Nice flight !!!!! I have to say that I really enjoy getting to hear your communications where you are controllers. And I think this channel can give all of us pilots a better understanding of what controllers are thinking when we all communicate with them. Nice kinda behind the scenes if you will. Awesome
Love your channel..I am an early riser and watch your videos every Saturday morning..Scared of flying but fascinated by it at the same time🤷♂️ so I am living vicariously through you all haha! Take care!
Was talking to my Buddy Clay Sutton ATC in PTC Ga. says he has worked you many times as you venture down south. Told him how much I enjoyed your Videos.. He told me he has reached out in email chatted with you.. Keep the videos coming.. Safe travels ..
Thanks for a very pleasant diversion ! I’ve been sat here in Manchester England watching The freezing rain bouncing off the windows waiting for your video to be posted. I really enjoy my travels with you ! 😀 Stephen.
Great video. Brings back alot of memories. Got my ppl in 1978 at Vandenberg airport when all there was was 18/36. Know the area very well. Thanks and stay safe.
Great clip! I was stationed at Key West Naval Annex in 1969 with HS-1 ASW Training Squadron. As you turned north from the airport, I was able to see the Annex out your left window... Hanger and all still there. Thanks for bringing me the memories! I totally enjoy watching your clips.
Thank you for the nice compliment!! We honestly never pre-plan anything for the cameras. We just turn them on and do our normal thing. Glad you're enjoying it! :)
Glad you enjoyed it JT. Not sure if you saw the last video (Gulf Coast Swing 4) but we did put some of our island exploring in that video. We'll have some more outside the plane on the next couple. :)
That's correct about the tethered blimp. I lived in Marathon for three years in the early 90's and it was there then too and locals refer to it as "Fat Albert"!
Glad you're enjoying the videos Tom!! Sorry to hear about your health issues. We'll keep making the videos and hope you can get a little enjoyment out of our flying journeys. :)
I loved the video. Been to all those airports flying classified mail and freight in a metro liner. I love that everyone was so savy about the flight too. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks again guys for a great video. Good to see Tampa again from the air. Now that we are in Alabama, miss Tampa sometimes, but not the traffic and all the Snowbirds...
Thanks for the videos, have been enjoying your posts. Not sure where I first heard “hair of the dog” but have been familiar with it for some 30 plus years. Maybe my Navy days, also the blimp tethered in the keys as I recall was for drug interdiction and surveillance down there. I sailed the keys in 1983 and it was there back then. Thanks again for the videos, stay safe and have fun.
Safe flying! Stay warm!Next time you guys do your Gulf Coast swing you should stop in Naples! Really enjoyed this series of videos... Your Channel along with a couple of others has got me back to getting my PPL. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the feedback Bill! If we had it to do over again I should have filmed it with the handheld or turned towards it to get it on the cameras for a bit. It was right at our altitude and is much larger that it looks in pictures. :)
Now now Kevin.. ATC was having a bad day. equipment down... The girl in back was seemingly very knowledgeable .. or maybe I should have known that .. but very nice scenery too.. have a great day.. and keep flying safe. I'll keep watching.
Great video guys, Efrain here and I was born and raised in Chicago now living in Sugar Grove and we have always used the term Hair of the dog when hung over and drinking a beer on Sunday morning to get ready for the Bears game.. As a former navy advanced instructor pilot we used to do carrier qualifications during the winter months. We would always have a navy chief come over and brief the students about the Restricted area and the ballon. I was told the radar is powerful enough to see a 16 foot sci-fi on the south side of Cuba.
Thanks for the information on that Alan! I was thinking along those lines. I'm sure you had lot's of fun down there during the carrier qual's in the winter. :)
Kevin, your correct those blimps off the coast monitor for drug activity concerning water craft and low flying planes using side scan and look down radar. Thanks for another excellent video.
Hello. Not sure if anyone has answered about the balloon you were talking about in Key West. It is a multi faceted balloon used for communications, weather, and radar. There are a few other things it can do, but I am not sure if I should say them on TH-cam. I worked with these types balloons while I was deployed to Afghanistan. I used them to extend radio coverage for the troops on the ground. They are pretty cool and surprisingly larger than you would think. Hope that helps. Love your videos, they have really encouraged me to pursue my pilot's licence. :)
310 Pilot yes, the Keys are beautiful. I flew a 310R years ago. What a great airplane! I’m a B777 Captain for American now. Been living in Key Largo since the late ‘90s. You guys make a great team flying together, it’s evident you both know a lot about aviation and ATC.
Nice flight Kevin. Each time you advance those throttles it takes me back to the day. Cheers mate, I’m now off to the beach in Wollongong, 85kms south of Sydney, Australia. 😎✈️👍🇦🇺
You were right in my back yard. I lived within walking distance of U-le-le and Tampa Armature Works just a couple years ago and have worked a couple miles from there for 20+ years (not downtown, blue collar guy). Live up in Lutz / Wesley Chapel now next to a little airport, Tampa North I guess it goes by. I would have bought you a drink if I knew you were gonna be in the neighborhood. Maybe next time. Enjoy your channel!

