    I have been engraving some for about 6 years. You are much better than I at this point. I am starting to do a bit more but my drawing sucks. I like how you have figured out to draw on your firearms and engrave a small part at a time. Keep it up.

    Oh my god… that is freaking AWESOME.. great job!!!!!
    What size graver did you use for the outline… and was that a pneumatic one for the stipling? What size.. I have been wanting to do this for so long but Im a little confused on what sizes to begin with. I also want to it by hand but I have a feeling mine won’t be anywhere as beautiful as this. I’ll just practice on some scrap metal.

    • @jwsahm6703
      @jwsahm6703  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Practicing on scrap metal is your friend! Can't mess up what's already scrap lol. I use a 120 degree v point for the line work. And yea I use a pneumatic for the stippling as well as all the rest of the lines, it's a grs GraverSmith machine with a magnum handpiece

  • @davidmonteleone997
    @davidmonteleone997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome work man, was the slide stripped to bare metal before you started? If so how would you go about refinishing/painting the raised portion without covering the engraved portion? For instance if you wanted the raised portion to be white but the engroaved portion to be the black you used in the video? Thanks for the upload your awesome!!

    • @jwsahm6703
      @jwsahm6703  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you wanted the raised portion to be painted but not the engraving you could paint it first and engrave through the paint (or whatever finish it has), though this is not always recommended. To make the engraving black but not the metal I just rub black enamel into it and wipe away the excess. Also the gun was stainless to begin with so no prior prepping was done. Hope that answers it, thanks for watching :D

  • @thomasvanlanen6279
    @thomasvanlanen6279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice work! I have a question. What are your graver heel angles and width? sometimes I doubt if I get mine right, they dive in the metal really easy.

    • @jwsahm6703
      @jwsahm6703  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I set the heel by eye so I don't know what the exact angle is, but around 15 degrees is a good start. The size of the heel is also important. Too small and the graver will just dig in as the heel is not big enough to ride on, and you will have to lower your hand just to keep it from digging in further. Too big and you will have to raise your hand high just to start a line.
      I use carbide gravers, but a high speed steel (HSS) graver is useful to practice graver geometry as they are much easier to shape and grind then carbide (at the cost of durability)

    • @thomasvanlanen6279
      @thomasvanlanen6279 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Thought I was doing something wrong in the sharpening, maybe it’s my crappy turntable that vibrates that’s causing the cmax gravers to break.
