I've owned a 2013 LT 1.4 6 speed manual hatchback for about a year now. Amazing little car, does everything I need it to do and puts an enormous smile on my face every time I drive it.

Spitfire599 I have the 2014 sonic rs 6speed manual with zzp performance upgrade and a typhoon k&n cold air intake and like you every time I drive always a smile as well :)
@@djinkentertainment how much more power are you getting with those mods? I'm curious because I like the Sonic but I'd like a car that's a little more fun with it's acceleration.
With reliability that would make Toyota jealous!

Great review as always! Picked up a 2015 Red LS Hatchback 1.8 automatic with 5k miles (a repo/like new) and upgraded with custom alloy wheels and tint and blacked out badging all for under $11.5k last year. Love my ‘15 Chevy Sonic!!!!

@@toyoscio I purchased my 2020 in February. Dealer was talking about getting 2021's on the lot in the coming months. Can confirm, not discontinued.

Pretty sure it’s confirmed to be discontinued now. I had a 2013 and Chevy just can’t compete with smaller cars besides maybe the Spark.
I have a 2014 LT Hatch with the 1.4 Turbo and 6 Speed Manual that I bought new for $16.5k in 2014. Just turned over 60k miles on it and all is good - have a second set of wheels with Nokian winter tires, put a rear trailer hitch on and it's been doing well. A/C stopped working this week but hopefully it's a sub $200 fix. Since it's paid off, I have just liability insurance, about $30/mo. Gas cost with my 40mpg lifetime average and relatively low driving is just $60/mo. Nice low cost transportation for years to come - quite happy with it and I think it is aging well in terms of style.

I have the 2015 Sonic LT hatchback, have had it for 2+ years now. I still love it. Trouble free. Take care of it, it will take care of you.
The feature I find myself most often thanking Chevy for is the hill assist as I live where you're always going up, or down. It's been invaluable at times!
The only thing that I find disconcerting is that it is too light for winter driving, an easy fix though. I added 80 pounds of weight to the back, pretty much right over the tires and it's made a huge difference in stop-ability on slippery roads. Gas mileage is great, which is a good thing considering you may want to drive more often, just because this car is so much FUN to drive!
In short, I love this car - she's a Keeper!!

Great review!!! I picked up the RS hatchback 2018 at the tail end of 2017 and I love my car like nothing I've ever loved before!! So much fun to drive and extremely comfortable to be in for extended periods of time. Feels like a drift car and acts like a rally car. I'm surprised I haven't been pulled over yet!! ;)

I think you quoted the 0-60 on the 1.8 base engine. The 0-60 website quotes low 8 seconds for the 1.4 turbo manual.
Wish you would've reviewed a manual vs a automatic since you already reviewed a automatic one for 2017..

Is the Sonic a Spark with bigger engine? Looks like it.
I like it because of the naturally aspirated engine, hard to find those now a days.
Richard Petrus lower gas mileage than the turbo but one less thing to go wrong.
you are right but if you dont drive a turbo like your foot is made of lead, turbos arent that bad
Build quality MUCH better than ANY Toyota!
@@TheOzthewiz I had a Sonic and have a Corolla XSE and I can say my Sonic felt way cheaper in build quality. All the plastic and that rubber air deflector are not quality. My XSE interior has leather trim and soft touch materials on the dash.
Anyone have an issue with the "service rear camera" at the top when first putting it into reverse? It disappears quickly though and everything looks fine while backing up.

Can some one PLEASE answer a few questions. I have canadian 2017 sonic turbo LT new at dealer before it was bought dealer added 17 wheels. So does that mean I do not have the sport suspension ? Also according to my car features and Canadian brochure only sedan gets heated steering wheel. Why. Exact same looking steering wheel. And seem videos when car is turned on by remote the check Mark shaped light on each head light comes on and flickers. My just comes on solid. I have the factory window sticker and dealer printed out details on my car. No info on any of these three topics.
I have a 2017 Sonic RS hatchback. At least on the US version, you cannot get a heated steering wheel on the hatchback. I cannot fathom why that is the case. I called GM after I got the car and nobody could explain why that was the case. They said they would check and see if my steering wheel could somehow be replaced with a heated one and nobody ever got back to me. I really didn't think they would so I go to work with heated seats and an ice cold steering wheel.