On your climb out I noticed Key West doesn't seem to have changed that much since 1974. I went to Navy electronics school there and I met my wife there as well. Left in Feb of 74 and came back in April of 74 as well after reporting to my first Coast Guard Cutter you get married. Smooth flight there but ATC seemed out of sorts but you made a very smooth landing.

Had that flight covered. I think that lady in the back seat must work TPA. I worked at MCF and then first FAA facility was EYW back in the day. Nice flight. The balloon kept an eye on our neighbor to the south as well.
You are correct about the blimp. They run it up at night to watch for drug runners low on the deck. Wasn't sure if it was still in use. Last I saw it was back in 1986 when I lived on Big Pine Key.
Awesome cam setup, great little flight trip, you have to wonder why the dislikes, but hey feel good that you have people that envy you for whatever they don't have. First time watching and love the video, subscribed.
"Fat Albert" there are actually two TARS blimps at Cudjoe Key, according to the Air Force. Both are low-level surveillance systems. One was formerly used by the State Department to transmit TV Marti, an American television signal, into Cuba. The other blimp is used in counter-drug operations and by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), according to the Air Force.
Nice - lunch @ Ulele / Armature Works downtown is awesome...Thanks for the ride along in our airspace (@wave to Ft. Green to the right as you zoom by the parrish power plant)
We always look out for the tethered balloon when we fly into Boca Chica. Very cool to see you guys flying near an area I'm very familiar with. Keep those videos coming! Enjoy Tampa!
It was pretty cool getting to see it at our altitude...that thing is huge. I'm sure you guys have a blast TDY down there...especially in the winter months. What a spectacular view leaving Key West, and you are correct Kevin, those tethered balloons do have radar and are used for picking up drug runners. We have them off of our coastline here in Louisiana. As always--great video and thanks from Cajun Country---GOoo Tigers, wish I had tickets---it will be a great game!!!! I love Key West and could become off the grid done there!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it Randall and thanks for the confirmation on the balloon! I was hoping for a fun game but that was a one sided butt whopping. I'm thinking ya'll will be National Champs here pretty soon. :)
Tonite was the first complete game in my opinion, but we'll see about the rest-----Clemson and Ohio St are pretty damn good!!!!!! You all keep the vids coming---really enjoy them and if you all want a taste of Cajun Country, just come on down!!
I started my flight training three months ago and will be taking the written in three weeks. I was having a hard time communicating with ATC. Your videos have helped me a lot to say the least. I hope to have my license by the end of Jan and plan fly the Baja peninsula in April. Keep the videos coming....saludos.
Glad you're enjoying the videos Fabian and are getting something out of them. Early congrats on your upcoming license! Have fun making your own aviation adventures. One day we will make it to the Baja!
Jamie/Kevin, great flight. I enjoyed the camera panning, you need to do more of that! :-) Also I liked the IFD IFR approach...I couldn't be happier with mine. It is a delight to use! It looks like another trip to Key West is in both of your future! :-) Thanks for the ride! Don
Glad you enjoyed it Don...we had a blast at Key West and I'm sure we'll be back again! I LOVE the IFD's. I was flying in a friends plane with his 530W and I was instantly reminded about how big of an upgrade that was for us. :)
You are right about the balloons. If I understand correctly, they have them along the southern border and near the restricted area at some places in Utah, guess they are looking for illegal flights or security breaches. I saw one in the area 51 area in Utah.
The Blip you saw was "Fat Albert" and there are actually two of them. One is used for drug running detection and the other sends a TV channel signal to Cuba. I was told they no longer operate due to budget cuts.
Really enjoyed your descent through the clouds. I'm sure it was a bit bumpy, but it was beautiful! In September 2017, my wife and I were planning on spending several days in Key West after returning from a cruise, but unfortunately hurricane Irma canceled those plans. But it's still on my bucket list!
Glad you enjoyed it John! It was a little bumpy but not as bad as I was thinking it would be. Hope you get a chance to get down there one of these days...fun spot! :)
Glad you liked it James and thanks for the feedback! Always a struggle (for me) on what to edit out and keep for a manageable video length. I try to keep them in the low 20 min mark. Aviation is tough to capture a flight in less. :)
Glad to be back with weekly videos Bob. Going to be amazing to get our 310 back in the next couple weeks to resume those again. We for sure will plan a Janesville, WI breakfast run again. We'll try to post it ahead of time on Instagram if people want to meet up (easiest way to get info out quickly).
Yes the blimps are used for Drug Interdiction. They have radar and other sensors. They have them on high impact areas. In Puerto Rico they have one on the southwest coast of the island.
I sailed though the Panama canal years ago and saw many of these balloon looking things. They actually resemble the first atomic bomb "Fat Albert" on a hugh cable. I remember thinking if I were smuggling drugs at night, I'd be a bit concerned about smacking one of those cables at night. Hazards of the job, I guess
My Compiliments, there was a good combination between flight management. Jamie looked like Sublien as always. I am early, but I wish you a Merry Christmas and a very good 2020 for all of you. Greetings, Jelle
Wow that looks like fun. Flying from Key West to anywhere in Florida would be cool. Better yet flying to key west would be better. I live 10 minutes from RSW airport. If any pilots watching this video and need gas money, I’ll buy and you fly. Thanks for the video
That shell tanker holds 1000 gallons. Amelia Earhart's plane she went missing in held 1150 gallons. Theoretically 4000 miles.History says she carried at least 1000 gallons. It's hard to believe she could carry that much and if she did it's even harder to believe she could have run almost completely out and ditched....one of her fuel stops on final flight was key west or Miami
Nice flight !!!!! I have to say that I really enjoy getting to hear your communications where you are controllers. And I think this channel can give all of us pilots a better understanding of what controllers are thinking when we all communicate with them. Nice kinda behind the scenes if you will. Awesome

