    Actually you're doing just fine for your first track day! Forget about getting passed. My first time I didn't pass a single person. It's a lot to get used to, both the overall track experience as well as the line and techniques. But you did the right thing by not exceeding your limits. With practice and experience the speed will come naturally.

    Hi Doodle, It was great that Kate was with you too, both your first track day. The most important thing is that you enjoyed the experience, it wasn't a race day! it was a great learning experience, and glad to share it with you.

  • @johncourt9580
    @johncourt9580 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Doodle, great to see you on the track with Kate, so this is only your second time and you can only ride at a speed at which you feel safe, and not to endanger others by getting out of control!, a very disciplined ride and you looked real cool. It's not all about speed, more about control which only comes with practice, it looked like a real twisty track!

    We have many "sayings" in bike racing but one is "The harder you try the slower you'll go"
    Translation to that is to relax on the bike, body and mind, don't grip the bars tight, don't make sudden moves, be smooth on brake and throttle and be fluid from one action to the next.
    Also, on the track unlike the road you need to have your eyes looking ahead as far into the distance as you can and not others around you, don't try to second guess others on the track as it will only stress you out, they can see you and will go around you if they are faster so just hold your line, keep it smooth and have fun.

    3:45 That's not your tires being "beat up", that's from you riding over what's called "tire marbles", which are pieces of shredded tire from soft track tires that basically shred themselves as they are used. This means you were likely riding outside of the right racing line, or you crossed over the outside of the line to get on or off the track. This is why your tire became smooth again, because it wasn't from your tire in the first place.

    • @DoodleOnAMotorcycle
      @DoodleOnAMotorcycle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it’s what happens to everyone’s tires at this track.

    • @nunyabusiness896
      @nunyabusiness896 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Yes, because they pick up marbles too. I wasn't insulting you, I was saying you picked them up when you went off line at some point, possibly going into the pits as you will have to go off line to do that. I have quite a few track days in various vehicles on many different compounds, those big chunks weren't from your tire wear, it's marbles sticking to your tires. Tire wear, at its worst, will generally just look like fuzzy rubber, those big chunks are always marbles and that's why they clean up so quickly/easily when you drive the tires on a normal road.

    Awesome! Keep it up girl! BTW it was nice to meet you this summer at TWO. I'm going to Barber this coming Monday for a track day. I hope I don't freeze my nuts off, but I can't get enough of the track. So many things I need to get better at. Probably the biggest is braking. I tend to brake way too early coming into a turn and that's mostly due to fear of going too fast and loading the front end too much. Anyways, ride on!

      MotoPilot Next time forget the brakes completely.
      Doing that you will give yourself more time to concetrate line, body position, vision, throttle.
      Brakes kill the speed and throw you off the balance and makes cornering a lot more difficult.

    Love your vids. One of the things I like the most is you're self-effacing humor. You obviously took it seriously, without taking yourself to seriously. You obviously had fun. So what was the reasoning you passed on the Road Atlanta?
    Keep riding and keep it real.

      Road Atlanta is more expensive, longer, has blind corners, etc. Not bad features, but maybe not the best place for a first track day. Talley is almost flat and easy to learn because it's short

      I know nothing about either, so thanks for the info. I'd thought about taking a riding course, like Keith Code's or California Superbike. I know there's one i Atlanta and I'd heard there was one in Talladega. The latter sounds like a better beginner place.

      Opi from Caylor Made - who has about 100K miles of experience on Tally, Road ATL, Jennings, and any other track I could find not too far from Atlanta, highly recommended it for a first timer. I think Redspade, also an avid track rider on the tracks on the east coast, recommended it for first timers too

    You have to start somewhere, I would also look into N2 trackdays and Trackday winner as well. Roebling Road is a great track to start on because it teaches cornerspeed and there are no heavy breaking areas.

    First time at a track I could not get over 2nd gear. But this is not the important part. You need to grow and get comfortable with the bike there and the setup. Get the suspension and tyre pressure setup help from track or bike schooling assistance. This will set Your basics to a safe level and You can then get faster and more precise at a better pace.
    And stay safe. And have fun. Definately have fun.

    Your tyres weren't beat up. Your tyres picked up rubber from the track left by other bikes. That's why it cleared up nicely on your mountain riding.

    Awesome vid Doodle! (why is your name the same as a boy's favourite anatomy).
    Those street tyres sure get punished on the track, makes me wanna cry.
    You seem surprisingly well adjusted and must be very popular.

    Ha! Good video. Love seeing new riders come along to the track! 4 years in myself. Little Tally is the worst track in history. If you thought that was fun, please try others around you. I HATE Little Tally....Road Atlanta and Barber are amazing but very different tracks. Jennings is a lot of fun too. Good luck and I'm sure we'll see you next season!
