I got mine in May of this year and couldn't be happier, this is my second Export kit. I still have the one I bought in 1986 and it still holds up. I really like the tom mounting system, it eliminates a lot of unwanted overtones, it's similar to the RIMS. The hardware is rock solid and it holds up to my pretty grueling schedule. I couldn't see paying 5 grand for a kit that is going to take a real pounding and multiple set-ups and tear downs every week. You will need to change out the batter heads on all of the drums, they aren't the greatest, but they will get you through until you can afford them. I got the smokey chrome finish and it really shines under the lights, but it is a fingerprint magnet, so if you get that finish, carry a micro-fiber cloth with you. Well done Pearl, and thanks.
I got Pearl Export drums - the 22 inch bass drum, the 16 inch floor tom, and a 12 inch rack tom. They sound great! I’ve used different heads, different sticks, mallets etc, they are really versatile drums in my opinion. And they don’t sound “cheap”, nor do they look cheap, they are really solid builds. I recommend trying one out!
This the exact kit I own. My gig kit. I also have a late 80's Export kit with much bigger rack toms that I now use for my practice kit. I love it! It is durable, sounds great and looks beautiful!
Great review! My wife bought me an electric blue sparkle version for Christmas a couple years ago to supplement my 1961 Slingerland, but she didn’t get the cymbals because I already have a full set of Zildjian As. I can’t say enough good about it, especially once I put Evans G2 coated heads on the toms. I don’t like to use muffling on my toms or snare, preferring instead to take the time to tune properly. The toms have a focused, warm, pitch-bend sound throughout the range, and the 10” Tom makes me smile inside every time I hit it. It is the easiest-to-tune drum I have ever owned, and the 12” and 16” aren’t far behind, especially with the upgraded heads. I suspect the clean bearing edges and 3-point Opti-Loc mount have a lot to do with that. The snare indeed has a warm, woody “POW!!!” that, while not quite as good as my old Radio King, has proven to be very versatile in weekend warrior use. The included 800- and 900-series hardware is another bonus. You get a ton of great stuff for your $$$, as usual with Pearl. I honestly love my Export.
I as an American (and average guitarist who starting to play a little drums) When he said 803 pounds, I was thinking 803lbs!! I was really nervous for a split second! How I would get it in the house?! I would need to call up some friends to help lift it! Great playing! Insightful video. Just ordered one, excited to play it!
Hi pal what about the tom sounds i mean which tunning you prefer on it, I'm kinda low tunning so was wondering if that will match with this kit, I already got an 20" export bass drum and I was thinking to get a 12"tom and 14" floor tom eventually 16" too but I'm also looking for the yamaha stage custom that's all birch shells
Currently a guitarist with snare drum brass and concert experience of long long ago, I was going to buy Yamaha's Stage Custom Birch shell and hardware pack as my first drum kit, however due to the impact of peak COVID plan-ic-demic around that time 02/2021 inducing a how long is a piece of string but undeniably lengthy delay with supply problems from Yamaha of that also very popular line, pragmatism saw me go with an immediate purchase of my second choice of Pearl's EXX Export in their 22" Fusion Plus shell EXX725SPC (no cymbals, throne, sticks bundle) config but supplied with their HWP830 hardware pack. Having owned and played my Export set for over a year now, I am truly glad I did. With the benefit of that hands on and 20:20 hindsight, if I was to buy again today I would choose Pearl's Export as my #1 choice tasked to my purpose, need, at a price which permitted me largesse to accessorise without ballistically blowing my budget to divorce threshold levels. In short, it permitted me to direct funds into buying both foreseen niceties I wanted and many unforeseen accessories one only realises belatedly are necessities consequently improving the overall drumming experience for me along with encouraging the support of my family and reducing impact on less enthusiastic neighbours. So what am I talking about in terms of niceties and necessities. Have a read and do the arithmetic. It provided me with a choice of preferred cymbal set brand & segment, a throne I actually wanted to sit which would seem me