  • Has your chinchilla stopped eating? Do you need to start syringe feeding? Let me show you how to do that!
    Chinchillas have a very sensitive digestive system which makes refusal of food quite dangerous. If this happens to your chinchillas, and you do not have immediate veterinary care available this can save your chinchillas life!
    In this video, I will explain what Oxbox Critical Care is, when it is necessary to feed it, and how to syringe feed critical care to your chinchilla.

      Thank you! Many chinchilla owners actually find holding a chinchilla by the tail to be cruel but its actually the safest way to keep control of a chinchilla without harming them. Chinchillas actually have a few floating ribs that are not attached to the sternum plus a lot of flexibility in their rib cage. Which in fact is the reason why they are liquids. Like mice, anything they can stick their head through their body will go through as well. Which is why it is so dangerous to accidentally squeeze them around the middle. The rib cage can injury their internal organs.

    My chinchilla has had to start antibiotics today and was not very happy about it but it’s tough love🙂 hopefully she’ll start to be a little easier about it and not make it a project

      I have one that really enjoys it. I don't even need to pick her up she she comes over and holds it like a bottle. It is quite adorable. Malley, in this video, however does not like how critical care tastes.

    If you don't have access to the critical care food in an emergency are you able to use their own pallets with water in the syringe

      Yes!! I usually grind them up in a food processor or blender with water to add to a syringe!

    heyy! i know this video is a bit old but my chinchilla has been sick for a bit and is almost ready to come off her meds and critical. although a lot of critical care has got on her neck.. ): sometimes she will suddenly move her head when im syringe feed her. which causes the critical to drip down her neck, sometimes it takes her a minute go start chewing as well. so it just starts dripping out of her mouth ): she has been improving though which im so happy about. but when she comes off tbe critical care entirely, should i just cut some of the matted fur with the dried critical care? ): it wont cause anything severe i hope...? will it come out by its self over time? should i try brushing it out? i really dont know and i want whats best for her. -thanks!

      It is not a huge issue. It is probably just a little uncomfortable for her. I would avoid brushing it out but here are a few other suggestions. If she is calm enough for you to safely cut the mattes out, I would. If not, I would try a few dust baths and see if she will take care of it herself. If those two suggestions do not work, I would take a damp rag and try to clean them out, but make sure to thoroughly dry the area with a towel and hair dryer on cool; however, I would only do this as a last resort because chinchillas and water aren't the best combo. Hope this helps!

    Can I give it to my chinchilla dry

    • @ChinVillain
      @ChinVillain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, I guess. But the point of putting water in critical care is to make sure that your chinchilla is also getting water. Because if they are not eating they are probably not drinking either.