A great twin engine plane, mind & keep it sproosed up & ready for the next great Flight. ... well done to the pilot.
Great video. Brings back alot of memories. Got my ppl in 1978 at Vandenberg airport when all there was was 18/36. Know the area very well. Thanks and stay safe.
I'm a new old pilot and I really appreciate the training we get from your videos contacting all these towers 👍👍
Glad you're enjoying the channel Ron and congrats on getting your wings recently!! :)

I like the way you compliment each other. You're not staging. You're real. Thank you as always for a great episode.
Thank you for the nice compliment!! We honestly never pre-plan anything for the cameras. We just turn them on and do our normal thing. Glad you're enjoying it! :)
Thanks for sharing the flight to Tampa. Wish you could have included more from Key West.
Looks like you all had a great time.
Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it JT. Not sure if you saw the last video (Gulf Coast Swing 4) but we did put some of our island exploring in that video. We'll have some more outside the plane on the next couple. :)
My most favorite plane ever. Ever since Sky King changed over MANY years ago. Still a beauty.
That's correct about the tethered blimp. I lived in Marathon for three years in the early 90's and it was there then too and locals refer to it as "Fat Albert"!
I'm a great fan of your videos . This is another fun one . I'm 70 with sever health problems . And flying vids are my entertainment .
Glad you're enjoying the videos Tom!! Sorry to hear about your health issues. We'll keep making the videos and hope you can get a little enjoyment out of our flying journeys. :)
You are correct on the guess about the Blimp/Balloon. "fat Albert" was another one and it was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County
I loved the video. Been to all those airports flying classified mail and freight in a metro liner. I love that everyone was so savy about the flight too. Thanks for sharing!!!