through years on rather than pun intended a basic bare bones stool, multiple pairs of nylon & wood tipped different duty Firth, Vater & Zildjian sticks, brushes and mallets to experience & experiment with, Meinl Deluxe stick bag vs those cheapie pencil case of yore like things , my choice of a spare replacement Sound Custom Pro 20/14 Steel Snare and a complete set of Remo Emperor Tom skins w/bonus Ambassador skin plus a complete fusion set of Vic Firth Drum and Cymbal mutes, a complete 5 piece set of quality Gator Protechtor series padded drum bags and the myriad of other things like a Gibraltar QR clutch (a 20:20 hindsight must have IMV), Gibraltar mini cymbal stacker extension for my 10" bonus Splash, a Gibraltar drill bit drum tuning key, Evans torque key and other tuning tools, a set of Koss QZ-99 noise isolation headsets to save my hearing along with a large new ersatz drum carpet, albeit Persian rug style I actually preferred decoratively without the specialist drum carpet price tag. The above is in no way a disparagement of Yamaha's excellent SCB as an albeit more expensive but impecible alternative choice -where available. However my rounded assessment of Pearl's EXX Export is that it is an outstanding quality affordable gig worthy performer with pleasing tones which is unbeatable bang for the buck that any beginning or intermediate drummer couldn't not be pleased with. I think even were I professional, just as I wouldn't take a $4k guitar to pub gig venues, this is the set I'd take with me were I playing those sorts of venues rather than a stadium filling figures earning musician. My personal colour choice - Pearl distro in my country at the time could supply any of their full colour range, was the conservative classic Burgundy (Red Wine to the USA market), the only part of my decision I vacillated upon once I had decided upon the Export as I thought the Cherry Glitter in this demo also gorgeous. Two thumbs up for this kit. Just loving the tone of its hybrid Asian Mahogany/Poplar shells, quality of build i.e. bearing edges, ease of tuning and pretty much everything else about it. Well out of the novelty period with my views. All I'll say if is if you think this might be the set for you and stuck in an undecidedly hesitant mindset confused by hypothetical segment spec. or status games, don't be. Thanks Pearl. Outstanding product.
I started my real drumming journey on a silver wrapped Export series in the late 80’s. Never let me down and was rock solid for about 10 years of gigging and recording. The mounts were drilled through the shells in those days and I’m glad they’ve abandoned that practice. For bang for your buck, there’s no other even close.
I had the same problem with tuning my floor toms (14" and 16") so i changed the heads to Evens G2 2 ply. heads. The difference is massive, they really sounds very nice now, and easy to tune.
Tune the floor tom closer to the mid range not low .also understand you wont get an deep sound out of an 14" floor tom. I see so many drummer try to get an super deep sound from an 14 inch as ur floor tom.
Nice video I grew up around those drums back in the 80s played guitar back then. I have the newest version as you do as well. Export in Honey Amber Laquer 22 double bass 8 10 12 13 14 16 toms. love it. Black Remo Emperor batter heads and Black Ambassadors on the bottom side. Ludwig 402 snare with a Ambassador X Batter on it. Both Bass drums have EMAD batter heads and no pillows inside. Tell ya what for a cheap kit and some good heads can't go wrong the the Export. Again nice video really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
I play this exact kit in 12/13/16/22, paid 260$, slightly used. The finish looks great on stage, I have Emperors on the toms and an EMad on the bass. They sound well rounded, punchy, with a medium decay. Very good for miking, they work best in a medium to low tuning. If you crank them up too high they lose projection and sound a little flat. When the shells are exactly round and the edges are clean drums will sound well. The snare is OK, but lacks a little punch. It's good for funky stuff, and even for jazzier things. I don't play it, I have a 6 1/2. But all in all, this is a very good value. It definitely does not sound like a beginners kit. I played gigs with it, it held its own very well.
Just got my kit. you're totally right about the 16x16, tried to work with it with various heads and tuning. I just can't get on with it, so I've purchased the 14x14, which is much more tuneful and manageable.
