    Making a Fight Club tie-in game a fighting game is like having a Big Lebowski tie-in game be a bowling video game.

      A bowling game based on The Big Lebowski would be wonderful as long as it still has the film's quirky humor and colorful characters. It could be set before the movie and follow the Dude, Walter, and Donny as they participate in the bowling tournament against their nemesis Jesus. It'd be extra dope if you were able to get all the actors back to do voice work, or at least get one of the Cohen brothers to write the dialogue. You could even have Sam Elliot come back as the cowboy narrator so he can be the announcer for the tournament. If the bowling mechanics are at least as functional as Wii Bowling, you'd have a pretty solid game.

      I think it would be more like a Terminator 2 videogame that's actually just a motorcycle racing game. Or a Titanic videogame where you only play various card games, or is just an arm wrestling game.

    "I don't know the funny part is, I've heard you when I go to pee and that's just "Uh. Uhhhh." "
    That is so god damn accurate.
    I mean go back to some of the very first let's plays for evidence on this matter.
    First time I remember Gabe filling (Young Merlin) he actually managed to fill the dead air quite effectively.
    Meanwhile, one of the first times I remember Yahtzee having to fill (Normality) he legit decides to just _go silent._

    I'm so glad this has become a regular thing. Zero Punctuation is awesome and all but it's awesome to hear Yahtzee in an unscripted way. Gabe brings a hell of a lot to it too and the way they bounce off of each other is epic. The format is good too, nice to see a cross-section of semi-obscure gaming history!

    Random fun fact, the narrator referred to themselves as "Jack" in Fight Club based on a series of made-for-classroom educational videos on anatomy and biology. "I am Jack's Heart", and the like, the titular Jack being a regular guy undergoing regular daily activities and such, and the narrator being the organ in question talking about their purpose and the way Jack is slowly killing them with his poor decision making skills.

    My favourite part of Spec Ops: The Line is how the loading screen text changes. Got one towards the end of the game that just said "Do you feel like a hero yet?" or some variation like that. Just felt like I'd been told off by God himself, it was amazing.

    • @DeMomcalypseLive
      @DeMomcalypseLive 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      LorrdMatt I remember Angry Joe once saying in his Battlefield 3 review "That's what this game does perfectly, simulating war", and I play about half way through Spec Ops: The Line, just past the Phosphorus, and now I realize how shallow modern shooters have been. Leave it to a generic-looking third person shooter to create some satire about the concept of patriotic and realistic shooters. And yet we still get Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare, games that entirely missed the point (at least in single player)

    Secondlife didn't die because of the fetishists(It's still not technically Dead, just dead inside). It died because it was programmed using Sawdust and Cello-Tape. It was one of those grand ideas that got hamstrung by the ineptitude of their developers, with more crashes than a destructo-derby and more bugs than an african termite hill with a louse infestation.

    Red Dead is fine, but may I recommend a few titles which are a bit more obscure: Outlaws, GUN, Freddy Pharkas or Dead Man's Hand
    - Outlaws: 1997 Lucasarts 2.5D (think Duke3D, Doom II or Blood) FPS. An arse to make it work on modern systems, requires a custom installer program and 16-bit color depth for the cut scenes, but it's a lot of fun.
    - GUN: 2005 western TPS. Works fine on modern systems, has sensible control scheme for mouse+keyboard. It looks like it's an open world game but it really isn't. It was a X360 launch title, but I don't know if it has out-of-the-box X360 controller support for the PC.
    - Freddy Pharkas - Frontier Pharmacist: Al Lowe's western point and click adventure game. Compatible with ScummVM. The puzzles are Sierra standard hard.
    - Dead Man's Hand: an absolutely mindless arcade FPS from Human Head Studios, who later made Prey. It's almost rail shooter level of dumb, but you can actually walk around. On the plus side you can almost finish it on an episode. It's from 2004 and runs on Unreal Engine 2.0, it even comes with the level-editor
    EDIT: it's not necessary to change the desktop color depth to run Outlaws. Rather explorer.exe must be killed before running. Best way to do this is with a small batch file:
    taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
    OLWIN.exe
    Start explorer.exe
    EDIT 2: Games suggested in replies:
    - 'Enslaved: Odyssey to the West' by saedimic
    - 'The Town With No Name' by Prof. Luigi
    - 'The Wild Bunch' by Leyvin360
    - 'Organ Trail' suggested also by Leyvin360

    To be fair to Kojima, the ending to Metal Gear Solid 4 was not his idea. He wanted it to end with Snake shooting himself in that graveyard, which would have been poignant and powerful but everybody on his team (or so the story goes) convinced him to end it on a happy note. So suddenly Snake is no longer dying, Big Boss is not only still alive but also "redeemed" in a way where it turns out that he wasn't the villain at all and in the meantime the real villain has literally been defeated by old age.

