I have a theory that for many luxury TH-camrs they purchase these bags to keep their channels relatable to the broadest possible audience. They may like them too, but buying a croc Birkin and wearing a Marc Jacobs tote in the same week… one needs less security when wearing the tote… with luxury these days I think people are concerned to wear their pieces out and about but still love collecting so they wear their less expensive pieces out and about.
If longchamp is good enough for Katherine the Princess of Wales no more said. The leather on the la pliage mini is soft yet hard-wearing The stitching is perfectly done. I love mine it is very versatile an roomy.
Well said! Everytime I carry my le pliage bags, I get a mental image of Princess Catherine carrying hers, especially a photo of her looking so carefree with a matching brown cap. You’ll even see Prince William carrying the totes for her on occasion. These are ubiquitous in every large city I’ve visited, esp in Europe. People know a good thing when they see it.
Yes I have recognised this pattern too. There are some bags that just have such a cult following that even the snobbiest luxury lovers get tempted by.❤
Hi Aaryn, I got onto these 2 brands due to influencers, butcIm glad I did! I use the Longchamps for travel and bad weather and the MJ tites for casual everyday. They are So supple and SO versatile and a classic style, as you mentioned! Woohoo!
I don’t own any luxury items but I’ve heard whispers of a Marc Jacobs x Takashi Murakami collab for his 40th anniversary and if it’s anything like I hope it is, I might be making my first purchase!
This is a great topic! I purchased the Longchamp le panier basket bag in yellow last year. It’s such a fun summer bag. I also have a black le Pliage Neo bag that I use for travel. Funnily enough, I JUST ordered a Marc Jacobs small saddle bag in camel. This will be my first MJ bag. It may end up being too small but I wanted to give it a whirl to try something different.
I don’t own either brand but I do like the MJ tote. I think it’s probably because they are influenced by others having them. You know if someone shows something in a video it’s no time before everyone has it😂. I personally don’t get the appeal of Longchamp but those little bags you have are so cute. Can’t wait to see what bag you got.
I have both a small and a medium MJ tote bag and like them both. The medium tends to work better for me. I carry quite a bit in my bags. I also have an MJ The Cruve Bag and it’s really nice. The leather is quite good and it seems to be made very well.
I think for a lot of people it has to do with what luxury influencers deem “acceptable” in the contemporary realm. If more of the major influencers were purchasing these other styles from the brands you mentioned Ido think more people would buy them. I myself have been influenced to purchase these as well.
Love the MJ tote and Longchamp XS bags. I think TH-camrs influence each other, so they keep buying the same bags, and don’t venture into the other styles. I can’t wait to see what bag you got for Mother’s Day. I need hints 🤔 what color is it? What brand?
I always gravitate towards the Marc Jacob’s tote bag because it fits my lifestyle. I have it in the canvas but I’m considering getting a leather one. I just have to decide what color I want to get. I was curious about the snapshot bag, but it was too small and too stiff for me. 😂
It's a great bag - I love the new camel shade and would pick that if I didn't have the cement already:). They used to have a soft shot that was a little bigger than the snapshot...♥️
Good question! For me it was Minnie 100% who influenced my Marc Jacobs tote bags. I had a large in Argan Oil (gave to my daughter) and two mini or small's in a hot pink and one in a baby pink which I sold. Had to let some things go! I did buy another Marc Jacobs bag that never made it on air, it was kinda like a Fendi baguette. As for the Longchamp XS you influenced me! I have one in leather and 3 in nylon. I also have a beautiful red bucket bag from the Le Foullone line and tons of slg's from that line as well. I think it comes down to popularity and we can't buy everything. :)
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Melinda! It's funny we were influenced by the same person for the Marc Jacobs - they should be paying her 🤣🤣🤣! I think I know what MJ you are talking about - I've considered it but worried it was too small... It's such a small world I can't believe i influenced you - you have such a magnificent collection that I only aspire to have♥️. You influenced me to buy my Le Pliage shoulder tote:). Perhaps I need to check out the Longchamp SLGs 🥰🥰🥰‼️
@@myluxurycloset529 Awe thank you so much Aaryn! She needs to be paid for the MJ and the Gucci key pouch! I watched your videos on the XS over and over and finally Nordstrom brought them back in nylon! Look in late June and December, they have lots of slg's for sale then, I purchased almost all of mine on sale.:)
I have the J bag, it’s a great bag, comes with webbed strap and gold chain, I love it but it’s not pebbled leather which is why I am attracted to the tote bag in fact I’m deliberating on one now. Also love the new pink saddle bag ❤ so basically I’ve been influenced by the great quality and less by social media.