My initial thoughts on the cymbals were very similar. Heard them in person once and it was dreadful - but under microphones they're acceptable. I agree with your assessment on the floor tom and the kit in general.
This is a really impressive set . I have 2 pearl export sets from really early 2000s but this looks a bit improved . I'm probably gonna get a 3rd pearl set
I just bought the special edition Pearl Export 22 6 piece in White Limba from The Drum Depot in Cardiff. This has an extra floor Tom and Sabian B8X cymbals which sounded a lot better by comparison in the shop. Still packed in bubble wrap but looking forward to setting them up. Thanks for the review. Regards, Bob M. South Wales
I am not in the market for a new kit and would certainly not go for Pearl if I was but i must admit you are providing with the best reviews on youtube so far . To the point , nice editing and visual quality. The perfection would be reached if you tried out kits with different heads on or different tuning but i reckon the amount of time needed to do so. I would also like to hear the kit through room mics but then again i am being picky. Great Work indeed, you got a new subscriber.
I just bought Pearl set, if you are a pro drummer buy the 5K worth, hi end Mapex or something, but Mapex is #17 and Pearl still at #1 followed by Tama, #4 Gretsch but for a newbie like me I am happy with it. Most review said this Pearl are good when you hear it from a recorded files, for me that is what matters, on stage I rather have the audience hear the one from the amplified sound systems than the actual drums sounds which makes it very pleasant to human ears.
Well done review. The kit is good for basic uses, and does sound ok with quality 2 ply heads like emperor clears. That being said, I do find them a little too dull and would probably opt for a more tonal kit like the Vision maple or birch.
I have a pearl exr export series 6 pc and ive had it for 15 yrs and she sounds great. It came with zbt zildijan cymbals but they had to go lol i bought A customs for her and she's singing. Ive played many shows throughout the yrs and ive had drummers from other bands shocked about how good i got them to sound. One of the drummers was Rocky from Roses Unread. He has DW's with A customs. Check them out on TH-cam.
I'm slowly building my own kit. I've already bought a snare, a 12" Tom and a 16" floor tom. And I bought an 8" tom for only 30€ Now I'm saving up for a 18" kick drum and a 14" floor tom. I'm gonna change all the drumheads to Evans Calftone's because I like jazz. I hate clear drum heads.' For cymbals I'm looking at vintage Pearl Cymbals from the "Wild" series; they actually sound pretty good and they are affordable. I also would like to have a set of Zildjian L80 (low volume) cymbals but they are pretty expensive.....
These sound pretty damn good, especially considering it's still got the stock heads on it. Definitely going to be an improvement over my fucked up Ludwig Pinnacle from 11-12 years ago lol
Agreed. I had a premier artists birch and it sounded too brittle. My former PDP had bad bearing edges so I couldn't tune it. Regardless, pearl has better quality control.
Want to buy drum kit for my son. He is a beginner and 10 years old. I wonder this kit or the Tama imperialstar. The drum teacher of my son would choose the Tama for the better sound. What is better and why? Thanks.
Wannabe fashionable idiots will always cluelessly chant popularity seeking nonsense. Fortunately some of us are capable of making our own judgments without being diverted by their deafening noise to signal ratio.
Hard to sell these on the second hand market, as it’s flooded with them. Huge sellers a few decades ago. For similar money, I think the Gretsch Catalinas sound better.
The drums themselves actually sounded surprisingly good here, although I think you were way too gentle on the cymbals! The hats you could get away with, but the crash and ride were utterly dreadful.
zephooo The original Pearl Export series drums that were made in the 1980's and 1990's were better than these new ones that are out now in my opinion. I miss the old drumkits with the long tuning lugs that came with it. The tom toms were also much bigger too.
I bought one everything is awesome except they started going back to pearl entry level cymbals. I wish it came with sbr's even if they aren't the creme de la creme. Feel like they wont be to horrible compared to the tin foil I found in my box.