Glad you enjoyed it! That is a really fun airport to fly in/out of. Hope you get a chance to make it there one day.
"That'll work" . We Pilots are so judgmental of our personal Landings. That was a nice approach and landing yet again!
We sure are. Always in quest of the perfect approach/touchdown. It can be illusive sometimes. :)
You are right about the blimp, we have two of them in Arizona on the boarder.
Thanks for the confirmation!
You're absolutely right on the balloon. It's called TARS - Tethered Aerostat Radar System. Too bad you didn't get that on the video.
Thanks for the feedback Bill! If we had it to do over again I should have filmed it with the handheld or turned towards it to get it on the cameras for a bit. It was right at our altitude and is much larger that it looks in pictures. :)

Sure could tell it was hot coming out of Key West. What a sluggish takeoff roll, didn't want to lift off at all.

Nice video. Thanks for high speeding though the clouds sequence vs just cutting it out!
Glad you liked it James and thanks for the feedback! Always a struggle (for me) on what to edit out and keep for a manageable video length. I try to keep them in the low 20 min mark. Aviation is tough to capture a flight in less. :)
so glad to be watching again .. missed your vids ,,, cant wait for u to come back to Janesville wi.. ..
Thanks for the info Roberto! I flew around Puerto Rico once many years ago but had forgot about that one. :)
Flying the bay rocks, PCM was home, miss it all
I sailed though the Panama canal years ago and saw many of these balloon looking things. They actually resemble the first atomic bomb "Fat Albert" on a hugh cable. I remember thinking if I were smuggling drugs at night, I'd be a bit concerned about smacking one of those cables at night. Hazards of the job, I guess
The view is almost as breath taking as the young ladies in your airplane. Awesome video as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!! :)
My Compiliments, there was a good combination between flight management.
Jamie looked like Sublien as always.
I am early, but
I wish you
a Merry Christmas and a very good 2020 for all of you.
Greetings, Jelle
You mean "sublime"?
Glad you enjoyed it Jelle!! Merry Christmas to you and your family as well! :)
Damn I have trouble entering route info into my nav system in my car. These folks are a great team and the flight turbulence is non existent 🤣
Have shot MANY landings at Marathon ☀️
Gotta LUV them KEYS 🌟💕🌟
Love the line guy fiddling while you get ready to taxi.
I always feel bad if it takes a while when they are standing there but it's not good to rush things in aviation. :)
Ft Meyers approach called you back as PIPER 771BC. You can’t let that slide! lol
Ha ha...demoted. :)
Great as always. Flying seems like it would be relaxing to me.
Glad you enjoyed it Brian! It is very relaxing to me as well. :)
I want to wish you guys a Merry Christmas and I love watching your videos
Wow that looks like fun. Flying from Key West to anywhere in Florida would be cool. Better yet flying to key west would be better. I live 10 minutes from RSW airport. If any pilots watching this video and need gas money, I’ll buy and you fly. Thanks for the video
We miss you guys
Nice job Kevin. Have a great weekend.
Really liked that communication with the Navy operator! Awesome
They have those tethered balloons along the border in south Texas also. Rio Grande valley, near Mission, McAllen etc. along the river.
Thanks for the feedback Art. I thought I remembered several of them along our southern borders at least. Not sure about the other 3 directions.
Thanks for letting me ride along very pretty flight.
You're welcome Joe...glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like your in a great Park all in one nothing like that at Phillips Park in Aurora.
Love Paradaise island, love KeyWest!!!!!!!!!I used to fly from there many times.
Great flight! Happy holiday you 2!
Glad you enjoyed it Glenn...Happy Holidays to you as well!
The handheld from inside the plane is great. A takeoff and landing maybe? Really enjoy the channel
Thanks for the suggestion Ken! I'll get her on that. Glad you're enjoying the channel! :)
