That's sounding good! I'm a composer myself and I always thought since I was like 16 that I wanted to make the credit's theme orchestrated for my funeral haha
That last paragraph always confused me. If Dracula came back every one hundred hears, and Simon Belmont gets called upon “once again” to destroy Dracula, has Simon Belmont been dead for one hundred years too and I’m playing an undead version of Simon? This thought, as a 9 year old, made this game so much better for me.
That's an excellent point. Did Simon acquire some kind of extended lifespan at the end of CV2, maybe? I haven't looked into the canon of that game, so maybe. But I really like your idea here. Why can't the Belmonts have the same resurrection magic as ol' Drac? It would also explain why the Belmonts are never just turned into vampires.
@@RedSpade37They don't have that same power because some of Dracula's powers come from the entity known as Chaos. His ability to resurrect through human malice is one of those powers bestowed upon him by Chaos.
They misplaced the Period after Countryside, should of been after "Once Again" Period... Then start the Paragraph with Simon Belmont, if that makes sense...
Yes, it was a mistranslation from the Japanese version as the previous poster alluded to. Simon Belmont was only called upon once in his generation. Well, technically twice, but that was only a couple of years apart for castlevania 1 and 2. Basically, Super Castlevania IV is sort of a retelling of Castlevania 1 on NES.
It keeps getting more sublime every time I hear it. Definitely better than the original, and that’s saying something considering how amazing the original is.
My top 5 Dracula's themes: 1.- prologue/Dance of the Holy man (Super Castlevania IV) 2.- Overture/Big battle (Castlevania III) 3.- Sons of Satan (Castlevania 2 Belmont's revenge) 4.- Dance of illusions (Rondo of Blood) 5 Nothing to lose/Black night (Castlevania)
Hi! I just want to say that your interpretation is my personal favorite. It keeps the dark and ominous atmosphere of the theme. The other ones are also really good in technical terms, but none in my opinion matches the terrifying concept of having to defeat the literal incarnation of evil. Great work.
This is a perfect adaptation. You elevated the original. If not for hardware limits it would sound like this and you captured it and we get enjoy because of you. What i am trying to say simply is: fucking wonderful job dude. thank you for making this.
This is definitely the best orchestration I've heard so far. I especially love the 1:50 transition that you borrowed from the second theme without outright copying it. It relieves tension without "spoiling" it. Replacing the english horn? Bassoon? on the second theme with the horn section was a really good decision too--it really makes you feel that peril of witnessing an old evil come to life. My only real gripe might be how muddy the organ gets, but that might just be a VST thing. It didn't need to be the epic Hans Zimmer ostinato kind of thing that a lot of mainstream composers like to do and you showed what you could do without it. A lot of people seem to think that an intro to an action game should make us feel excited to kick the bad guy's ass, but Dracula was always meant to symbolize something deep and perverse within ourselves that we can only face with the greatest courage. I think what people forget about the original series is that Dracula is equal parts tragic and terrifying, both an object of horror and of pity. Of all the renditions, this doesn't lose sight of that feeling.
Thank you! Appreciate your comments. I agree, the organ does get lost in the mix, and drove me crazy while mixing. I ultimately just decided to let it go, as it sounded more natural letting it get lost at times. Giving it more prominence in the mix made it more monotonous and ostinato-y, which is fine in the original mix, but didn't work as well with more realistic sounds and a natural hall setting.
Im 44 years old. I was a teenager during the Super Nintendo era. Super Castlevania 4 has been dear to my heart ever since. This Dracula theme has always been my favorite of the Castlevania series.
