TT currency exchange usually gives the best rate but it worth mentioning that any notes that are cut damaged or have any writing in them will be rejected, been caught out a few times and they check each note thoroughly.
When I go to the bank to get my holiday cash, I specify new notes,no writing, no damage. I check them at the counter and reject any that isn't up to scratch. Avoids problems when I get to Superrich in Bangkok or when I roll up to TT for my Baht.
When I travel to Thailand I tend to do a combination of bringing money to exchange it on the exchange booths on the street and also using an ATM. A handy tip for Australian's, get a ING Direct Saving card and use that in the ATM's in Thailand. They don't charge you a fee and they cover any foreign bank charges charged to your account. They certainly cover the bank charges of other banks when in Australia and I was stunned when I noticed on my statement that any ATM charges from Thai banks were returned to my account by the bank (Note this service is only available if you deposit $1000 Aussie in your bank account every month and use your card for purchases 5 times in a month) Hope this helps.
Yeah mate. TransferWise is Awesome. I am an Aussie living in KL and they give the official exchange rate with minimal fees. Only takes a few hours during a business day to clear from AU to MY account. I transferred 3K AUD recently to Malaysian Ringitt and basically saved 250 AUD with the better exchange rate than the banks offer as the banks use a 6% worse exchange rate.
If you do have to exchange money at Suvarnabhumi Airport (not recommended but sometimes needs must) go all the way down to the bottom level and head towards the train platform and use the exchanges there, you will get a slightly better rate than the exchanges in the main terminal area.
well, i'll have zero baht once i get off the plane at the airport and it will be my first time.. is there some kind of alternative method to exchanging???
@@crs9128 Depends. If you are bringing cash from your home country, it needs to be the newest crispest highest denomination bills with no marks or writing or anything on them. Once you clear customs and immigration take the escalators down to the lowest level and follow the signs for the train. As you walk down that hallway from the airport to the train station there will be money exchangers there. Exchange what you will think you need there until you can get in to town, whichever one you are headed for (Bangkok, Pattaya, etc...). Alternatively, there are ATM machines in the hallway to the train, and if you have a card with no foreign transaction fees and ATM fee reimbursement then you can use the ATMs there.
Phulet will officially open to tourists without quarantee on July 1st, but I don't know about Pattaya. This news has been in The Phuket News and The Bangkok Post. As to changing money, I always use the exchange booths, of which there is no shortage. The differences in the exchange rates are minimal. Also, I always stay at hotels I can trust and keep my money in the safe. I have recentty stayed at the Bayview and Bayshore hotels without any problems. - Thanks for the many videos! 👍
Had an account with Kasikorn for a number of years. Very easy to transfer funds in. I use Wise - formerly Transferwise before recent name change. Rate to transfer in after fees is usually about 0.1 less than going rate at TT who I use for cash conversion and buying US and HK Dollars when traveling. (Haha typed before finishing the vlog!)
I just use the ATM in Pattaya just draw out 20,000 at a time that way the fee is not bad plus with my bank in Australia I get reimbursed with the fee I pay in Pattaya so not bad.
Great info on currency exchange and opening a bank account..I will be there when Australian Government permits international travel again..possibly October.
There was a exchange across from central marina called sabai exchange that had great rates but another casualty of covid. In regards to ATM, get a bank that will reimburse your fees like schwab or capital one. But if you can open a bank acct that would be best rather than in the hotel safe. Great informative video Aloha 🤙🏼
Yet again great video, just nice to know the rates now, it seems to be going up a touch since lockdown...let’s hope we can all get back by November...cheers Trev
TT always seemed the best option for exchanging notes, clean, larger notes are the best option. Ripped, torn, defaced notes will not be accepted I've been using the Krungsri bank ATMs for years and always select the option to let my bank do the conversion so the rate was very good, no fees from my bank, just the 220 baht ATM fee. Establishing a thai bank account via Wise is def the way to go for longer stays. I'll be shopping banks soon. Thanks to Trev and others for recommendations!
After changing money or ATM withdraw always take your large baht bills into a 7-11 and buy something to get change be sure to carry lots of small baht bills as taxis never have change for 500 or over.
