    The xpro1 is a classic Fuji camera and still massively popular. it's a shame it doesn't have a diopter although you can buy old Nikon or Voigtlander film camera diopters but you'll really need to know your optician results. For example I'm -1.25 in my photography eye. Enjoy the camera and lens.

    Really enjoy the reasoning in these videos and its nice to see someone encouraging MF lenses and explaining what that shooting experience offers. I completely agree; for BS client work i'd use modern AF all day long, but for personal work, street, and travel id always take vintage manual lenses, even film cameras with me. That concept of 'every frame's a prisoner' is important, and the imagination it encourages and develops is what I enjoy - it makes you better. And yes, the TTartisan lenses i think are great - i have a couple for different systems and they do have that lovely analog vibe but remarkably sharp. In many (most) of the FB groups im in, these ideas are a tough sell though - we are dealing with a generation who would prefer to shoot AF burst mode on a static building. But thumbs up from me for fighting the good fight!

    • @GeorgeHolden
      @GeorgeHolden  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback! Yes I think burst AF is good for sports or delivering client work consistently but street I think needs unpredictability and needs you to remain engaged. Might just be my personal take but had really helped me find a flow

    I hope this setup works for you! I was looking to satisfy a similar need but wanted an optical VF that’s TTL the taking lens, so regardless of the lens attached I can get an accurate framing; and wanted the option of blazingly fast and accurate AF in the optical VF. I ended up with a crop-sensor DSLR; inexpensive and more accurate framing than the “L” brand costing 20x more!

    When I had to go from film to digital, I tried first Canon and then Sony. Holy shit, what a crap. Then I bought a Lumix, because I knew Panasonic as a quality video camera. By accident, I found a Leica M8 online and paid less than 1,500 GBP/12,000 DKK for it. I was back to manual photography. A guy wanted to buy the M8 and I got 15,000 DKK for it. Today I use a M240 and an MP-240 for my main jobs as press photographer. My Lumix GX8 is now for video shooting and for photography with long tele lenses. I've no intentions to switch to newer range finder or DSLR cameras, because I knew my gear is up for what I shoot. JPEG and DNG (RAW) at the same time. Keep your gear simple, minimalistic and hold it for many years to come. Keep on rolling!

    Gwan lad, great choice of camera. Zone focusing is a breeze with native XF lenses. You need to use the display feature in camera, either through the EVF or LCD that tells you your range of focus as you manually change distance and aperture. Zone focus scale may not be on the lenses, but the feature is there if you know how. I sue this feature all the time for street work. Also, you can get third party 19mm diopters from Nikon and others that fit the X-Pro1. You just need to know your diopter strength. I’m a +1 and it makes a huge difference.

    • @derrenleepoole
      @derrenleepoole ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, press and hold any function button or scroll wheel to change its function. The back button scroll wheel is use to punch in fine critical focus. Function 1 ISO etc. I can change any setting without taking the the camera from my eye. Stick with the camera, it’s a fantastic workhorse.

    • @GeorgeHolden
      @GeorgeHolden  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers Derren! Yes I didn't mention the digital focus distance, I used it on this with the 35mm f2 and on my old X100S, as good as it is it doesn't tick that box for the analogue approach I like from 35mm shooting. Lucky for me no diopter needed but did forget to mention that in the video. At the moment I'm the same, tend to just Fn 1 for ISO, then shutter dial, aperture ring and zone focus for everything else - love the camera so far

      @@GeorgeHolden got ya. It really is a great camera. Mine is battered to hell, OVF cracked, LCD screen scratched, black missing everywhere. A true workhorse. Well, inspired by this video I’ve just been out in golden hour using the 18mm f2 using zone focus. It’s a lovely way to work. If you really really want that film shooting experience but with the convenience of digital, there’s only one way to go. You know the word. Begins with L and ends in A ;) The Fuji X-Pro line comes very close, but the Leica M9 is something else. I would strongly recommend trying one if you can. I was sceptical of all the platitudes thrown at Leica, but it is well deserved.

    Really enjoying adapting my original Olympus Pen lenses to the Fuji. That would give you your Olympus fix. The 38mm f/1.8 are a dime a dozen and create great images on the Fuji that remind me a lot of my Pen FT images. Worth picking up if you want something closer to the 50mm equivalent focal length and it's quite compact.

      @benbunch4159 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GeorgeHolden the widest they did was a 20mm f/3.5. They also have a 25mm f/4 and f/2.8. Generally lenses for this system are either dirt cheap or way overpriced. They’re similar to APS-C lenses since it was a half frame system so they do have a lot of nice character from closer to the edge of the image circle than full frame glass. If you’re gonna pick up anything from the system look for a deal on a body too.

