    Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Hi Rev, welcome to Ireland I hope the weather is kind to you - I live in Kildare which is the to the east of central Ireland and being of a similar vintage I have gained inspiration for my hiking in Ireland and the UK from your trips. Deepest respect
You may seem to be alone on the trail but your god, friends and family are never far away. Take care and enjoy 🙏🚶🚶🚶🙏

Thanks Paul. You live in a very beautiful country. I have thoroughly enjoyed walking the countryside of Ireland.

Really enjoyed this my friend, what beautiful landscape and scenery. Must of been semi emotional to walk where your ancestors most likely have. The history of the land goes so incredibly far back.... great job!

Thanks. Around every turn it seems like that there is some historical reminder. Perhaps maybe my ancestors walked in the same steps that I am walking in now.😁

Outstanding! More like watching a movie than TH-cam video. Is this “real time” (September) or did you hike earlier? The scenery is so pastural and green. Nice to see a solo woman hiker. Looks safe and no worries about bears, snakes or other….just sweet 🐑 sheep. You are so right (at the end you spoke about cherishing every day) esp at our age. I applaud you for being out there hiking in another country- what an experience 🥾

@TheHikingRev apparently, doing anything toilet, and certain other interspecies relations ([interactions, ] species dependent), are major triggers for bulls to charge humans. Almost all livestock/ungulates(4-leg, hooves) get spooked by bicycles, but you are not bicycling, nor do you have an external frame pack on.

Kerry is beautiful but only one of the diamonds in Ireland, West Cork, Connemara, Sligo, Donegal, The Mournes, Wicklow, Tipperary and more offer stunning walks. The Camino (pilgrim walks) might interest you too. St. Declan's way, Tóchar Phádraig (St Patricks Way), St Kevins way, St Finbars way, Cnoc an dTobar and Cosán na Naomh all worth doing.

Very nice reportage, as always. Beautiful landscapes, like I remember from last years trip. The name "Hungry Hill" seems to stem from the great famine in the 1850's. Moving further towards North you will probably encounter the ruins of several deserted famine houses and villages. Maybe your ancestors have lived in one of those then.

@@TheHikingRev Ireland had a dreadful famine period lasting several years in the 1850-1860's due to a fungus destroying potatoes. Then rural people relied almost exclusively on potatoes as a food source. About one million people starved to death and two million people emigrated to the United States and also to European countries. The Irish population has not fully recovered since then up to today.

There is little threat from the wildlife in Ireland. There's nothing that's going to try to eat you other than mosquitos. There are no snakes - legend has it that St Patrick drove them out. However, you need to make sure that you treat any water as liver fluke can be left behind by the sheep. Also, take care if you're in fields with cows as youngsters can be a bit frisky and cows with young calves can be protective.

I live in Ireland but am from Scotland. You should check Scotland out for its trails.
We have the right to roam there so can camp anywhere the outdoor access code allows. Ivee found camping a bit more problematic in parts of Ireland.