I've had a problem in the past trying to change currency which is damaged or has been written on but i agree despite the risks you will get a better exchange rate with cash
Having been to Thailand multiple times for extended periods I am sure you cannot beat Superrich Thailand for the best rates. Located in Bangkok and in the basement of the airport (Suber..etc!) quite often you you have to queue up as they are very very popular.
yes, they are the best. but some places in Pattaya are very close in rate, so unless you are changin 100,000s of baht it is probably not worth bothering about. Nice place on soi bukhao, not far from D apartment. Yellow on the inland side of the street
i was at the super-rich in swampy waiting in queue with a wad of twentys and a girl came up and took me to the side door of the booth and the exchange was done there, maybe she fancied me
I always use TT exchange, in my experience when you change large notes like £50 notes you get a better rate but they never seem to accept the ones that have pen marks or notes that have been written on. Enjoying your videos mate like it when sometimes your squddie sense of humour comes out in your videos.
Western Union, I use the app on my phone and set the receiver to my own name for pick up in cash at a pattaya location. Costs £1.90 per transfer, and the exchange rates are very competitive.
Good vidio thank you again , the best booth i found was the white one in-between areca lodge and the pool hall on soi dianna and they changed marked notes too . Following on , any tips for soon to be expats on best way to handle money between UK and Thailand ? Thanks again 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Suvarnabhumi airport, heading towards bts go to ground level and head down the escalator , all the exchanges are their in one place and pick the best rate. Im pretty sure TT only available in Pattaya but I could be wrong either way aussie dollar is shizenhousen no matter who you go to. Great vid again trev
Had money stolen by a hotel maid from safety deposit box. I talked to the the hotel manager but he said your fault not hotel, etc, etc. Better to take precautions.
I have ridden a bike here in Australia for around 20 years. I won't even think about riding a bike in Thailand, heck don't even think about driving a car in Thailand way to dangerous. The only thing I would drive in Thailand would be a tank or a monster truck for my safety
I am over 70. In good health. I rode a bike all over Chiang Mai and Vientiane, Lao for months. I even beat the traffic jams at times. I rode careful and defensive. No real problems. Just have good lights and a helmet. Check Walk about Wayne in Chiang Mai. But I wouldn't ride it in Bangkok. I also ride a scooter.
Hey Buzzin, zzup man ? Great info vlog, as always. So Thnx in advance. Avoiding ATM's services seems the tip n.1 to me, cuz paying fees x3 seems A BIT TOO MUCH !! 🤣😂🤣 So, since i'm seriously interested about bank account, do you think you may organize a super vlog as you did in the past, this time with a bank employee or even a manager who can explain the first and most important steps and documents a foreigner need to have to open an account ?? Maybe from Kasikornthai since as you said they really welcome foreigners to open accounts to them.... What did ya think Sir ?!? Possible ?
Thank you for your videos its pleasure watching and 2 questions, if I have been vaccinated with the 2 shots do I or will I still have to quarantine for 2 weeks when entering country and so many tattoo parlors to choose any suggestions. Thanks again.
I now use wise. Never had problem, good rate. All the exchanges now for some reason check all bank notes looking for any reason not to exchange the note. Check your notes carefully before living home.
I've always liked TT Exchange. They are all over Pattaya and usually have a rate within 1 baht of the top rate. Beware! There are lots of other exchange booths with a similar color scheme and name, but much worse rates.
Best rates on arrival at BKK airport are the ex booths on same level as the airport link a vlogger on youtube called big fat besty done a very good video on it showing you how to do it other than that i just use normal ATMs with my UK bank cards just draw out large amounts like 10K* baht or more , who gives a hoot if you get stung by a couple of % here or there on fees , but dont use the 7/11 ATMs they are a rip of . good vlog as usual Trev thanks for sharing
Just a question. Those of you in the US and UK who are well into the vaccination program. Do you receive any certification to prove you have been vaccinated. As it looks like this will be required for international travel. Passport endorsements have even been mentioned.