I'm looking for a drumkit , can u all give me some suggestions please, the pear export does sound really good , but can someone please be so kind to help me and point out other accousic drumkits
That`s why japanese brands had total percussion world wide market control, stunning, open, agressive attack, even with stock Remo/Pearl heads. You can play it in a big gig, openone o a big bar stage as well , and nobody would realise that the kit is an entry/level/student/semi pro player budget oriented, nobody ind the audience, that`s for sure. It matches and in some areas, surpasses my own upper level Premier Cabria 2001 rock sizes kit, made by asian mahogany as well. Amazing.
I have superkick 2 heads on my export kick and it sounds exceptional. The toms, are meh and the snare is ummm not great. Overall killer for the price but save up for a proper snare
Blake Gowan I like Pearl Export series from the 1980's and the 1990's. To me those were better than the new drumkits that they have today in my opinion.
Uhh, I live in Japan and I see these drums in thrift stores all the time!! I can get these sets for $100 to#150 bucks!! Uhh to make them great?? Strip them down remove the wrap and then fill the grain, prime them and paint them with lacquer and clear coat them! Bass drum😮?? Find a friend with a table saw and take 3 or 4" off the drum and rework the bearing edge!! One thing I don,t like about modern drums is the deep bass drums! They are one trick ponies!! Bass and punch only!! Hard to balance the character between the toms!
en plus c pas sympa de mettredes cymbales bas de gamme pour une batterie d'entrée de gamme. donc pour lui on sort pas les bonnes cymbales pour une batterie pareil ? c pas commercial tout ça ...
MP what damage did you do to your hearing that caused you think this cheaply made poplar shell floor tom sounds the same as a masterfully crafted DW high end tom? You’re barking mad
@@zenoncastro1809 DW just generally sound flat and unappealing at least to me. I cant understand how anyone think they sound good on their own (under mics they sound great). While DW has the best looking kits, they have far from the best sounding kits IN MY OPINION.
I agree, the most embarrassing kit on the market. Even the new ones are bottom entry levels. There are many maple kits available for half the price. Not even a decent toy.
well it really depends. some drums sound better with rings and some dont and even if you copy their tuning scheme, it might not sound exactly as your kit. in my experience, just "research" on different tuning videos already out there on the internet and try their tuning scheme to some degree and from all the tuning videos you've watched, you could come up with your own tuning scheme derived from others. hope that helps. :)

I used to play and export Kit along time ago, but I didn't buy cymbals with it, I picked out my own cymbals, it was a good basic kit for the money
These reviews are well presented and refreshingly honest. The Export continues where it left off, top quality at an affordable price point.
I play Yamaha but have to admit this kit sounds good. Put some Remo ambassadors on there and that is a good kit.
That’s exactly what I did when I ordered my set…I ordered new ambassadors top and bottom for them too 👍🏻
@@bpml1969 nice!

The best way to tackle the 16” is either an Evans Hydraulic batter, or a 16”EMad batter
so good kit for start playing on the drums!
My initial thoughts on the cymbals were very similar. Heard them in person once and it was dreadful - but under microphones they're acceptable. I agree with your assessment on the floor tom and the kit in general.
I am planning on buying this kit the studio version probably in the same colour although the do it in silver and electric blue. Good review!
Found one of these on gumtree that comes with zildjian cymbals! Only for £575. Really hope I can have it.
This is a really impressive set . I have 2 pearl export sets from really early 2000s but this looks a bit improved . I'm probably gonna get a 3rd pearl set

great drums. my first kit
How does the Midtown's shells quality compare to this one? Wood and toms hardware (lugs, legs, etc.). Thanks!
Pearl have always had a great bass drum sound. Too many bass drums sound like shit.
Agreed. I had a premier artists birch and it sounded too brittle. My former PDP had bad bearing edges so I couldn't tune it. Regardless, pearl has better quality control.
