the miniature radio-electronics shop at about 3:20 is just about the coolest arts&crafts project I've ever seen! Very nicely done, somebody put a lot of time and thought and effort into that.

Nice you post a video as I walked along with you! I know that to each their own and nice you have a hobby... but maybe learn cabinet building and create old radio looking cabinets for your amps.... There are only so many old radios out there, pieces of history. I bought a tube table radio cabinet from a guy who had gutted 8 old console radios to put CD players in and I had this saddened feeling, yet to each their own. Very nice of you to post this video, fun to see!

Dam, I didnt know you were making those into guitar amps. Good for you.
I actually did that back in 1974 to a RCA table top phonograph and an old superhetrodyn radio ( with 50c5 ) didnt sound that good nut the phono was the better one. 2 6v6.
I thought I was crazy doing it but as years go by I found this was a thing people were doing like yourself.
Good for you. Ill be watching your vidios. Likeing those shows.

WOW! That's a nice swap meet! I may need a road trip from Baltimore to Lansing. Radio guys here are selling all their good stuff on eBay, bummer. I enjoyed your commentary esp. on the radios with the FOUR digit price tags. LOVED those doll house radios, guess those MI winters are long and cold huh ;-)

HOLY CRAP DON"T DESTROY RADIOS TURNING THEM INTO AMPS!! That's like taking a 1959 Cadillac coupe deville and making it into a hybrid vehicle!

At 6:39 into your video, notice the 8S463. I saw this early in the day, and the price tag was 100 bucks. Long story short, I got it for 20 bucks, at day's end. The seller wanted nothing to do with hauling his remaining stuff home and had a liquidation sale! :)
All I needed was the cabinet, and it cleaned up well (Stain on bottom, Howards/wax and some artist paint for a few chips in the photo finish).

These are very beautiful but also super expensive. I just bought Celeston Royal all tube radio for forty euros like fifty dollars I think. It has all wooden body and five speakers and amazing sound. All it takes is change that old worn out power cable which is very dangerous and doesn't fit anymore without some modification and change the end of it and clean that board where tubes and everything else is.

    hi terry
i have an old 50's zenith x323 tube radio(7 tubes) and wondered a couple things
is it possible to turn this into a guitar amp and do you have any advice for doing so?
just bought a pair of gibson guitars and want the vintage sound, lol
i understand it is quite an undertaking but any advice would be great.

    • @S0lidState
      @S0lidState 10 ปีที่แล้ว

I doubt it unless the tubes were the same type used in a designated amp chassis, which means you might be able to swap them out into a tube amp.

This guy comes across as a travelogue host, like Rick Steves or Burt Wolf. He's just enough of an extrovert to bring it off pretty well. He may have something like that in mind - Radio Travels with _________ , and TH-cam is a testing ground? Well, if you can put up with the occasional Internet Lunatic, it's a good idea. Hmmm.. might be worth development; throw in some history and very simple descriptions of radio operation? A compelling mix of folkways, science, and technology.

Man those old german radios looked so much better than the depressing US made radios, I can't think of any other category of products that were as universally ugly as those hideous all american 5 messes.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to have a TH-cam channel because they never answer their fans and a lot won't even give a thumbs up. They lose viewers when giving someone a thumbs up as easy as clicking a mouse. I have a self made rule if they don't have the time to give my comments a thumbs up I don't have time to watch their videos.

The guy with the three little pigs radio and the must be snorting something, $6K, are you kidding me? The chrome on his $3500 stained glass radio is rusty for God's sake, I don't even think they go for that much with good chrome.