I believe currently you get a card as physical confirmation, and the information goes on your NHS medical record which can be accessed by any doctor (as is the case when you receive any vaccine or treatment here in the UK). So when the time comes - when it is decided by government(s) what format the "vaccine passport" will take (most likely as an addition to the pre-existing NHS app we have on our phones) - the confirmation will be able to be retrieved and transferred/stored in the agreed upon digital format. If it were required right now, you could always just get a confirmation letter or certificate from your GP to travel, as has been the case for many years with things like Yellow Fever vaccinations etc required to visit certain places. There is nothing new here except the terminology: "vaccine passport."
Here in the USA they are giving you a hand written post card that looks like it’s from 1960 🤦🏻♂️ not sure what they are planning for some type of digital proof/vaccine passport, if they are planning that at all.
@@PittsVegas surely that card is just for you to take away, though. The fact that you have been vaccinated will go on your medical record, I'm sure. They do actually take your personal details, right?
we were warned about the ATMs, last trip we took the ATM swallowed & kept my buddys' ATM card. We went in to speak to the teller and they basically told us we were SOL and would have to wait 3-5 days for a tech to be able to return the card.
The thing I love most about Thailand is you can walk up to any Lady, strike up a conversation, ask her out for a coffee or dinner and not be cirrus out, attacked, or having to police called like here in America.
thanks for this vlog, very informative, couple of points i would like to add: Kasikorn have always been easy to use, the one on Pattaya Klang down near 2nd road has some very good English speaking staff, i have also found they will exchange notes that the kiosks refuse (light damage and/or writing only), Indian food.....best for me is Tikka centre opposite the top of Soi Honey, good prices, and very good food. The Avenue, i have heard the main part of the mall has been sold to an Indian consortium and will be converted to an Indian type of Nana Plaza (named Nan Plaza......very clever!)
1)Even K-bank won't usually open accounts for foreigners there on a tourist visa, unless they can prove the need for the account such as a sales contract for a condo or a title deed. I needed to that to open mine - with a 30 day visa exemption. They are however easier going than the other banks that often ask for much more documentation. 2) TT exchange on 2nd road (the HQ) is the best place in Pattaya. They will give a better rate for larger sums. Not much better though. For instance if you are changing $5-10K you can expect a superior rate. Take large denomination notes and make sure the notes are new -both in good condition ( no tears or scribbles) and a recent series. I had difficulty changing series 2004 $100 bills that I had had lying around in my safe for a while. Eventually got rid of them, but was knocked back a few times. 3) Transferwise is good but though the conversion rate is excellent they also have a fee. On larger amounts, it often does not work out cheaper than the money changer. In general, I have always had better rates from the money changers I use - sometimes better than the mid market rate. 4) If you are spending any time in BKK prior to going to Pattaya, changing money at Superrich at their HQ on Rajdamri Rd is probably the best move and slightly better than rates available in Pattaya. For instance, their current Buy rate for USD (large denominations) is 30.70 versus 30.58 at TT exchange on 2nd road. If you are only converting a little at a time this of course may not be worth it , but for large sums in one go it will save you a bit.
@@raoulperez7477 I have heard hundreds of stories about the bank account opening issues people go through. I went there (K bank) with the agent selling a condo and maybe that helped. This was in 2014 or 2015. I also later opened an account in TMB and that required deeds, the blue book, notarized passport copies, lease agreements from a tenant etc. I think it depends on which branch you go to, the attitude of the teller that day and if you have someone Thai to help. Nothing is written in stone.
You’re dead right about room safes, easy to Nick or open......but DONT stash your money in the room, bad bad idea......tip, I always make sure any hotel I stay in has lock up boxes behind reception....your money is totally safe as there’s usually two keys and a manager has to open it with you.
I always go over the counter at Krungsri bank, usually at the one in central festival. You dont have any limits on how much you can withdraw, no fees and the rate tends to be better than other places. I have used travellers cheques in Thailand but not since 2008, I dont know if anyone out there still takes them. I agree with avoiding ATM's but if you do use one you usually get a voucher for a free can of coke in Family Mart lol.