So true, I think every Pearl I've played has had an awesome bass drum
Love my pearl export exl lacquer. Fantastic
nolly! can you like profile that kind of kit and put it in GGD? i think it would be cool
Want to buy drum kit for my son. He is a beginner and 10 years old. I wonder this kit or the Tama imperialstar. The drum teacher of my son would choose the Tama for the better sound. What is better and why? Thanks.
What would be the recommended height of hi hats, ride and crash cymbals from the floor? I just bought the Export set and got my cymbals today.
Don't listen to this asshole. There are tutorials on how to setup a kit. But it also just goes down to your preference on ergonomics.
1:47 pretty sure that's drum beat for Stevie Wonder's Isn't she lovely.
That kit sounds great for a lower priced model.
These drums get too much hate! With good tuning and playing ability they can sound great and this video is a great example. Great playing, btw!
Wannabe fashionable idiots will always cluelessly chant popularity seeking nonsense. Fortunately some of us are capable of making our own judgments without being diverted by their deafening noise to signal ratio.
Yes they sound great. I wouldn't waste money on super high-end drums anymore except for maybe a really cool finish I'd have to have.
Definitely . I have pearl export in mirror chrome . I love it . The tom mounts used to be kinda shaky but they are greatly improved
What's up with the electric sparkle blue color?? I cant find that color no where !
which is better, the Export or the Decade?
export or decate ? why ?
I have acuarians heads on my pearl export and sounds great
I find a lot of tension rod to match with pearl export do u know where to buy tension rod exactly shape of pearl export?
What is the length of the kick drum in this kit??
Hi Ethan, it's a 18" deep. Many thanks for watching, best wishes, DR.
How are those drums tuned?
I was not expecting NOLLY to be selling me this kit!
I was so surprised lol. I had to do a double take because both guys were bald, wearing glasses and a white shirt. Quite the transformation!
Very fair assessment
Sounds much better than the drum I had in 1989....
Moongel on the floortom will help
Gostaria de saber o nome da cor dessa batera que eu vi nesse vídeo quero minha bateria dessa cor que está no vídeo
Hard to sell these on the second hand market, as it’s flooded with them.
Huge sellers a few decades ago.
For similar money, I think the Gretsch Catalinas sound better.
Roy Beckerman how much are they going for??
Daveyboy
Well under a thousand dollars.
Amen
Great video, great drums at this price. Cant decide on these or stage customs, any thoughts anyone?
Yamaha stage custom drums, man! All birch drum kit!
The drums themselves actually sounded surprisingly good here, although I think you were way too gentle on the cymbals! The hats you could get away with, but the crash and ride were utterly dreadful.
Never use brass cynbals, always go for b20. It is a byblical rule for drummers.
I have sbrs they suck but i dont have enough extra money to get rid of them
I want this tune, how can i tune like this?? Please kindly help me huys
Thank you
Use your own ears👍🏻
this or the pearl decade maple?
Pearl decade maple because of toms 😊
nl.mattie games The Decade is a completely different league, if you have the Money, go for the Decade.
@@zephooo9345 What do think is better? the pearl decade Maple or the gretsch Catalina club
nl.mattie games They are pretty similar to each other, i would go for the Decade again because the Gretsch has less toms.
zephooo The original Pearl Export series drums that were made in the 1980's and 1990's were better than these new ones that are out now in my opinion. I miss the old drumkits with the long tuning lugs that came with it. The tom toms were also much bigger too.
Gostaria de saber a cor dessa bateria
Just bought mine
How much is this kit in USD
google says 649
The price went up for 1000
I bought one everything is awesome except they started going back to pearl entry level cymbals. I wish it came with sbr's even if they aren't the creme de la creme. Feel like they wont be to horrible compared to the tin foil I found in my box.
Get the Wuhan Traditional 3-piece Cymbal Set to pair with your kit. They sound great for how much they cost.
Wish my old export kit sounded like that lol 29 years ago
I'm looking for a drumkit , can u all give me some suggestions please, the pear export does sound really good , but can someone please be so kind to help me and point out other accousic drumkits
I love making drum covers mapex horizon
I own exactely this kit in that color
gonna buy one tonite 😎
I love it....i love the mine.....for me the better drumkit...in this .kind.....
