Your closing words on the remarkable nature of music history echoes a lot of what I believed and been fascinated by for years now. Keep up the great work of showcasing just how intricate these stories in music can be

Thanks for posting on the Prunes. I saw them live circa 2005 and it was easily my favorite show that year. I weas able to speak to Mark Tulin for a couple of minutes after the show to praise, in particular his playing and, even more, Ken Williams guitar playing. He smiled and said how great it was for the band to finally play and be in charge of their own career. He did disown Mass in F Minor by the way.
And you did not mention the Stockholm live show on the other side of the cassette. It was probably the best live album made in '67, and the band, especially Ken Williams, could play the songs as well as they did in the studio. Probably my favorite Prunes record.

The Prunes remind me of thrift store shopping back in 2010 as a young lad. Good times! Thanks for reminding me of those days and this band.

Well done - my compliments: A lot to comprend here, given the musicians involved were "played" by their labels, for the label's profit motives through licencing agreements ... as typical for that time, and appears to continue to this day

The first time I ever read a history of the band and I bought all 3 original lp’s when they were released….1st one and the 2 Axelrod strange ones….so 1 have been a fan since 1968! The second record was never released in the UK at the time

Congratulations for this video as it covers in depth the original band and its offspins (well, maybe you skipped the Just Good Rock 'n' Roll band's incarnation, but it is probably the less interesting).
There are also at least two another Prunes records around, the one with the 1967 Stockholm concert, which seems to be included on your 'mystery casette' and which was originally released in 1997 (bootleg edition?) and Prunes self-released in 2012 'Return to Stockholm' drom a 2004 gig, in Stockholm, again.
I am what it could be called a last wave fan of the Prunes, since I discovered them through the 1998 Nuggets Box Set (the expanded 4 CD version of the original double LP release). Since then, I managed to find their records (I guess now I have to explore the Axelrod lineage) and even I managed to attend two concerts, one in Madrid, Spain in 2005 and another in Montreal in 2009. They were actually very good playing live, but by then only James Lowe and Mark Tulin remained from the original lineup.

A cassette with an inlay photocopied on coloured cardstock... that takes me back alone. Used to pick up gig recordings from a bloke in Camden and that is how they came. Some were very good sound desk recordings. Well worth it if you were diving into a new band. I'm sure the guy selling those cassettes sold Jarvis Cocker some tickets a few years later and got mentioned in a song.;)

Also is it just me or does the chorus to “I Had Too Much To Dream” sound like “Nostalgia” by the Buzzcocks?

Hassinger was a good engineer. The Stones loved his production of Aftermath. (Usually regarded as the best sounding Stones album of the 60s.) Jim Lowe must have been paying attention as he was the engineer for Nazz II and on the first three Todd Rundgren albums. (I saw Nazz in 1968 - with US Kaleidoscope - and they were great. I saw the Electric Prunes (circa 2005) after they reformed with Lowe, Tulin (great bass sound) and Ken Williams (probably my favorite underrated guitarist), and they were even better!
