Out of the many art tutorials I followed over the years, I truly and deeply appreciate how simple yet effective you did this and for the many beginners I am sure they would as well. Thank you and I hope you do more videos.
i have been drawing for 6 hours now, with breaks of course, but I seem to not just get it. Your video saved me so much, not only is your voice so soothing but your choice of words are very encouraging and reassuring us beginners. I also like to mention how amazing it is that you actually showed a live footage of you sketching and refining the lines, which made me understood how to draw it better. Thank you, definitely gave this video a like 👍
Thank you for commenting and for saying those nice things! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and that it helped you. Hopefully I’ll create and upload more videos soon! Keep up the great work! Take care!
When i was young and had "picture/drawing" classes in school, my teacher gave us box with magazines and told us to take page from this magazine and draw one of the persons, he also told us to draw the picture upside down ,because its easier for the "left and right side of the brain to work together this way" , he said the reason its tough to draw something is because the both sides of the brains arent connected yet while drawing, once they are- it becomes easier to see details and get it down on paper. Very interesting way of thinking and he was a VERY good teacher!
That’s great! I flip my art upside down at some point nearly every time I draw. It’s SO valuable!! A great way to see things with fresh eyes and to draw more accurately. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Why this video came to my recommendation after I have my art folio and exam done...🙄 This looks so helpful. Now, I think I can draw anything!😆 Thanks for sharing your thoughts to others.😁 I will look forward to try this technique.😉
This is an excellent tutorial on how to analyze reference images to create drawings in a simple and effective way. Thank you so much! I immediately subscribed, and I hope more viewers find their way to your channel.
THIS IS THE VIDEO THAT IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!!! I just found out recently this year that I am missing the basic shape knowledge! Ive been learning since and HOLY COW realizing this has TRUELY opened up my art. Please note that I was one of those kids who only did "Observation drawing" going RIGHT for the detail every time!
Wow! Thank you for saying that! I am so stoked that this video has helped you! Training your eye to see things as shapes is so valuable! I’m so glad you’ve had that breakthrough and I’m sure it’s beginning to show in your art. Keep up the great work! I hope to publish more videos soon so be on the lookout! Thanks for your comment.
Could you make a longer tutorial or even a course based on this? I and many others found this very helpful and id definitely be willing to pay to learn more.
OMG! THIS has just helped seal the whole concept that: "Drawing is basically made up of shapes..." You couldn't have shown a better introductory example ad that pawn. I cannot wait to try this. I started an art class, supposedly fir beginners - but it wasn't. I will stick with tutorials such as this, and just practice, practice practice. Thank you. You are an awesome drawer - but more importantly, for me, a brilliant teacher (the two do not always go together, sadly...).
i started drawing 2 days ago i knew how to do this but i thought i could only use circles and ovals ty so much this helped my goal is to make a nft one day
Man i was just thinking about using just shapes to draw in my mind and i just write it on search bar you explained it very well 💪🥰😄 i will train to do that
This is such a good video. I've tried this technique before but i couldn't like get it right until i stumble this video. Thank you so much, I really need this to pursue my dreams of drawing art
Excellent video! Your example make sense and I'm eager to apply the basic shapes to my drawings. I have little to no skill so am hoping with time and practice I'll improve.
After you do this how do you finish it like go line work and color basically this is a sketch so how to make it into a art piece plz try to do a tutorial on that with these same objects and animals. Btw very good tutorial
Thanks for the question and the feedback. I would love to teach the next steps to finishing a drawing in future videos. I plan on publishing more videos soon! Thanks!
Hello! Thank you for your saying that! I’m so glad this is helpful for you. I’m really hoping I’ll have the ability to record and share more videos soon. Take care and keep drawing!
Oh my gosh! How awesome is that! So cool. I'm proud of you! Keep drawing! Good structure is very important for a good drawing, but that structure doesn't have to be hard or take a million years! Basic shapes are magical!
Thank you so much! I definitely plan on creating more videos, including ones about shading. Videos on skin tones would be great too! Thanks for the feedback!
@CALEB Drawing forms is easy when they are simple and square. But when you want to draw a reference with organic features how do I draw down the forms exact? It is hard to draw the form because it so organic. Need tips plz
It really helped, but my problem is that you use tools which only works on digital art, and it only works on references. I guess it doesn’t matter if you can mostly only draw references, but when you draw the boxes on the dragon for example: it’s basically just tracing, and tracing is the 1 thing I don’t want to be learning.
To be honest, I'd suggest you to start with drawing from a reference first. Once you're familiar with all the shapes and concepts, you can start working on drawing from your imagination.
as a retarded perfectionist i have to thank you, i always knew that i was going too fast and with the wrong method (not mentioning the high expectations i had) which caused me to stop drawing for a WHILE now that im back in the game this video is really helpfull, breaking down everything down is so powerfull, and focusing on that instead of insane details when doing reference/study work is so much easier! thank you very much !!
Great question. The best way to be able to draw ANYTHING from your head is to first draw it many, many times from references. Draw that certain thing from many different angles, positions, and lighting situations over and over, using references. I’m my opinion, the only way to gain the ability to draw something accurately from your head is to first build your mental visual library through observational drawing from references, whether that be from photos or from life. A lot of people want to only draw from their head because they don’t want to be a “slave” to the reference. But truly understanding anatomy, proportions, and your subject’s attributes will actually, truly give you FREEDOM, and the ability to draw that subject from your head in whatever angle and position you want because you’ve drawn it so many times and understand what it’s made up of. I hope this helps.
Not that I know of. However, the important thing is to practice breaking down/simplifying your reference image into basic shapes on your own. That will make you a better artist and soon it will become second nature for you, it will become easier with practice. Best wishes!

I'm the 700th sub!

Woh
what if i wanna draw an animal myself without any refrence?
Great question. The best way to be able to draw ANYTHING from your head is to first draw it many, many times from references. @@paintwithcaleb oh wow! thank you so much, it helps :D
Great tutorial- more please… lose the music … distracting…. Want tool are you drawing with? Thank again, you’re a good teacher!
they're using photoshop
Is there an app to break my screenshot of what I want to draw into shapes?
Not that I know of. However, the important thing is to practice breaking down/simplifying your reference image into basic shapes on your own. That will make you a better artist and soon it will become second nature for you, it will become easier with practice. Best wishes!
I think the tutorial could be better without the background music, or with the music being quieter. Other than that it was super useful
his music doesnt need to be quiet , his voice needs to be louder
I can draw according to the video but when it comes to doing it on my own I really struggle 😩 This and gesture have been giving me such a headache
Thank you!
