Honestly, this is one of the best Gradius games solely cause it does a lot more interesting stuff than the games in the core series, one major point being its storytelling. You don't just start in the middle of space and some enemies, you start out with a bunch of other ships, then they get shot down and you're chased by a Core ship out of the blue into an asteroid cave, inside you find an evil statue that you destroy, and then as soon as you think you're back to regular Gradius gameplay, you're *captured* and brought *onto* a Core ship, only to break free and- *None* of this kind of storytelling is in the other Gradius games, and I desperately wish it was. I also appreciate the different themes for each and every boss, the varied and unique textures and backgrounds that aren't just random objects in space... I highly recommend getting this game if you're getting tired of all the other games just being the same thing and referencing the same stuff over and over again.
Konami should compile all of the Gradius/Nemesis/Salamander/Parodius games for a collection!! And unlike their recent collections, they should give you the option of playing the regional variants instead of just one version.
Absolutely fascinating what Konami managed to squeeze into a GameBoy cartridge with such limited storage capacities. I played this game for ages and I loved the graphics and the effects never seen before on a GameBoy, at least by me.
this is way better than nemesis it has more action and adventure into it and its also my favorite gameboy game. got this in Easter 2018 sorry i mean 2016 !
Flawless victory , that took more skill what u did in this game than knocking mike Tyson out without getting hit one time, awesome skills you have, I was waiting to see Easter island statues, that must’ve been the previous version ?
The Bacterion Beast Squadron Is Terrorizing Planet Gradius! Fly The Vic Viper, Stop The Bacterion Beast Squadron, And Destroy The Core In Gradius The Interstellar Assault For Your Nintendo Game Boy From Konami!

The music is better too
Extremely well-said, been singing this game's praises along the same lines for ages, good to see other folks getting it!!
I saw this game in the second grade, only to much later appreciate the cinematics it had unlike some of the other games in the series.
I relayed this countless times in my childhood. Wow. It’s all coming back to me now. Thanks for the upload.
5:25 "zabtom statue"
9:35 coreship engine
12:03 crater core
15:22 "gunwall"
18:31 "unknown enemy"
18:57 "escape ship"
That core ship in the beginning was out for blood against Vic Viper!

That's up to Konami to decide
This game's title has eluded me for so very long. Thank you for returning a childhood name and game back into my life.
I like how they connect each stage, like story telling.
the transition is dope, yes, and the music too
Short but challenging and fun game, it got a nice soundtrack and some nice visuals.
Man, I had many road trips with this game in the back of my parent's van when I was a kid.
Gradius on Gameboy? That's cool!
This is a really polished game!! Impressed.
The music in this game is ridiculously good for Gameboy.
I remember playing this game so much as a kid but never remembering what it was called until I found the series on my Switch classic console games.
the music in this game i swear!!!
Very impressive first time playing this
5:33 Zabtom from R-type 2
Needs to come out on 3DS Virtual Console.

Good play

I don't think the moai are present in either of the Game Boy versions but the original arcade game has one as the third stage as well as later games

This needs to have Nemesis III Game Boy !
Whoa this guy is waay better than 9 year old me
So... Gradius: The Interstellar Assault is the same game as Nemesis II?
Nemesis II: Return of the Hero was the PAL version.
Is this the exact same as nemesis??
This is the sequel to that Game Boy game.
In Japan and the USA this game is called Gradius, in many European countries like Germany its called Nemesis, it's just a different name.
finally a final boss wasn't a brain
