@@picklemetimbers3003 Laws aside, it looked to me like the thieves were going to leave without shooting. So it's too bad that this man is essentially trading months or years of his relative freedom for a car. That being said, what I never seem to hear people talk about is FUTURE thefts. Just because the thieves may have left these folks without harm doesn't mean their next victims would have had a similar experience. I don't feel that the man saved his life in this scenario. But literally nobody can know who's life or lives he saved by taking these criminals out of play.

@Dennis McConnell that's illogical. That's like saying, sometimes the truth isn't anywhere near the truth. It can't be both. Self defence would require proving in court, just like it does already. Possession of firearms doesn't equate to more unsolved murders, and it seems a stretch to even link the two. Tbf, the city in USA which mandated gun ownership observed a significant fall in their violent crime rates, likely due to the criminals understanding, most folk have guns and the full right to use them in defence of their lives or home, so violence is much more likely to end with at least one person dead, therefore, burglary, robbery etc, not worth a life.

I have frequently explained to those in the " gun control " delusion that there are at least 10 other nations that have more restrictive firearms laws than the U.S., with a greater number of per capita firearm related deaths. Brazil is one of them.
Sadly, the guy who had his life on the line, through no fault of his own, will face criminal prosecution. Meanwhile, in places like CA and NY, the same is happening. Honest, prudent, productive citizens have to either decide to carry a firearm illegally to protect themselves from brutal criminal attack, or submit to the law and hope they aren't severely injured or killed by those who blatantly ignore the law.

When pulling in my garage, I've been making it a habit to stay in my car and examine my surroundings, especially looking for any car or person who may be trying to follow me up the drive and gain entry into the garage. As I just sit and observe surround, I have multiple weapons (knives, clubs, pepper spray) and a flashlight in hand or ready at hand. Sometimes I also have a handgun on my person as well. And I just sit there at the ready surveying my environment for a minute or so before rolling the garage door by hitting the automatic garage door button in the car, turning off the ignition, exiting the vehicle, and going inside. I'm not paranoid. I'm prepared. I take transitional spaces and transitional times seriously. They are moments and places of great vulnerability.

Brazillian here: I think the gun control situation is even worse than CA from what I know (from here and there). It is hard, expennsive and slow to own a firearm, but it's "doable". National weapons from Taurus cost around 3 to 4 minimum wages here (around 1,5 thousand dollars for the cheaper ones) and can have a lead time from starting the process to having it in your hands of about a year.
But the thing is: that is just for possessing the firearm at your home or store. If you want to carry it is practically impossible. The permit is conceded only to "special classes", like LEO, military or people that can prove that they have the "effective need" of carrying a firearm (as being brazillian isn't enough).
And all of that before considering that most prosecutors and LEOs are anti-gun (unless it's their guns) and you will probably be scrutinized even after going through all the hoops if you ever get involved in an incident.
John, thanks for all the work put in your videos. It really helped me a lot and make me consider my safety daily. Hit me up if you ever need any information or help in regards to something here in Brazil. NO American citizen can legally have conditions imposed on whether or not he or she shall enjoy The Constitution’s first 10 amendments & the civil & universal freedoms it provides. These civil liberties are every single legal American’s birthright (including the 2nd Amnd., regardless of who likes it or not). The Bill of Rights cannot be granted or rescinded by any contemporary entity, in the government or elsewhere. Nobody in this world has that legal authority, no matter how rich or powerful they are, or what title/job they hold. It’s not up to them, regardless of who or what they are or represent. There is no grey area in these most important, foundational documents that form the basis of our government of, for, & by the people (of which all else is built upon): you & I (as well as each one of our fellow countrymen) are GUARANTEED the Bill of Rights protections of our civil liberties NO MATTER WHAT, period, case closed.