Great video as usual and some really helpful interesting information. Be interested to know if there is any interest gained on holding a Thai bank account or any charges?
I always use the yellow tts. I don't know if it's true or not but a ex pat told me never exchange money at the weekend. The rate is always better midweek. As for the hooters girls. Great eye candy that's about all
not only large notes like US$ 100, but also clean and unmarked as the teller can sometimes reject your note. Interestingly, I have always found Pattaya rates better than rates in BKK. Super Rich in BKK also has good rates, and I rarely go to banks to exchange.
@@Buzzinpattaya let’s say I have a friend who will volunteer his address in Bangkok verbally is that going to be enough ? Trev when you say visa company what do you mean. I’ll arrive in May after quarantine in BKK and want to deposit my cash somewhere for safety
Best rates at the GREEN SuperRich (BKK). When I was with my Thai girlfriend I found Bangkok Bank had the best intrest rates with the least costs. ATM card with Kasikorn was more expensive. Opening a bank account as a tourist with no permanent address or job in Thailand is a hassle I found.
Atm cost depends on vad type of card and bank you have. It differs also from country to country. I often withdraw from atm. If you withdraw 10000bath you have a cost of a few hundred bath in fee. The diffrent exchenge office is aiming on different countries so check many diffrent ones. Some with atms.

I was shocked to find out how many people back at home never realized taking their hard earnt money abroad for better exchange rates. If everyone realized this, our own country would have no choice but to match them.
Really informative vlog Trev what i do every year is use 50 pound notes in good condition they seem to be very strict on that. I always use TT exchange there easy to find and i have awalkabout to see were the best rates are i exchange 1000 pounds a time. But i did not know you get a better rate if you exchange more cheers for that.A very good Indians i go to every visit is Ali Babas just down from soi seven cheers mate have a good one.
TT exchange is very close to the empirical rate. If you are changing very large sums they may shave a couple of Baht this way or that...not very much leeway to work with when they are so close to the 'BULLSEYE".
if you want to help out your own country use the halifax clarity c/c or something similar, ( very cheap pay off card as soon as it appears ) that way if you get 10000baht - 10000baht is transferred from the UK banks foreign reserves. at the moment their are more UK notes outside of UK than in UK. Regarding your question about the possibility of the returning to visit Pattaya wideout quarantine definitely I will consider it but I’m afraid at the moment perhaps is just another rumour. Right now I hear that the cutting the current period of quarantine in 7 days. I believe still too long. Especially if you been fully vaccinated like myself. If you are a regular visitor, open a Thai bank account and use home country online banking to transfer money, you get the TT rate which is better than the booth rate.
If you're travelling to Thailand frequently, best to open a bank account there when you get there through an agency (such as KeyVisa, very helpful) and transfer the money from your account at home to your Thai account via TransferWise. Take cash with you at your own risk, I've had some taken from my hotel safe (not all, but a couple notes, thanks to the cleaners that I've tipped) once so be very careful. I opened a kasikorn bank account with 1000baht. I was given a bank book with the amount recorded. They also gave me a swift number so I could transfer money from the UK. I never bothered but returned to Pattaya 14 months later. I went into the bank and presented my bank book only to be told the account had been closed because it hadn't been used for over 12 months.
I know 1000baht is not much but its still your money, I have a bank account with santander in UK I think I have something like 67p in there, it's been in there for years I would say at least 8 years, and I still get a statement once a year.
Just watching this video for first time...as regards Transferwise is not a "good rate" it the best possible rate ! In short its interbank rates the maximum you can obtain as a retail customer. There is NO other transfer service that gives full interbank...none at all. As such no one should need to bother with another provider
Very true, Transferwise has the lowest fee's & best rates. They are even planning to reduce their rates to 0 in the future. Much better than Old school western Union & PayPal.

Be interesting to see how this all unfolds
Ive always used TT on soi buakhao, if it isn't the cheapest then its close enough to me.
Yeah TT are generally good
Had an account with Kasikorn for a number of years.