+Ishan Modi Shifter in GT is better with better acceleration and much better visability. The Z will be a million times more reliable tho with those amazing Recaros. I'd pick the GT personally tho but both are awesome cars!

Ishan Modi everyone & their mother has a mustang. If you're going to drop that kinda money on a car I'd go for something different, get the 370, especially if you can get the nismo! Jealous!
I would rather have a 2019 Sonic LTZ with 6-speed manual, of course!
I bought a 2017 Sonic RS LT. I love the car. One thing that I don't like is gas mileage is off from what is stated by Chevrolet.
This is compounded by a very small gas tank. One other thing, you cannot opt for a heated steering wheel on the RS hatchback. I think it is rather dumb that the car has heated seats but does not have a heated steering wheel and you cannot get one.(hatchback only).
This must be THE only car sold in the US where the automatic transmission equipped versions get WORSE fuel economy. But at least the automatic transmission is not a CVT or a bad example of a dual clutch automated manual like the Ford small cars.
BTW, a Sonic Premier with a manual transmission must be a true automotive unicorn as an LT or an LS is very hard to find with a manual transmission.
Howard Kerr Love my 2015 sonic rs Yeah you’re right Gas mileage sucks on these cars I’m only getting like 275 miles to the tank and probably my best that I’ve gotten on the highways 30mpg and 19-22 city

Not sure why there is a 9.7 rated for 0-60. My 2014 with the same 1.4L turbo is rated at 7.8 seconds.
Car & Driver had the 1.4L at 6.5 seconds , 0--60!

+Tatler Tom seat was fine and I usually will mention headroom only if there's a problem so for my 6' self there were no issues. 👍

You're good! This one has Android Auto/Apple CarPlay so you can hook up your android phone for Google map navigation, Pandora, etc.
I think I'd rather go with the automatic so I can play with the radio like I usually do!

i have this car, a 2018 chevy sonic premier rs and it’s almost completely stock, engine wise and it gets there in about 5.7-6 seconds

No. I’ve had an Aveo, that car was shit. This car definitely feels much better and improves where the Aveo failed. The Aveo LT literally was bare bones with no luxury options, crank windows and push pull locks so you have to open the doors for your passengers.

For a little more you could get a lot more car with the Cruze. And I'm sure the Cruze holds it's value better. I like the Sonic Sedan better than the hatch. Holy crap a 4 cylinder automatic only getting 25-27 mpg around town? That's pathetic.
I have a 17 corolla with a 1.8 and a cvt. Slow as a turtle it only gets 28 mpg city

Here in Mexico this car was discontinued, now we have the 2018 Chevrolet Cavalier, yes, a 2018 Chevy Cavalier, but this "new" car comes with a 1.4 Litre naturally aspired engine, 5 speed manual or 4 speed auto transmission, the info-entreteamient system is a small 4.0" non-touch screen with horrible image quality, is built a designed in China, is just a crappy Chinese car with Chevy badges

Yes, here you can see a few old's Cavaliers on the road, but i don't think you can see so much 2018 Cavaliers from China on the road in the next 20 years.

Disappointed to see that they went away from the digital speedometer. I think that was one of the cooler things about the car.
The dash looks GREAT, but they need to ADD a temp gauge! I DON'T need a "light" that tells me my engine is overheated, I would like to know there is a heat problem, BEFORE it overheats!
This is the BEST small car out there, hands down! When the Japanese saw this car, they threw their rice bowls in the water! This car is made in America, for Americans, by Americans! Great job, Chevrolet!!
Eh screw it! Might as well get a Cruze Hatch. More room, better fuel mileage, more horsepower, and more torque. Yeah it’ll cost more but it’s so worth it
EagleTalon 97 I don’t know. Cruze is decent but price ambitiously. You can option it up to around 30k which is kind of ridiculous. This might be a better value.