    Very interesting choices. I am not a Fujifilm user (actually, I don’t like their design philosophy and the overhyped/overpriced cameras). Sure, for many people are great, just not for me. I can tell though about the TTArtisan 23mm f1.4 lens, which is the main lens I am using on my Sony a6000.
    This lens is a very unique piece of glass, especially for the price. For the E mount there are plenty of 23/1.4 lenses, both AF and MF, but there’s something in the rendering of that TTArtisan that makes photos 3D in a way that makes it unparalleled. Yes, Sony’s 24/1.4 GMaster is an image quality monster (for a price), while Sigma released recently a 23/1.4 that is clinically sharp! There is Viltrox 23/1.4 with AF and nice price and Samyang has its 24/1.4… all of the above are many times pricier, bigger, heavier and very corrected. TTArtisan, from the other hand, took a vintage lens formula and thrown it in a solid barrel with amazing precision and only basic corrections. The result is photos that are looking very detailed yet full of character! From f1.4 to f3.3 the bokeh and the field curvature (like most true vintage lenses) makes for a classic film aesthetic, while from f4 to f8 you have a really impressive edge to edge sharpness for any type of photography.
    Lastly, about focusing, there is a very tiny sweet spot that makes the image tac sharp but you have to find it looking in the EVF. On my a6000 I have the MF assist but there is a trick: because the EVF is slightly lower resolution, when you are achieving perfect focus the view looks like pixelated! That works 100% for me. Zone focusing on crop frame cameras is just wasting of time because the DOF scales are designed for FF.

    Great video! Hopefully anyone who hasn't zone focused will find it encouraging and useful because it's the street photographer's secret. Zone focusing shouldn't be complicated because with street photography there is only one zone! Do as Weegee says and "f8 and be there". This will open up your zone so you'll have greater depth of field resulting in fewer OOF shots. When I'm shooting off camera street, I'm dialing down to f16, even f22. I'll prefocus on my foot and then anything from 1m to infinity will be in focus, roughly speaking. After that I'm not even thinking about zones or focusing (different story if you're doing street portraits and want subject separation, of course). If nothing else it's worth presetting the camera like this as a starting point, just in case a moment presents itself. And with zone focusing it means any camera will do since you're not relying on the AF, making your setup perfect. I'm tempted to buy that camera, just for some fun! The lens is meant to look like a Zeiss Jena, also known as a zebra lens.

      @@GeorgeHolden let's consider that Canon 300D (AKA „Rebel” or „Kiss”, if I'm correct): it can be fitted with Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens. So to use „zone focusing” just set ISO to „auto”, aperture to 8 (or, even better, to 11, if the day is sunny), then use autofocus to focus on anything that is about 10 meters distant from you, and switch the focus to manual. You're all set up for your street photo session, having a focus zone from two meters to infinity.
      If you feel like introducing some complications, you can earlier note a few values from „Depth of Field Table” to be found on DOFMaster web-page (there's a calculator for many lenses).

    I recently dumped $30k in Leica bodies and lens to go back to 2 X-Pro 1s. All I really need for street. ...And my bank account is happy again.

    With over 70 years of lenses and adapter mounts bro has a choice of maybe 3000 second hand manual focus lenses… but buys a NEW lens for an old shooting experience …

      Yes, to get a full frame equivalent of 35mm or shorter - otherwise I have to deal with manual crop factors 👍

    Something I always want to say. If you want zone focusing. Stop down the lenses, just use your damn phone.
    I got a collection of takuma and Nikon ai/ais lenses. I love using them with my Sony and Fujifilm body. But zone focusing nowadays is stupid

    At the end of the day; it is yet another Fujifilm camera promotion again. I’m wondering how come some photographers are suddenly obsessed with this brand! Granted, Kylie Katich launched a TikTok video promoting a Fujifilm camera. But, then so many other such promotions are there.
    It doesn’t happen on regular basis. This promotion hit a rare luck that left even the manufacturer off guard. Reality is, it’s just another camera like many others.
    I’m a Canon user and love street photography. Street photography is about capturing moments telling stories - not how the images look unless those are totally rubbish. All my six cameras (5 DSLRs & one G5X) are perfectly capable equipment to produce those wonders. No need whatsoever to think about any other imaging system.
    Thank you for the video.

      Thanks for sharing - I'm far from obsessed with Fuji, but at the moment if I want an OVF that isn't a DSLR or a 35mm rangefinder, I'm out of options! I'm using this alongside film, Micro Four Thirds, Sonys and compact cameras - another tool to shoot street with! Sounds like you've got a great set of kit, keep shooting!

      With all respect I suggest you watch the video again.. it isn't a Fuji plug..this is about fun, technique and IMHO showing that cheap 'old' or new kit of many brands can do the job... Enjoy..🙏
