Surviving a Modern Struggle Session

  • The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Episode 104
    One of the most famous and most evil techniques of Maoist Marxism is the "struggle session" (dòuzhēng, 鬥爭; or pīpàn dòuzhēng, 批判鬥爭, “critical struggle”; or sometimes just pīdòu, 批鬥; also called “denunciation” sessions). They were made famous during Mao's Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), but they were utilized in the Chinese thought-reform (xǐnǎo, 洗脑, lit. "wash brain" or brainwashing) prisons starting in the early 1950s under the CCP. The nature of struggle sessions must be understood clearly in 2022 because Western nations are going through a "Woke" Maoist insurgency now, and the struggle session is all the way back in fashion (and has been for some time). Since being banned and returning to Twitter following Elon Musk's acquisition, host of the New Discourses Podcast, James Lindsay, has been subjected to a rather brutal online struggle session (a "twitter storm" as a harassment campaign) in the attempt to punish him back off the site and to discredit his highly effective popularization of the term "groomer" for Maoist ideological groomers, especially those using Queer Marxism. In this groundbreaking episode of the podcast, James goes through the struggle session he's currently experiencing while tying it to the psychological analysis of that phenomenon as presented in Robert Jay Lifton's book Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: A Study of "Brainwashing" in China (amzn.to/3ulwEkf ). Join him to learn about this destructive form of bullying activism and to learn how you can resist it.

      True but compliance under duress especially extreme duress isn't actual compliance which, for example is why entrapment is illegal and those involved in your entrapment are charged and not you, or at least according to the letter of the law is how it's supposed to go. But, standing ones ground is admirable and should be encouraged.

There are many reasons why this fails in practice, but the simplest thing to say is that communism fails because communism doesn’t know how communism will succeed. The fundamental belief driving communists is that once enough people become true believers that the communist utopia lies on the other side of certain social changes, a perfect society will manifest. How? Because they will. The details aren’t meant to be known or told; they’re meant to be figured out. This is in exact alignment with the historicism in Marx’s dialectical materialism: once we get capitalism out of the way, we’ll enter a worker-managed system (socialism) that can start figuring out how to make the state redundant to its purposes, at which point a stateless improvement of the same will emerge and the communist utopia (and end of History) will emerge.” - Jiminy Concepts

      These people have been around for as long as recorded history and beyond. How to cause societal upheaval through sowing dialectical discordance even amongst peaceful groups. Realistically its too late to stop it now. Check out Yuri Bezmenov's breakdown of this phenomenon. Even if it were stopped right now, who knows what damage these people will cause on society until they can be "tamed" again. The subtle process of incremental brainwashing over generations has taken us to this point where we are right now. Many people over decades have been scoffed at, laughed at, and their lives destroyed by the mockingbird media for daring to expose this secret agenda and to try to warn people of the impending dangers. The train is reaching terminal velocity, things are speeding up every day as the balance of power on all fronts tips further and further into their hands.

    You made a fantastic point at 1:24:00 concerning the "Black Lives Matter" slogan. It's not just an obvious reality and catchy phrase. It was intentionally selected and crafted to not only state the obvious, but to force anyone acknowledging the statement into choosing a side, potentially denouncing oneself or forcing oneself into exile. What's important is that the recognition of that phraseology can be extended to other NGOs or public-private (fascist) programmes attempting the same thing.

    Recently I noticed that at my employer that is a big corporation, the HR department administers promotions. They have documents describing the criteria, about 5 points, each are rephrasing the same thing: how many people you sucked up to and for how many years. They have this even for technical titles like lead engineer, while nothing is there about expertise, successful work completion, averting disasters with good engineering decisions. That is all out the window.
    They want peers to give reviews and endorsements on people, and any peers that are incompetent and having fraudulent careers (lying to cover up their own screw ups), will throw mud at anyone who doesn't fail as much as they do. Especially if we point out their ... not mistakes ... but the major flaws in their contribution. Either the HR people and management who plays by their rules, are naïve, or they are intentionally do this gatekeeping: you are only allowed to have a career if you are willing to suck up to corrupt people. If you are willing to be corrupt. It is not that HR is friend with incompetent lead engineers, they have never even met, rather it is ideological: they only allow soul-less people to get ahead, like it was in the soviet union. If you falsely reported your cousin to the KGB, only then you will get a tenure at the university or in the local factory management. If your cousin really did any crime, your reporting was not as good as a false report.
    It is class-loyalty that they require, not expertise, even in an engineering department. Loyalty to a corrupt class, means you must be corrupt too, and prove how corrupt you are.

