I can't tell what's sadder. The fact people wrote sad songs based off their own emotions or experiences or the fact that people relate enough that it can bring them to tears
I think there's a beautiful catharsis to it, as a listener, being able to feel those emotions can help me understand my own, and as a Vocaloid producer, the idea that someone could experience the same thing listening to my music brings me joy
@@NeoLockethonestly I think listening to sad music (especially when you relate to it) and crying is a healthy thing to do. Sometimes you just need a good cry
I think the vocaloid song that’s made me cry the most is Kokoro. It’s somehow happy when you’re finally able to feel sadness after an eternity of feeling nothing at all (very bittersweet, emotionception)
And it's also sad because it tells a beautiful song about how a scientist wanted to make the impossible dream of a robot having a heart(Kokoro) be real.
Hated by Life Itself is such a good sad, but upbeat song that I feel like it should've been added to the list since it's really depressing, but sadly really relatable.
Yeah! I rarely cry to songs but listening to Hated by Life Itself (especially the cover by Mafumafu) always makes me emotional, the feelings in that song are just so extremely strong
another really sad vocaloid song is “please don’t have laid down your life” ft. gumi. it just hits me in the feels every time and sometimes i get teary eyed 🥺
I'd love to recommend a few more :D • Saihate - Kobayashi Onyx (grieving the loss of a loved one) • I'm Glad You're Evil Too - PinocchioP (nothing particularly sad, but still makes me cry everytime) • Crappy Fantasy Days - PinocchioP (depression, monotony of a routinary life) • Nonbreath Oblige - PinocchioP (pretty sure it's about bottling up your feelings for the sake of others) • That's a Good Thing - KurageP/Wada Takeaki (unrequited love, being forgot by a loved one) • Adult Children - Kanzaki Iori (desire to be loved, masking your feelings, depression) • Comparison Syndrome - Go Aoki (lack of self-esteem, growing up) • Until I Throw Away my Dreams and Become an Adult - Kasamura Tota (title sums it up) • Otome Dissection - DECO*27 (unrequited love, sexual relationship) • Therefore, you and me - 4o (dependant relationship) • Astronauts - Siinamota/PowapowaP (to be honest I have no idea how to describe this one, but it hits really close. Maybe lack of self-esteem and bottling up your feelngs)
Saihate is an actually amazing song, thank you for giving Kobayashi Onyx the recognition they deserve. HOWEVER, the lyrics of Otome Dissection suggest that the girl is dead, and that she's trying to get through to her lover and have a conversation with them, but she doesn't realize that she's dead until near the end of the song. She repeats the line "I don't want to live" before realizing that she actually isn't. Similar to Hachi's "Mrs. Pumpkin's Comical Dream" ft. Miku, where Mrs. Pumpkin doesn't realize that she's dead, until well... *she does* and breaks down over it. I should say that what "the lyrics suggest" is completely a personal perspective on the song, but I'd thought I'd add my shitty opinion because I like wasting my time.
I like to think that "I'm glad you're evil too" is a love song. Involving two people who have settled for mediocrity and given up on their dreams. But they're happy because they're together. (and yes it makes me cry too 😢)
@@Tamanegi-P that's a really cool interpretation, makes sense too. I haven't listened to Mrs. Pumpkin's Comical Dream, you got me interested so I'll do it now! I personally think it's about a no-strings attached relationship in which the girl grew attached, desiring to have a real connection with the other person, but being unable to Still a sad song from either point of view
self inflicted achromatic really encapsulates how I view myself, and the ending helps remind me that I am loved. it’s crazy how so many kinds of people can relate to these songs.
this just came out in what’s probably has been the worst week i’ve had in a bit, and it might sound odd but listening to sad songs when i’m feeling horrible usually cheers me up a ton. Thanks Minnemi Also note: Rolling girl is such a fucking special song to me honestly and i’d say is the reason i’m still alive to this day, im glad 8 year old me who was having an absolutely catastrophic time in school found it randomly on youtube one day. RIP Wowaka.
I love Rolling Girl so much but I can't bring myself to listen to it very often. The themes of the song plus the fact wowaka passed away make me genuinely emotional.
Along with the ones mentioned in the video, “Lovers Suicide Oblivion” (by OPA and Asaki No'9) always seems to make me tear up. When MEIKO sings “I remember the warmth of your hand” I just- 😭 Another one is “Deep Sea Girl” by Yuuyu-P. I feel like it captures the feeling of depression very well, but it also has a hopeful ending, which I really love! And honorable mentions to “I Really Do Understand” (by Funakoshi-P), “Rooters Song” (by DECO*27), “Blessing” (by halyosy) “Sakura Rain” (by halyosy) and “Attakaito” (also by halyosy).
