  • After two years and 35,000 miles of use, here are my thoughts on the BFG KM3’s. Between thousands of miles off-road and tens of thousands on road, I go into detail on how they perform and hold up to an overlander’s lifestyle.

I bought a 2017 4Runner in 2020 that had 42,000 miles on it, and had km3’s. I don’t know how long the tires had been on the vehicle but they were not new though they did have lots of life left in them. It’s now 2024 and they are going strong. Some highway road noise but nothing intrusive. I haven’t had any issues with balance. They’ve been pretty good on wet pavement here in Oregon. Every once in a while the traction control will chirp at me but not very often. They’re great off road, no real problems in the snow we get (usually Les than a foot) and they still have plenty of life left in them. I’m curious to see if a lighter, all terrain tire would be a little quieter and maybe save on the mpg’s but they’ve been so good to me I’m having a hard time deciding because I would be perfectly happy buying another new set of km3’s when these wear out.

I recently changed my tire setup to 34in Yokohamas. I did so because the Geolandar MTs are significantly lighter than the KM3 size equivalent. Still would recommend the KM3 to anyone considering them, but I did want to account for rotational mass and unsprung weight when going up a size. Thanks for watching!