Same here mate
I just use the ATM in Pattaya just draw out 20,000 at a time that way the fee is not bad plus with my bank in Australia I get reimbursed with the fee I pay in Pattaya so not bad.
Nice one
Trev u walked past the Casa Pascal if u get a chance next time give it a plug please.
What bank do you use in Australia ?
I do the same thing. Fidelity ATM card reimburses the ATM fee.
Transfer wise is the best I've found upto now easy to use fast transfer and low charge yesterday's rate 42.7
Agreed
Great info on currency exchange and opening a bank account..I will be there when Australian Government permits international travel again..possibly October.
Thank you
There was a exchange across from central marina called sabai exchange that had great rates but another casualty of covid.
In regards to ATM, get a bank that will reimburse your fees like schwab or capital one.
But if you can open a bank acct that would be best rather than in the hotel safe.
Great informative video
Aloha 🤙🏼
Great shout mate
TransferWise (Now renamed "Wise" as you stated) is the best way to go.
agreed
Yet again great video, just nice to know the rates now, it seems to be going up a touch since lockdown...let’s hope we can all get back by November...cheers Trev
Fingers crossed!
I use a Schwab card - 30,000 Baht a day and no fees. Exchange rate usually better than cash exchange rate.
Wow nice shout
Same here
TT always seemed the best option for exchanging notes, clean, larger notes are the best option. Ripped, torn, defaced notes will not be accepted
I've been using the Krungsri bank ATMs for years and always select the option to let my bank do the conversion so the rate was very good, no fees from my bank, just the 220 baht ATM fee.
Establishing a thai bank account via Wise is def the way to go for longer stays. I'll be shopping banks soon.
Thanks to Trev and others for recommendations!
Agreed
After changing money or ATM withdraw always take your large baht bills into a 7-11 and buy something to get change be sure to carry lots of small baht bills as taxis never have change for 500 or over.
Good shout
I've had a problem in the past trying to change currency which is damaged or has been written on but i agree despite the risks you will get a better exchange rate with cash
Yeah me too, was a nightmare
If I can return July 1 and no quarantine, I’ll be there in a heartbeat
Nice one
Good walkabout and topic Trev..I miss chilling out on the beach..I always seem to use TT money exchange, plenty of them around town. I
Good stuff
Having been to Thailand multiple times for extended periods I am sure you cannot beat Superrich Thailand for the best rates. Located in Bangkok and in the basement of the airport (Suber..etc!) quite often you you have to queue up as they are very very popular.
wow thanks for sharing
yes, they are the best. but some places in Pattaya are very close in rate, so unless you are changin 100,000s of baht it is probably not worth bothering about. Nice place on soi bukhao, not far from D apartment. Yellow on the inland side of the street
ProTip: Superich rate varies between branches. An App is available, can check rates at locations
i was at the super-rich in swampy waiting in queue with a wad of twentys and a girl came up and took me to the side door of the booth and the exchange was done there, maybe she fancied me
I always use TT exchange, in my experience when you change large notes like £50 notes you get a better rate but they never seem to accept the ones that have pen marks or notes that have been written on. Enjoying your videos mate like it when sometimes your squddie sense of humour comes out in your videos.
£50 always best rate
I only ever really take 50s but always got rate on any booth or bank never higher in over 20 years
Western Union, I use the app on my phone and set the receiver to my own name for pick up in cash at a pattaya location. Costs £1.90 per transfer, and the exchange rates are very competitive.
Great shout, thank you
Great idea..Especially if you lose all your cards..What type of ID do you need to collect money?Or is it just a code? Thanks
Nice video mate! Cheers! 🍻 appreciate the tips. God, Pattaya looks so quite!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for shout out mate
Suvarnabhumi airport, heading towards bts go to ground level and head down the escalator , all the exchanges are their in one place and pick the best rate. Im pretty sure TT only available in Pattaya but I could be wrong either way aussie dollar is shizenhousen no matter who you go to. Great vid again trev
Nice one mate thank you
If you bring bank notes. Check them so they are clean. If there some spots or if someone have mark it with a pen they won't take it.
great shout mate
really enjoy watching your videos. good to get a face to a video! also makes me remember pattayaaaaaaa
haha cheers although mine is probably not the best face to have to remember hahahahahaha
Had money stolen by a hotel maid from safety deposit box. I talked to the the hotel manager but he said your fault not hotel, etc, etc. Better to take precautions.