Grand dad rock in them drums
That`s why japanese brands had total percussion world wide market control, stunning, open, agressive attack, even with stock Remo/Pearl heads. You can play it in a big gig, openone o a big bar stage as well , and nobody would realise that the kit is an entry/level/student/semi pro player budget oriented, nobody ind the audience, that`s for sure. It matches and in some areas, surpasses my own upper level Premier Cabria 2001 rock sizes kit, made by asian mahogany as well. Amazing.
When the jazz beats come out, so do I
well, actually, it sounds better, than I expected. especially the cymbals
i had that set of sbr s and it was kind of awful. but hearing it through the signal chain, twas surprising
With some better heads on it a great sounding kit!
I have superkick 2 heads on my export kick and it sounds exceptional. The toms, are meh and the snare is ummm not great. Overall killer for the price but save up for a proper snare
Great kit for that money
This proves Nolly can mic up and eq any kit to sound fantastic.

cheap cymbals for a cheap drum ?
with drumhead made in china.i buy a snare recently and the sound is horrific with the head made in china. i must change it to a real remo
The remo UT/UX (Taiwan) heads have all the musicality of a sandwich bag.
I was not expecting to see nolly here...
Vsauce is doing drum?
slap some new heads on, then test!!!!!!!!
All else being equal (quality heads and tuning) I'm simply after the fattest sounding tone from a kit for the money.
I love Pearl....but the resale on this kit is a joke.....its bad. I would not buy one of these new.
It's a dam shame what any equipment is worth used. You pay $400.00 for a cymbal and your lucky if you can sell it for $100.
Blake Gowan I like Pearl Export series from the 1980's and the 1990's. To me those were better than the new drumkits that they have today in my opinion.
You can pick these up second hand for a couple of hundred. Why? Because they are crap. Pearl have great kits but this is not one of them.
@@Hotters9060 I’m still playing a 1999 Pearl Export kit, and I would stack it up with any high end kit sound wise.
Não tem nenhuma reduzida so veijo baterias com surdo no lugar dos tons
Uhh, I live in Japan and I see these drums in thrift stores all the time!! I can get these sets for $100 to#150 bucks!! Uhh to make them great?? Strip them down remove the wrap and then fill the grain, prime them and paint them with lacquer and clear coat them! Bass drum😮?? Find a friend with a table saw and take 3 or 4" off the drum and rework the bearing edge!! One thing I don,t like about modern drums is the deep bass drums! They are one trick ponies!! Bass and punch only!! Hard to balance the character between the toms!
I really like you
Your very talented
Pearl have many great kits, unfortunately this is not one of them. They sold a lot because they are cheap.
en plus c pas sympa de mettredes cymbales bas de gamme pour une batterie d'entrée de gamme. donc pour lui on sort pas les bonnes cymbales pour une batterie pareil ? c pas commercial tout ça ...
Yea that floor tom is ass.
Oh please, it sounds EXACTLY like a $1,000 DW floor tom would sound of like size with the same heads and tuning. EXACTLY!
Dennon
I recently saw Comeback kid's drummer using a rented pearl export. It's all how you tune it, I'd throw on an EC2 and a g2.
I have a pearl export, love the toms and kick, but the snare sounds like a small garbage can...
its not a drum its a toy
I agree, the most embarrassing kit on the market. Even the new ones are bottom entry levels. There are many maple kits available for half the price. Not even a decent toy.
@@markkelly8066 WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMEND IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE?
These toms sound like boxes.dead tone
How do you tune your drum set like this i use muffling rings pls answer
Led zeppellin
well it really depends. some drums sound better with rings and some dont and even if you copy their tuning scheme, it might not sound exactly as your kit. in my experience, just "research" on different tuning videos already out there on the internet and try their tuning scheme to some degree and from all the tuning videos you've watched, you could come up with your own tuning scheme derived from others. hope that helps. :)