    • @bastardsofnazareth

    • @brunogonz86
      @brunogonz86 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, from the post credits scene, Snake was still going to die in about a month, he just wasn't going to turn into a biological weapon. I think actually that the decision of letting Snake go out peacefully after years of continuous struggle was better than have him commit suicide. But other than that the ending was shit

    On the subject of good LPs I would plug Spoiler Warning. It's not a completionist LP I'd call it more of an editorial style, they have Shamus Young (writer for the Escapist) and Chris Franklin (of Errant Signal/long-form analysis fame) and mostly just have smart discussions what did and didn't work for them in the game in between screwing around and having fun.

    As I understand it this will probably be to kidish for the taste of the two but while at the topic of serialised vs. status quo television I'd like to bring up "Adventure Time".
    It's a cute cartoon show, a bit in the spirit of ... I dono ... Ren and Stimpy? But not as twisted?
    Anyway, the thing that is to be admired with the show is that you can praticly pick up any episode, watch it, get it and move on with your live without having the feeling of missing out because you don't know the backstory of everything. Hell, the whole series starts more or less right in the action and most people wonder if they got the right episode and if what they watched maybe wasn't epsiode 1 at all. At the same time it is a living, breathing, evolving world where everything builds ontop of each other. You discover characters over time, their motivations, their traits, all the good stuff. But it's never so involved with itself that you're lost if you haven't seen every episode leading up to the one you're about to watch. The show is quite ingenious in that regard (and many others ^^)
    But, as I said, it is a kids cartoon show so I recon not many peeps here will have much of a interrested in that sort of thing.

    "'Let's Drown Out' is our own thing; do not steal."
    Too late, some other guy on TH-cam has already started calling his videos "Let's Drown Out" (sigh).
    Gabriel, Yahtzee didn't say he *hoped* Destiny would be shit; he said it probably would be, and he's explained that attitude about games in general. Assume they're shit until they prove otherwise. No hype, no disappointment.

    If Yahtzee ever went "BOOORIIING!" during a conversation with me and we were alone, I'd punch him in the face. Or headbutt him. Depends on how close I am; either way, the conversation would likely end, as per his wishes. If I was with other people, however, it would require a bit of gauging the room. If people aren't grinning, then conversation is over, if they are, then go right back to talking.
    Social interaction is hard like that.

    While I didn't actually watch most of this movie, I had it on in the background while I was doing other things and I have to say it is one of my favorites in the series. I don't have much else to contribute apart from I was sincerely hoping that "slide" may lead to an SSX title, and I don't recall hearing any cheesy references to the Goo Goo Dolls song.

    Well I liked Playstation Home.... or at least the general concept of it: walking around as "yourself" in a virtual world and being able to talk and do things with people in a chat room, more or less, if you so desired.
    I didn't play it much because the load times implied they were building each room by hand every time you entered, but it was still a cool concept...

    Let's be fair here. If Second Life hadn't become a haven for furry sex, it would have become a haven for 4channers or proto-tumblrites or some other ungodly obnoxious internet subgroup. Too tantalizing an environment for ONE of them not to completely ruin it.

    • @OdaSwifteye
      @OdaSwifteye 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rhory Bader I remember its original purpose. It was just a business tool for people to make deals in virtual spaces. It was anachronistic when it was designed. Virtual hub be it Second Life or Habbo Hotel they are all excuses to roleplay and where roleplay goes sex roleplay follows. No matter how cringey or awkward.
      Basically Second Life was screwed but honestly its fulfilling its destiny. Its very perverted destiny.

    I like these Kojima opinions from Yahtzee a lot more than what he's said in Zero Punctuation because these are reasonable criticisms of things that have happened and in ZP I've always viewed as a bit skewed and unfairly harsh. MGS3 showed that he can do a relatively well done, convoluted plot involving The Boss even some in Peace Walker but then you have MGS4 which for most cutscenes is a story-based train wreck involving nostalgia wank characters that have lived in the game that make zero impact or sense

    If you want a good archival LPer for games that are more out there, I definitely suggest Supergreatfriend. He's funny, not obnoxious, and LP's games to absolute completion, even if it involves getting 50 fucking trading cards in a stupid fucking fishing minigame. The games he's done are things like Deadly Premonition, Illbleed, and D2, and he also does weekly stuff such as OUYA roundup and the week in Xbox Live Indie Games.