Not good mate
Another great video.especialy informative for those who dont live in pattaya, but just holiday here..
Thank you
I have ridden a bike here in Australia for around 20 years. I won't even think about riding a bike in Thailand, heck don't even think about driving a car in Thailand way to dangerous.
The only thing I would drive in Thailand would be a tank or a monster truck for my safety
Agreed
I am over 70. In good health. I rode a bike all over Chiang Mai and Vientiane, Lao for months. I even beat the traffic jams at times. I rode careful and defensive. No real problems. Just have good lights and a helmet. Check Walk about Wayne in Chiang Mai. But I wouldn't ride it in Bangkok. I also ride a scooter.
We are hopefully going over Xmas and New year. Thankyou for your great advice etc! We are more prepared now regarding money! 👍
Have fun
Hey Buzzin, zzup man ? Great info vlog, as always. So Thnx in advance. Avoiding ATM's services seems the tip n.1 to me, cuz paying fees x3 seems A BIT TOO MUCH !! 🤣😂🤣
So, since i'm seriously interested about bank account, do you think you may organize a super vlog as you did in the past, this time with a bank employee or even a manager who can explain the first and most important steps and documents a foreigner need to have to open an account ?? Maybe from Kasikornthai since as you said they really welcome foreigners to open accounts to them....
What did ya think Sir ?!? Possible ?
Yeah great idea mate let me see what i can sort
I second this suggestion. Love to see a vlog on opening a thai bank account Trevor...
Thank you for your videos its pleasure watching and 2 questions, if I have been vaccinated with the 2 shots do I or will I still have to quarantine for 2 weeks when entering country and so many tattoo parlors to choose any suggestions. Thanks again.
Quarantine is likely to be reduced to 7 days soon and poss scrapped 1st July if you have vaccinations. Tattoo coming soon
Can you please do a video on how and what paper work documents are needed to open a Thai bank account, thanks in advance.
Sure thing!
I now use wise. Never had problem, good rate. All the exchanges now for some reason check all bank notes looking for any reason not to exchange the note. Check your notes carefully before living home.
Yeah very good service
Banks & money changers ..... accept only CLEAN & recent dated BILLS .....
I've always liked TT Exchange. They are all over Pattaya and usually have a rate within 1 baht of the top rate.
Beware! There are lots of other exchange booths with a similar color scheme and name, but much worse rates.
Thanks for sharing!
Best rates on arrival at BKK airport are the ex booths on same level as the airport link a vlogger on youtube called big fat besty done a very good video on it showing you how to do it other than that i just use normal ATMs with my UK bank cards just draw out large amounts like 10K* baht or more , who gives a hoot if you get stung by a couple of % here or there on fees , but dont use the 7/11 ATMs they are a rip of . good vlog as usual Trev thanks for sharing
thanks for sharing mate much appreciated
Just a question. Those of you in the US and UK who are well into the vaccination program. Do you receive any certification to prove you have been vaccinated. As it looks like this will be required for international travel. Passport endorsements have even been mentioned.
yes you get like a medical card with record.
I guess you must have to have some proof
we were warned about the ATMs, last trip we took the ATM swallowed & kept my buddys' ATM card. We went in to speak to the teller and they basically told us we were SOL and would have to wait 3-5 days for a tech to be able to return the card.
Thanks for sharing
The thing I love most about Thailand is you can walk up to any Lady, strike up a conversation, ask her out for a coffee or dinner and not be cirrus out, attacked, or having to police called like here in America.
agreed
thanks for this vlog, very informative, couple of points i would like to add: Kasikorn have always been easy to use, the one on Pattaya Klang down near 2nd road has some very good English speaking staff, i have also found they will exchange notes that the kiosks refuse (light damage and/or writing only), Indian food.....best for me is Tikka centre opposite the top of Soi Honey, good prices, and very good food. The Avenue, i have heard the main part of the mall has been sold to an Indian consortium and will be converted to an Indian type of Nana Plaza (named Nan Plaza......very clever!)
