- Namaste Dosto, iss video ke jariye me ek aisa experience share karna chahta hu joki mere liye ek kaafi bada incident tha. Ek accident ki wajah se aaja tak me chize sikhta ja raha hu. Aapse share karne se mujr lagta hai ki aapko bhi kuch sikhne ko dega yr saara kissa.
Okay, First, Thanks for your love and Support. Many of you have shared your experiences as well. Again thanks. One thing I guess many are debating about is why I didn't use Front brake first and Using hand Brake (Rear Barkes) can lock rear wheels and flip the car. I would have used front brake only. But I was busy in handling the car. I was on a road just 2 lanes wide and had walls both the side. Avoiding impact was my first task. And by the time I realized that I will hit the wall and would have to steer badly again I used the Hand brake. Handbrake was pulled with normal force and that can not ever lock wheels on a road with proper traction. Tell me a car with rear drum brake which locks the wheels on roads with hand brake 70-80 % pulled up. Just try locking your car's rear wheels today on a proper tarmac road with full traction. I would be glad to know that which manufacturer provides that. At last do not forget that this all happened in just 5 seconds or less.
Also, Airbag nahi khule. Maine Zoomcar ko 5000 pay kiye as damage fee. Total repair cost I think 40,000 se jyada ka tha.

As an engineer having worked in the industry for 2+ decades I can tell you the following. Handbrakes are designed for parking and straightline emergency braking only. The foot brake operates through hydraulic and operates on ALL wheels. The hydraulic sets are self adjusting in the case of drum brakes and also the force is multiplied through hydraulic lever action and hence are more balanced and more powerful as compared to handbrakes.
Handbrakes do NOT have equal force distribution. This can lead to un-uniform application of brake force to one side of the vehicle increasing the chances of the vehicle loosing centerline traction - or in other words the vehicle can turn turtle. Also remember that the maximum traction force is NOT when the wheels are locked but when the wheels are JUST ABOUT to lock (The same principle behind ABS). So by not locking the wheels and also not ensuring that they are uniform, you are actually creating an unbalanced torque that will turn the car.
The best reaction is to avoid using handbrake but rely on the foot pedal. EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution - distributes the braking force based on traction available and moment of the car) and BA (Brake Assist) are there for a reason and in some of the more expensive cars the yaw-pitch controller senses the turning moment and braking moment and throttles the brake force between the wheels so center point steering is not broken. Thats the advantage of having hydraulic system compared to cabled handbrakes where distributing the force is impossible.
I have been through a similar near death accident on our roads and there are many things that it teaches. I am happy to see that you are enforcing the point that seat belts are to be WORN no matter what.

Very nice video Gagan, I really appreciate your efforts and how you have put your experience nicely. I would like to add that:1) Drive within limits of your capabilities.2) Don't smoke while driving (based on my own experience)3) Don't look for shops, people, other cars etc while driving. Ask your co-passenger instead to look those things. 4) Don't use mobile even to read messages. Baat karna, text karna to dur ki baat hai.5) tyre pressure should be checked regularly.6) Don't drink and drive (not even single peg or a can of beer)7) Don't praise yourself if you can drink and drive. Its nothing to feel proud of.

My frequent response saved me and my family from dangerous accident in 2018. I have goosebumps whenever I think about that night. That day I realized driving is not fun, it is responsibility.
i was going to Goa from Hyd and my tyre had burst when i was at 100 kmph speed. trust me seat belts r sooo important because I was in good command of my car, my wife kid n father in law were sleeping. they woke up only when i parked the car safely and woke them up.and pls don't panic.

First of all Thanks to GOD for your safe landing.
I also gone through similar situation in 2013 with my i10 car.
And my seatbelt saved me, impact was strong with direct hit to a tree, got some fracture in spine bone, which recovered now, But I thank to God that all my colleagues (4) unharmed.
Everything happens in just a few seconds and that taught me a lot of lessons. One of them is never ever drive car without fastening seatbelt.
I am still driving the same car but do not cross my speed, if I am in hurry I like to start from home few minutes early rather try to make up on Road.

Wow... really got tears in my eyes!!! Very lucky to be here to share the incident. Such an unfortunate accident!!! Usually people don't talk about accidents, but thanks for sharing and alerting people here.
Beautifully shared and i could sense the anxiety out of recalling the incident. Have had my share of near misses but I learnt from those and since then my priority is always safety, so I have made it a habit to drive at a very normal speed max 80 and average 60 and always try to relate it to a better mileage which helps me stay within that range. One more thing is that no matter how fast you drive it will hardly make a difference of 10-15 mins or max a half hour that too on a very long journey so no point in driving fast and risking your life. That's what I have learnt.
Left foot braking in an automatic car is very helpful for most incidents, I always do that in an automatic car, you will always keep your left foot covered over the brakes which is helpful for faster reactions, and in a FWD car if the tail end steps out(oversteer) you can just floor the accelerator and the car should adjust itself..., but learning how to “counter steer” or turning into a slide is very helpful and Indian driving schools should incorporate that into their lessons, teaching how to control an oversteer on a skidpad it’s important

