  • Have you ever heard of Indian Hills, Kentucky? It's a hidden city that was never annexed by the city of Louisville, and it happens to be one of, if not, the nicest cities to live in all of Kentucky. St. Matthews is another decent suburb that I go through in this video. Other nice neighborhoods out this way that are apart of Louisville includes Clifton and Crescent Hill.

I grew up in a much less affluent area of St. Matthews. You drove right past it, Clover Lane, formerly Produce Avenue where potato’s were loaded to Railroad cars. I lived in a two bedroom home which was built after WW2. As I recall the house originally sold for about $3000. It now is valued at $280,000. What I miss most is the sound of steam locomotives pulling freight or passengers on tracks along Westport Road just a 100 yards from my home. And, I also miss the crowing of Bantam Roosters every morning, raised by a man just a few doors down from my home.

Yeah, me, and mom were even trying to get an apartment in there, but found out the rent was too expensive. I guess it was probably a good thing we never got it. Also, another apartment complex in that area you want to avoid is Mallgate. That place is a dump, and it's full of crime.

I've lived most of my long life on and near these streets. I could name most before the street sign popped up in the corner. There were many missed opportunities for historical comments, but what there was, was interesting, excepting ignorant comments on Bourbon. The steep brick paved street next to Barret Middle School is Peterson Avenue. When my father was a young man around 1930, the guys tested their cars by seeing if they could go up Peterson in high gear. Indian Hills was the "posh" neighborhood in my youth, but is now "outposhed" by Norton Commons, further to the East.

No apartments and dollars to donuts, no mass transit as well. I rent. And on SSD/SSI reasonable rentals are hard to find. The college town I moved to once developers grabbed up cheap land in the last college town haven't gotten here yet. Two things that really nice nearby counties/towns avoid in both cases are apartment buildings (the kind I can afford) and mass transit. Both affordable rental units and mass transit invite issues ie crime. Not that small towns without either don't have crime. Just an observation based on my experiences.

Dear Nostalgia Boy, some comments about the taste of Louisville Water: First of all, what's in it may taste fine to those who drink it. I understand that some people like to drink Pennsylvania Bourbon and it has poison in it. Also not everybody in Kentucky drinks Lewisville water and that may not be the sole reason why some of them have cancer. The last I knew Kentucky Had quite a high rate of cigarette smoking and this possibly could be a contributory Factor. Yours truly

What's "lame" is your unawareness of water treatment facilities. Yes, the Ohio River is filthy, but it's all about the filtration. Residents aren't drinking from the Ohio River directly, sheez. Filtration is how Louisville's tap water has gotten high rankings in the past. Also, old lead pipes worsen the taste which is probably what you tasted. Such ignorant lashing out along with some of your other narration ("drug deals on every corner") indicates you're a conservative or are at least conservative-leaning.
The few videos I've seen are otherwise of decent quality and I'll keep watching this Louisville series, but such confident knuckleheadedness has to be called out.
