Hire a good DJ! Do not get the kid next door that has some sound equipment. A good wedding DJ will know your schedule, adapt if something goes wrong, play the music you want and nicely turn down requests for songs you don't want to hear (chicken dance anyone?!). They can also be the master of ceremony (instead of asking your friend that hates speaking in public). A great wedding DJ does so much more than only play music!!

A great cake idea is get a plain 3 tier cake from Sam’s Club and a 12” styrofoam cake dummy to create the bottom tier. Decorate with fresh flowers from Trader Joe’s or Costco.
Edit to add-Some flowers, baby’s breath for example, are toxic so be very careful with placement of fresh flowers. I added baby’s breath under the bottom fake tier and used silk flowers from Amazon on the cake itself. Worked out beautifully

    8. Get a DJ not a band
    9. Shoes
    10. Wedding cake- maybe try a different dessert altogether

  • @ruthvansandt9713

Okay. Guest book is my only objection. It’s not for the guests - it’s for you to remember the people who showed up and support your marriage.
I want a guest bench for them to sign (my fiancée can make it) and then shellac after it’s all signed.

I think her point was that the guests don’t bother signing it in the first place so the time & money spent on it is largely wasted.

I think in general the guest book is a waste. However, I saw the idea to have your guests sign a puzzle with a picture of the couple on it; and I think it's a great idea! The hard part would be to get the guests to sign it, as you mentioned. Maybe the DJ could make a reminder announcement🤷

We're doing a photobooth, so I think it will be cute to have a photobooth guest book. We'll have corner stickers and pens so guests can put one of their photobooth prints in the guestbook and sign it.

Not get rid of them completely but you don’t need a 3 or 4 tier cake bc your guests aren’t going to eat it. A better option is have a small cake set on a riser so you can get cake pics and have wedding cake to eat but then have other deserts for guests like cookies, cupcakes, pudding, fruit etc. it’s less expensive and will be enjoyed more then a cake

    • @cloutcloud413
      @cloutcloud413 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@princesskkay221 I think it’s rude to eat something you’re not serving guests at a wedding. Just get a sheet cake if you need to save money. I would be disappointed if went to a wedding and saw the couple eating cake but didn’t get a chance to eat it as well. Not sure where the idea that people wont eat wedding cake comes from.

Invitations get the tone for the event, it allows guests to know what to wear. I do agree that programs and menus are not necessary.
I come from a family that uses china, silver wear and crystal. I do understand younger generations going with basics, as they typically don't have formula dinner parties, or even have dinning rooms.
We are getting married at home, I am looking forward to having our house filled with flowers, but does seem wasteful if renting a venue for flowers to be thrown out.
Cake often does not get eaten if not served to guests. It is an old tradition is to serve cake to seated guests and a piece in a box to take home to put under their pillow to dream about the love of their life. Cut real size slice if you have a large cake. But make sure it tastes great and ditch the fondant.

  • @princesskkay221

I disagree about open bar, people will definitely notice if you don’t have open bar. I do agree guest book are a waste. Nobody ever looks at them after your get married and most ppl don’t even remember to sign them. I also agree about the cake. I think having a nice desert table with maybe a small cake on a riser for cake cutting pics is better. The cake never gets eaten and it’s a waste

Instead of a guest book, I wanna get a blank canvas and some sharpies and have everyone sign it and write messages on it. My wedding isn't gonna be huge, 100 guests at most. And then we can hang it up!

That’s something a friend of mine did and I loved the idea! I’ve also seen someone have a leafless tree, and stamps for people to push their thumb into and then press their thumb onto the canvas and sign their name below it.
If I do end up doing a “guest book” I want it to be something that will actually be displayed in my home.

If we have a small cake just to cut for pictures - is it rude to serve a dessert station to guests but not the cake ? As the cake will be mainly for photos and won’t be nearly enough to serve the guests.

Hi 😊 to be honest, most 'guests' don't even care about showing up to the wedding, lol, so with that said, should people even have weddings? I say go big or go home, it's your day and you should be able to do anything you want. Just my opinion ❤

I totally disagree about the cake. In my family, half don’t care for it because of health issues. The other half, is waiting for that highlight in the wedding and to eat it too.

The small name cards that are usually placed on a large table in the cocktail area or near the venue entrance telling guests which table they’re seated at. The bring it with them to their seat.

One great tip that I saw was a recommendation to just get a small wedding cake (top tier) for cutting and pics then get sheet cake of your favorite flavor to cut and serve.

I still have favors from weddings that took place twenty years ago. Some of us do keep them, I was taught to do this. I have been to many weddings where people just did not know that they could take the wedding favors or the bride forgot to put them out till it was too late. I think there needs to be some way to communicate that they are available to the guests. It is especially hard for guests as there is often no way to know who owns them so they do not want to take the wrong thing or they are afraid to ruin the table setting to take that pretty thing that is supposed to be a favor. Sometimes people are too preoccupied/drunk when they are leaving to remember to take the favors.
I disagree about the cake. I know people who talk about wedding cakes long afterwards and seen crowds standing in awe of wedding cakes. I do not think it needs to be grand, but having a cake is a piece of the memories. I have made a cake for a friend, got lots of complements on it and later found out that the left overs were brought to another person's wedding and they ate it there and they loved it. I know of people who never got to actually eat their cake as it was all eaten before they could try it and it is a sticking point decades later. I do believe that traditionally any left overs are supposed to be eaten the next day at the gift opening. If you do not want to have too much cake you can always have some of the tiers be styrofoam.

I thought my Matron of honor would take the task of coordinating my "day of events" for me ; but , she said I needed a wedding coordinator to greet guest, get quest book signed, direct the flow of events. But, she did say she would be my mental supporter.and get me in touch with the ppl and things ,I want. Now, a simple 30ppl wedding reception is getting confusing.😱😖😖. I will let ya'll know , who I pay to coordinate my Closest friend's tasks🤣🤣🤣. Is that in a Coordinators contract????.
It seems the hardest thing in having an event is, telling ppl what YOU (the bride want.) Do you have a video about this probem?