Great comment thanks for sharing mate, much appreciated
Once travel reopens, would you cinsider doing meetups at a bar, park etc with your followers?
100% yes
They wouldn’t let me open an account 4 years ago and I owned a condo. So I went to Bangkok bank and they did. Maybe it’s changed now.
Also Praya Thai BTS & Airport link has a supper rich booth
@@sos-chris Yes, but they give the best rates only at the HQ.
Thanks for sharing
You’re dead right about room safes, easy to Nick or open......but DONT stash your money in the room, bad bad idea......tip, I always make sure any hotel I stay in has lock up boxes behind reception....your money is totally safe as there’s usually two keys and a manager has to open it with you.
yep
Perhaps a video on hotels with this service would be good, as opposed to room safes
@@user-cx1pv1rp2i definitely
I always go over the counter at Krungsri bank, usually at the one in central festival. You dont have any limits on how much you can withdraw, no fees and the rate tends to be better than other places. I have used travellers cheques in Thailand but not since 2008, I dont know if anyone out there still takes them. I agree with avoiding ATM's but if you do use one you usually get a voucher for a free can of coke in Family Mart lol.
Great comment thanks for sharing
I’ve always found the best place to change money is the one giving the highest rate.
lol, that works hahaha
Great video as usual and some really helpful interesting information. Be interested to know if there is any interest gained on holding a Thai bank account or any charges?
Thanks mate and yes you get interest, but like 0.000001% lol
In 2007 I tried using traveler's checks in the Phillippines and they looked at me like I had rocks in my head.
Lol
I am eagerly waiting to come back to Thailand. If Thailand get rid of the quarantine requirement, I will be the first to come back!
Nice
I always use the yellow tts. I don't know if it's true or not but a ex pat told me never exchange money at the weekend. The rate is always better midweek. As for the hooters girls. Great eye candy that's about all
Great tip!
Transferwise is an excellent service , I have used it for 5 years without a problem to send $$ to California .
Great shout
Open a ‘Revolut’ bank account. Get exact exchange rate. Pay for what you can by card + can take limited amounts of cash out of cash machine
Nice one
not only large notes like US$ 100, but also clean and unmarked as the teller can sometimes reject your note. Interestingly, I have always found Pattaya rates better than rates in BKK. Super Rich in BKK also has good rates, and I rarely go to banks to exchange.
Yeah good shout mate
Can you open an account in a Thai bank without having a Thai address and transfer your money into it to use when on holiday?
You need a proof of residency, but here, anything is possible if you ask in a VISA company for example
@@Buzzinpattaya let’s say I have a friend who will volunteer his address in Bangkok verbally is that going to be enough ? Trev when you say visa company what do you mean. I’ll arrive in May after quarantine in BKK and want to deposit my cash somewhere for safety
I also wonder what "VISA company" means ?
Best rates at the GREEN SuperRich (BKK). When I was with my Thai girlfriend I found Bangkok Bank had the best intrest rates with the least costs. ATM card with Kasikorn was more expensive. Opening a bank account as a tourist with no permanent address or job in Thailand is a hassle I found.
Thanks for the info!
Do you get a card the same day when you open a bank account
Yes
Atm cost depends on vad type of card and bank you have. It differs also from country to country. I often withdraw from atm. If you withdraw 10000bath you have a cost of a few hundred bath in fee. The diffrent exchenge office is aiming on different countries so check many diffrent ones. Some with atms.

REMEMBER LARGE CLEAN NOTES NO PEN MARKS ETC AND YOUR PASSPORT. IN THE DAYS WHEN AEON ATM HAD NO EXCHANGE FEES NOW I HAVE TO THAI BANKS ACCOUNT GREEN&BLUE BANKS
Indeed
You beat me to it about clean notes absolutely right
Good chat again , excellent stuff.
