic Commander deck for a while. My Commander was going to be Dragonlord Silumgar, but now that I know Sen Triplets exists, I might have to make it them lovely ladies.
About Celestial Dawn, I thought in Commander if you would produce mana in a color outside your commanders color identity it would produce colorless instead.
+David Uptegrove You are not producing it of another color. You are producing white mana and spending it AS THOUGH it were another color...but it is still white mana.
+Tolarian Community College so its like using Canadian dollars as though it was regular dollars.
rather than trading them for regular dollars.
+Ohad Balash The copy of Celestial Dawn that I found at my LGS had slightly different wording, but I think makes it easier to understand. It says that all the mana cost symbols of spells you are in control of (even the ones not in your particular hand) are now *the white mana symbol*. So in this case even Progenitus' mana cost would simply be 10 white mana
+Ohad Balash You wouldn't want to use Canadian dollars, though. Unless you came from the US or Europe and got that sweet exchange rate.
well with new rule change a lot of sen triplets may get alittle rework. Made sen triplets one of the strongest commandes imo.
So what about paradox haze? it allows you to choose two opponents every turn basically with sen on the board.
I would also suggest putting Mystical Teachings in this deck. It lets you tutor for any instant or any card with flash. AND it has flashback for the late game. Did I mention it's also only a common?
I'm amazed no one brought this up. Dream Halls and Omniscience enables pilot to cast spells without paying their mana cost. Dream Halls is likely better to particularly discard strong and signature cards, reducing the hand size.
You should update this deck now that you can produce mana outside of your Commander's color identity.
Sadly the rule changed only a couple months after you posted this video.
As always, I love the video.
Hey professor! You mentioned you live in California, anywhere near sf bay area? My friends and i love your channel and we are wondering if you would ever consider meeting up at a card shop and playing a game of commander with some fans? We would be happy to make the journey to wherever your LGS is, athough we understand if you want to keep the channel seperate from your personal life. Great video! Esper is my jam.
Crawlspace is nice for control too, I guess people often overlook it.
I would love to see your take on a Prossh build
Hey Prof - great video as usual. I have a review request: screw down cases for cards. I am trying to find a screw down case to protect cards I really like and I'd like to know more about them. I'd like it, if possible, these cases could fit top loaders inside of them. I'm paranoid so I like max protection. These cases seem to be more expensive and having the right information from the beginning would be helpful here. Thanks!
PS: Thanks for reminding me about the Adjudicator. I alao have a master transmuter. I might just use her. Im also planning on running both classic Sorin and Mindslaver!!
Yo prof I think you're a couple cards short of 100
Could Gwafa Hazid be a commander on his own? Go full pillow fort?
+COYADD Oh, absolutely.
Yea, I have a Gwafa deck, he's a fun political general.
+COYADD lol I love UW Pillow ort XD Nothign better to annoy the bejeezus out of people with than a deck with Moat and Isle of Waka Waka xD.
Want to get Jiggy? Thespian Stage and Vesuva REALLY makes people head desk xD
I'm thinking about doing a sen triplets affinity for arthritis deck.
Uhh, am I confused, or is Consecrated Sphinx not an artifact creature?
nope, prof messed up :)
I set up my deck for Sen Triplets to be less about controlling my opponent's hand and more about playing with their library. I mill them using cards like Grindclock and Mind Grind. Then play spells and creatures that allow me to exile things in their graveyard. And to pour salt in the wound, I use cards that allow me to play things that I already exiled. My friend hates me for this thing, it's not at top potential, but I like using it.