Would Like to share my experience of last week too, Gagan Sir!. I was driving on a village road(Single Lane) on my Bike, Behind a dumper Truck on a slight left turn(It was early morning 7am, sleepy, in a hurry although i knew the road very well), i waved to the left to see if there is any incoming vehicle, there was none, so quickly waved to the right side of the Truck with immense acceleration to overtake it, then i saw my mistake, a fully Grown White TataSafari-Storme followed by a family of two on a bike, i Hit both the Brakes, Rear Tyre slipped, my bike waved like a snake(literally), the woman on bike behind screamed, fortunately, the other driver was alert and saved me by moving his Storme out of road. we stopped a few meters away, looked at each other, i didn't want to get beaten so i waved sorry to him from there only and we moved on. My guts came to my mouth during this incident with fear. Now i overtake big vehicles only on straight roads with clear overtakin' distance, LESSON LEARNED BY FEAR!

The same thing happened to me earlier. I have rented Ford Figo (2nd Gen) from Zoomcar and I was on Rajkot to Ahmedabad Highway. I was around 120 KM/H and the tyre got burst. Pata nahi wo kese fata, me sure tha ki road pe esa ku6 nahi tha but I don't know wo kese tyre brust hua.
But thank god to Ford's handling and the road was little wide. I did the same, handbrake + front break and I could easily manage the car and get it side of the road.
Yeh meri life ka sabse ganda accident tha, luckly nothing has happened to us, but tyre fatne se usaka rubber front bumper ko impact hua (as it was at good speed, wo rotate karte hua front bumper and wheel rim pura damage kar diya), everything got damaged. I have checked the car later and found that wo tyre normal tyre se 6ota tha and wo koi different company ka tha (different than 3tyres). That was totally strange. That was my last trip with Zoomcar. Wo log car maintain nahi rakhate, if car has back to back bookings.

Brijesh Valera zoomcar does have some maintenance issues...I also took an ecosport from zoomcar which had is left orvm broken. And it didn't have parking sensors/camera. Orvm is Not a major issue but it's definitely necessary for good parking when the vehicle doesn't have parking sensors/camera.

I always try to rent a self-drive car but lot of bad reviews from people put me off.
I travel through that highway every year twice thrice , i can properly imagine that particular place and you people, and particular turn right after bridge, very informative video 💯👏🏻
U mentioned accidents never happen because of a single reason. A plethora of factors eventually come together to create an accident. Being from aviation background i completely vouch for it. In aviation we r taught something called as the SWISS CHEESE MODEL for accidents. Try reading about it. U have spoken the exact thing in this video. I am also sriving from age of 8 years and now m 33.
I believe, the one who makes others safe is best driver,your road behavior represents your driving skills.

Your experience defines the most common rookie mistake, Overtaking on the blind turns. This almost happened to everyone who is new to driving. You cant see whats ahead of you and then comes the surprise. Good thing that no one was hurt.
3-point seatbelt was invented by Nils Bohlin ( Volvo ). for public safety they didn't patent it. Kudos

Your actual mistakes-
1. Even though you are not habitual to automatic, you rented it.
2. At the time of renting, dealer tells that car is speed locked to 80kmph. You overspeeded.
3. You rented maruti. Duniya ko gyan dete ho khud maruti leke ghum rahe ho highway pe high speed pe.

After listening to your mishap, I am now more convinced that GPS navigation "with Satellite view" can be a life saver too!
I make it a point to use Google Maps in my mobile, after securely keeping it at eye level, on roads unknown to me.
Believe me, it helps a LOT in hills as it prepares you in advance for the upcoming curves ahead.
Being an old school guy, I know it well, that blind trust on anything can be fatal. Be it GPS Navigation or ABS/ESP/EBD, etc. one should practice defensive driving.
I personally like to attain a better Average Speed than some insane Max Speed.

Sir, I am Big fan of yours and viewed all your videos. I understand your experience and feeling about accident, as m also faced same in November-19, same style and same car damage, but my accident occurred due to some idiot and drunkun bike driver. But thanks to God me , my family and also drunken bike driver not having heavy injury. But after that accident, I was unable to drive car for 2- months. And learnt lots of things and specially sit belts. It's saved my and my co passenger life.

5 years back my father was going from delhi to VARANASI with 3 friends in his car Honda City. Speed was 150-160 and on NH2 from nowhere a tractor trailer came without indicating anything in between the highway trying to join the other line. And in about 100 mtr he pushed the brakes hard but the car hit the trailor. He remained undamaged due to Airbags and ABS. Rest his fellow passengers got injuries on knees and arms due to not wearing seatbelts at the back .
That was the blessing of GOD

One thing please make a note whenever you going for long drive keep Tyre pressure 5% low bcoz due to heat Tyre inflates, if your Tyre is already has almost maximum pressure then it will burst, max people keep their Tyre pressure at max on long drive thinking that they'll not get any puncher shop any where , so please keep your Tyre pressure low on long distance driving if you driving in city no issues in long distance don't know how the roads are it may brust even with small sharp stones thank you.