Thanks mate
Lol, travellers cheques.. I think they went out with the video cassette recorder (vcr) and the Commodore 64 computer.. 😆
Hahahahaha
Thanks mate was wondering about Atm's this video was great because i am staying at Baracuda in Jan 23 and the banks are just up the road . Once again great info and see ya when im there
Thanks mate
How did you learn thai?....coming to live there soon.... wondering what would be the best way to learn and if reading ability is needed🙄
I just keep asking and asking and try to remember.
I was shocked to find out how many people back at home never realized taking their hard earnt money abroad for better exchange rates. If everyone realized this, our own country would have no choice but to match them.
To many newbies to scared to change aboard
@@paula-yr7pp Nah, just in general, not realizing you get a better exchange abroad. Even a shop owner I know never realized.
True
I live in Thailand and I use TransferWise now known as wise, and 9 times out of 10 the money is in my bankok bank before I've put my phone down🥴
same here mate
Thanks mate
if you want to help out your own country use the halifax clarity c/c or something similar, ( very cheap pay off card as soon as it appears ) that way if you get 10000baht - 10000baht is transferred from the UK banks foreign reserves. at the moment their are more UK notes outside of UK than in UK. Be Savvy Be British
But can I open an account if I'm only staying a couple weeks?
If you need an account I would suggest you go and see an agent they will be much better to help you out with all the paperwork in the bank
@@Buzzinpattaya I saw a video that said if you're just a short term tourist you can't open one. I think I'm just going to keep my cash on me in some discreet money belt of sorts..

Do they have specific currencies they take or do they take smaller country notes as well? Should I bring Euro or my own currency?
they take all currency but the bigger the note value the better the rate but not a lot.
Hi Trevor ☺️
Question can open an kasikorn bank account since I can't provide a prof of residency since I am planning a nearly 3months holiday and mostly I would like to travel around Isaan region. Or is there any way around it or other methods to care money?

Charles Schwab debit card is the way to do it. No foreign transaction fee, no ATM fee and the best rate.

Another great Video. Cheers again Mate for sharing your thoughts and tales about so many interesting and practical day to day issues about Pattaya. By the way that beach looks absolutely Awesome. -1 degrees yesterday morning here in Jersey in the Channel Island. So jealous....! May I ask you how is the weather like out there in Pattaya in September. Usually I been out there just in high season . December and January. Many Thanks again Mate and please keep sharing your lovely stuff. Stay safe.
1 deg ouch!!! Yeah so many rumours here mate it is crazy as all changes day to day
The rumors says 10 days quarantine in October and 7 days for vaccinated people.
Yeah and maybe sooner

If you are a regular visitor, open a Thai bank account and use home country online banking to transfer money, you get the TT rate which is better than the booth rate.
And if you tell your bank that you will pay the transfer cost at your Thai account , the cost's are less than you pay at your home bank .
Open a Bank Account and use Wise
If you're travelling to Thailand frequently, best to open a bank account there when you get there through an agency (such as KeyVisa, very helpful) and transfer the money from your account at home to your Thai account via TransferWise. Take cash with you at your own risk, I've had some taken from my hotel safe (not all, but a couple notes, thanks to the cleaners that I've tipped) once so be very careful. My favourite Indian restaurant is Everest out the back of Retox Soi Honey!
Good tip!
Thanks for the stay away from the urge to rent a motorbike advice. I think that was one of the most things I was looking forward to doing there this fall. But I think that is sound. My dad was friends with Evel Knievel, but my buzzed butt will be riding that baht bus instead like a rented mule.

We still have bans on international travel here in Australia until 21st June but it's expected to be extended for a further 3 months untill at least September 21 I am about to book for early November. Just watching this video for first time...as regards Transferwise is not a "good rate" it the best possible rate ! In short its interbank rates the maximum you can obtain as a retail customer. There is NO other transfer service that gives full interbank...none at all. As such no one should need to bother with another provider
Thanks mate, nice one
Very true, Transferwise has the lowest fee's & best rates. They are even planning to reduce their rates to 0 in the future. Much better than Old school western Union & PayPal.
Bravo, fantastic as usual!!