Don’t have any Marc Jacobs. Recently purchased Le Pliage Le Panier - thought it would be something different for summer and it matches my Stuart Weitzman ballet flats. Leather feels nice and straw effect canvas is tightly woven. Decided to purchase a Tumi Voyageur Just In Case Tote over a large Longchamps Tote. Purchased several Tumi pieces over the years on recommendation of a flight attendant - they’ve lasted well but are leather and quite heavy. Just In Case Tote has a back sleeve to slide over suitcase handles and folds into a pouch which can be clipped inside. Hello Catwalk City recommended the Just In Case Tote - she carried her Louis Vuitton Speedy (?) in the Just In Case. Thanks for this informative video - will be checking out Marc Jacobs (Tote and St. Marc) and Longchamps (Le Pliage and Boxtrot) up close and personal.
Hi Aaryn. What an interesting topic. I’m not a luxury TH-camr, but for me, it’s psychological and I’m saying that because I can’t think of any other reason 😂 longchamp has this “simple luxury” aesthetic and the origin being in France probably helps it slip over to the luxury side. The most popular bags aren’t even fancy. High Fashion just has this stereotype of being rooted in European countries. Maybe it is- I am no fashion historian. As for MJ, I actually just like the tote bag the most. The style of it. It’s easy and nothing I dislike about it. I don’t like the handle on one of the duffle bag styles, for example. And another thing, which is not scientific at all-I don’t care for the names being on the other style bags. I was fine with “the tote bag” but to see “the sack bag” and all of the other names printed on is overkill. Completely subjective! You might see me with a duffle one day (the one with two handles) 😂 just my 5 cents. I appreciate your thought provoking topic!
what a wonderful and thoughtful reply! I think you were right about the French roots of Longchamp and I do think that there is something to Marc Jacobs being a former designer at Louis Vuitton… I agree that the tote style just works… But it's weird because I am not a tote girl so why is that the bag that I chose? I think that the bag called "the sack" is a little bit funny ha ha. I agree that the tote and the duffle are the best names out of the bunch :-).
The hype is definitely warranted, just not sure why these particular styles are preferred at the extent they are over the rest of each brand's offerings! ♥️♥️♥️
I use my longchamp but I realize I don’t like the color I bought so I’ll need a different one!😂 with Marc Jacob’s I don’t have a leather one yet. Although I want to, I just haven’t yet!
I first saw an MJ Tote in the wild and loved how cheeky it was (canvas). Started researching them as I loved his work at LV as well as his bags in the mid-2K. I now have 1 large in cherry, 3 medium in cotton silver, cobalt and ganache, 2 small in orchid haze and cherry and finally a micro in forest plus nano in lipstick and cotton silver (all in leather)😂 Longchamp I the pliage in black leather which you have plus the large leather one for travel ❤ in nylon I have 3 in 3 different sizes and colours 😂I always pick them up duty free or on sale. My oldest one is at least 12 years old, she’s banged up but she has travelled the world with me ❤
I don’t own any tote bags (although the limincello color in the micro size is very enticing) but I do have a mini the sack bag in white. It’s very cute but I’d prefer it to have a crossbody strap so maybe the tote bag line would be better for me. I think the reason why bags become popular is a mixture of influence from TH-camrs/celebrities, but also functionality and price. That would explain the love people have for the tote bag and also the longchamp le pliage. I’m someone who only has the le pliage nylon bags for work/travel and to me their leather line doesn’t feel like thick enough leather for the price but that’s just me. Thank you for the interesting topic
@@myluxurycloset529 I might have to. I’ve seen them in stores and was impressed, and the leather does feel like the nice leather of the mini sack bag I have. Always been a fan of MJ, and like you mentioned I appreciate that I can have a MJ bag like the sack for a smaller price tag than LV when he’s also done work at that brand. The vintage MJ bags and a lot of the newer ones would be worth peoples money for sure, but I’m okay with not everyone being into it because it allows the prices to stay low(ish)