The road was up and down .. i was in climbing position with a speed of 80 infront of my car there was a Nissan Micra which was also running speed... He climbed the upside road and while the road was slope he made a hand brake because the lorry stopped suddenly ..... Followed by my vehicle .....It was very sudden i just climbed the upside of road and just got the visuals of the road and i saw nissan car appling hand break ... I tried to stop my vehicle appled brake , thought to cut on left or right but its a temple place public was there, then unfortunately i dashed the nissan car ... I was wearing seat belt everyone was safe in our car , opposite people are also safe but cars was seriously damaged... We had paid 15000 to them .... I don't know its my mistake or what... I lost my confidence on my driving .... After watching this video i realised that its an experience.... We need to learn....

2 years back,I was traveling from Kolkata to Durgapur, during my journey I was @110 kmph on my pulsar bike .Highway was clear but suddenly I noticed 1 truck was taking u turn, when I applied break I noticed a loud sound ,which is coming from bike.Than I thought it was not possible to stop the bike I suddenly change the opposite lane.From that incident I learnt that "Don't be overconfident in road anything can happen ".From that day I always ride within @70kmph.
The acceleration saved you bro, Has happened to me too.. i just accelerate and the control returns into my hands. It happens in Bikes.. when u slip.. u gotta rip the throttle
Though very well explained but there is a technical fault in your explanation:- First of all there is nothing called as Front brake & Rear Brake in context of a four wheeler, the moment you press brake pedal it will apply brakes in all the fours wheels simultaneously(Hydraulic braking system) & it is always advisable & wise to use the Brake pedal for hard & effective braking. Handbrake is a Mechanical brake which when applied can only slow down the Rear wheels of the car & should only be used in case of Hydraulic braking failure.

Hi Gagan @5:48 you said mera doosra paon clutch pe hota which is wrong thinking. Dont press the clutch if you want to slow down your vehicle in high speed , and instead press the brake pedal once the vehicle will slow down you can press the clutch.
I also save my self and biker on road on Yamuna expresway at the speed of 140 km from SX4 with minor damages

Few months back i was travelling with my frnd on a curvy road and suddenly a school going boy with his scooter came infront of me on a blind turn without giving me any warning he put his vehicle on main road luckly i controlled my vehicle and nothing had happen to him as well as both of us
The main reson i had saved my self as well as that boy is that is i always expect that someone will always comes from front side on a blind turn so prepare ur self ..

People will think we know this s**t rules but trust Just listen to my story
Me (16 years old at that time), My cousin(21 Years old), 2 friends were in kufri (Shimla) and we were coming back from Kufri to chandigarh at 11:30pm and My cousin and my friend was drunken and me and my friend (Who was driving car but not drunken) were in Hyundai Verna 1.4 CRDI and Car was at 90kmph and music was at Maximum volume and my 2 friends was drunken and we all were not wearing seat belt as car speed increased from 90 to 100kmph i was scared and i wear my seat belt and i requested my friend who was driving car that please slow down it not safe and i am scared as music was too high he was unable to listen and there was a curve on the road and guess what ! there was a fucking truck incoming from opposite site and 1 head light of truck wasn't working (Curve on road + High speed + Loud Music + 1head light of truck wasn't working) leads to an accident and you won't believe I lost my cousin as well as my 2 friends (All of them were without seat belts) and i was highly injured too but alive after the accident i remember when i saw them dead, i was hopeless at that road and i came out of car and i went Unconscious, I don't know what happened after that but at 6:30 am i was in hospital crying, broken, alot of pain (I can't express that feel in words but that feel was worse) I thank to god for saving my life and rip my 3 friends. Car can be bought again but life cannot. You should enjoy the life but not on road, never ever show off that look people i am driving at fucking high speed it will cost you huge no one else. So people Drive safe Follow Rules :)

Archit Singh sir iam a automobile engineer and work in this field please get your source of knowledge from right places. The foot brake operates on all four wheels and parking brake on the rear wheels. If you use parking brake at speed you have a very high chances of flipping the car.
Foot brake oprates all four wheels, handbrake only rear wheels
Using hand brake can lead to loss of traction at rear, which would make the rear end come out. People use handbrakes to slide the car and he used it so it comes in control!
In newer cars you should never ever pull the handbrake to stop the car as when you pull the handbrake the abs stops working on rear wheels and car can spin out of control.
I think maximum 80 tak chalana chahiye jisse aapki car ke easily breaks lag jate h aur aap usse control mein rakh skte ho, yeh mera personal experience hai..

K K Thanks for sharing, both the points are correct, I had a similar experience but I was wearing helmet and realized, scooters are not as safe as motorcycles are, so ride them carefully.