    This is why the biblical principle of having not just one witness, but corroboration is key! Whatever the accusation is, whoever is making it has the burden of proof. That used to be a principle in our legal system. That's changing now. But the principle stands. That's why I watched in stunned confusion as everyone just started accepting that they are "racists", when it was never proven that they are! Don't get on the defensive with these despicable people. You are under no obligation to defend yourself from something that hasn't first been proven! THEY have to prove it. YOU don't have to prove you didn't do it!

    Well said James. I find a lot of good ideas in your work. The idea that they are trying to get us to denounce people we like is useful. I think you are right not to denounce Nicki Clyne--I agree with you, even if she made mistakes in the past.
    I personally wouldn't use the word "groomer" to mean anything except in the context of sexual grooming which then turns into sexual contact later. I personally would call woke indoctrination brain washing or indoctrination, even when indoctrinating about gender Theory. If there is no sexual contact, I would call that indoctination, not grooming, and would reserve the word grooming for leading a minor towards sexual contact with an adult.
    I'm an academic that investigates wrongful convictions sometimes. I have seen real legal cases where kindnesses of a wrongly accused person were intitially understood to be benign, and then decades later were reinterpreted as "grooming", and further investigation led to the realization that the accuser had been creating memory distortions in therapy. So even one of your defenders, like me, will not be using the word groomer to describe woke indoctrination (unless it leads to pedophilia).
    It is extraordinarily damaging legally and within a family to be inaccurately called a groomer (or a nonce, or a pedo), and it is a remarkable common tactic in certain circumstances (especially in disputes).
    I support your right to choose the words you wish to use to make your case--your goal is similar to mine and I value what you dig up in this god-awful woke movement.

      Everything good that Marxism touches, gets hollowed out and dies. That's because, as James has laid out, Marxism is a cult whose keystone is deconstruction --it doesn't know how to build, only to destroy.
      That's why preventing their entryism is critical to maintaining any high-trust community --once they worm their way in, trust degrades and the community becomes a shell of itself. These people all think alike and spout the same words, so it's important to keep an eye on what academia is pushing in particular since that's where these dog whistles all originate.

      @ffs6158 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mouisehay930 It's like any cult like community, they will love bomb the person and make them feel like they belong. Since there is always sex involved in these things, it makes the young person even more vulnerable to manipulation into degeneracy and bizarre beliefs. Far left progressivism reigns supreme and there is a hierarchy in each group of fans, where you'll have a small group of super popular content creators/personalities and then their legions of rabid followers who consume their content. Anyone who gets into any kind of tiff with the popular people will have an army of rabid fangirls to destroy them through mass harassment or reporting, or the army just does it without any command, they reinforce the narrative and the power structure. I remember the first time I came into an Inuyasha fandom and asked a group why there was so much gay fanwork with Inuyasha and his brother and I was jumped on by about 25 people and ripped apart about how bigoted and stupid I was. And this was 2006.
      Role playing is basically a form of mutual brainwashing with other people where you can start to question your sexuality, your identity, etc. I've seen it happen so many times, I've also seen countless role playing of pedophilia (shota/lolicon), it's very very common for young girls to role play as underage boys having sex, or as an adult male raping a young boy. The RPing is very dangerous imo and normalizes sick and wrong behavior while rewarding the person with sexual arousal.
      The insidious part is it's like how the left operates everywhere else, but there is no control limit or "policing" so to say in these communities, and the grooming and pedophilia is completely unchecked and out in the open, but most people don't know about this stuff at all, and some of the ones who might have a clue tend to just blame it on "anime", but it's not the anime, it's any kind of entertainment out there. It's not the anime itself, or the show, they're usually just normal stories like Naruto or Supernatural, but these people make their fanworks sexual. Which would be fine if it was all adults, but unfortunately most fandom is 13-25.

    "Identity" is sort of the postmod 21st century shibboleth for the old term "ego"; when one says "identity" today, it invariably refers to self. "Identity" is an inherently narcissistic word.

    • @gg_rider
      @gg_rider 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the older word was developing character. Character > Identity. (Thank you for that, by the way. That will come in handy later.)
      Identity, in this context, is about being identified with, or identifying oneself with, one of the myriad groups defined as marginal-ized, and oppressed by dominant groups. Dominant group can simply be a numerical majority. It could also consist of a minority of people who are excellent, versus mediocre, whether this is about the best cardiologists or the best basketball players or the best rap lyricists, who would never be inclined to freely gift their dominance to people who are low skilled or simply lazy.
      That's how Nikole Hannah-Jones, for one example, classifies people into a group identity. The same commissars take it upon themselves to decide who doesn't get to belong to the group identity, such as black skin but not politically black.
      Mild liberal black people like John McWhorter and Coleman Hughes are excluded. Not to mention people who overtly reject Leftism like Tim Scott, Larry Elder, Candace, and many other less well known black people who appear in my TH-cam feed.