I would like to include Seasonal Feathers onto this list. I swear to god I bawl my eyes out every time I listen to it, especially when Len’s voice kicks in at the end 😭🤚
I remember crying at The Lost One's Weeping (Neru) at 12 I think, and it was my first time feeling that way towards a song. I was just pressured and suicidal because of school and peer pressure. Neru produced a lot of songs about these topics. It helped me go through these moments.
rolling girl holds so much weight in my heart. i think it's the combination of the song's meaning, the memories of listening to it when i was younger, and knowing that wowaka is gone.
Just like two hopeful(ish) but sadish songs that make me cry Odds n Ends, the lyrics (especially towards the middle) just make me tear up even after 1,546 listens Once upon a me, a lonely miku coming to realize she has people there for her its so sad yet sorta joyful at the same time. Really is one of those songs that are my life in a song.
I mean, the song is about Ryo AND how Miku accompanied him along his music making journey, with the hardships he faced with not being a "typical" music producer. (A Vocaloid producer; yes, he actually was bullied for making Vocaloid music 😭)
I have a confession to make: I've cried to Vocaloid songs before, but it's for the dumbest reasons ever. Exhibit A: Merry Christmas My Hero by LiveP It was like 3am, I just finished a big project, so I watched a cosplay video of this song. I started crying during it, I don't know if because the music video with Rin and Len was so wholesome, or because it was 3AM. Exhibit B: Song of the eared Robot by nwp8861 I had been listening to that song on repeat after Teto's SynthV released (and covers of the song with her voicebank were made) and... I don't know if it was the song itself, or the fact that Teto finally got a non-utau voicebank, but I just started crying like a baby.
The saddest part is that many producers who mainly write these super sad and frustrating lyrics are explaining their actual feelings and terrible experiences, like MARETU for example.
This is such a wonderful list of songs and I love how you listed what each song was about and what makes them sad. If I could add a song to this list it would be the only Vocaloid song I’ve ever remembered crying to: Regret Message by mothy (Akuno-P) ft. Rin Kagamine. Just the whole theme of deeply regretting past actions but being unable to change anything really speaks to me. Add on the fact Riliane(the girl voiced by Rin in the song) ends up losing her brother and wishing to be reborn again to be with him is just…here come the waterworks! The song is also a part of mothy’s song series The Evillous Chronicles but you don’t have to be familiar with the series to get the message. The English cover by Lizz Robinett also turns me into a big baby. Sorry for the long post but to finish off I wanted to say that I’m a long time subscriber who throughly enjoys your videos and I can’t wait to see what you do next!
Reboot and Girl A will always be my personal favorite vocaloid songs that have made me cry. I’m super glad you included Self inflicted achromatic. I know it’s odd to say a sad song helped me through sad times but hearing that song (and others) helped me through a lot due to feeling seen.
I don't want to seem like one of THOSE people but regarding Coward Montblanc, it's a song about not being able to confess your feelings to someone before it's too late. (E.g. they move away, they die, etc.) Though, it may seem like a toxic relationship when she says "If you were to kill yourself, I'd be better off", but this is because she feels as if the boy she liked didn't exist, she wouldn't have felt this strongly about him and have been tortured with knowing she will never be with him ever. If I remember correctly, they never dated but they did have feelings for each other. 32 The tag of "cowardice" is in the sense that she is too "cowardly" to confront her crush and tell him how she feels, but in the end, an event occurs that makes that impossible to happen, thus leading her to the "If you were to kill yourself," line. Sorry for rambling but this song absolutely means the world to me and has been one of my favorite songs since I was 13. Again, all songs are technically up for interpretation, but I think this theory has the most merit to it. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!!
Honestly, this is the best theory ive seen for yowamushi montblanc. Deco might be known for his songs about toxic relationships, but this just aint one of them lmao also dont get me started on the abortion theories 😭😭😭😭😭😭
i think it's kinda funny that i cried hard even just watching this video. thank you for highliting these great songs, minnemi! songs that put me in great misery: Aitou, Soshite Nichijou wa Tsuzuku - Ukaroku (death of the loved one, expirience of living through parting and funeral) Shoujo Rei - MikitoP (the story itself is very sad and it deals with themes of bullying, suicide, death of the loved one, guilt) I'm glad you're evil too - PinoccioP (doesn't deal with heavy things, but the theme of pure love makes me very emotional, so i cried countless times to it) dogdog - Abuse (suicidal ideation) /be careful if you want to listen to their's other songs, they deal with triggerung and heavy themes/ Melty land nightmare - Harumaki Gohan (parting with a loved one) Boku wo sonnna mede minaide - Kikuo (child death. basically every kikuo song can be put here let's be honest, but this one is the saddest one in my opinion)
A very emotional vocaloid song for me is an aliens “I love you” by Utsu-p. It deals with feeling lonely and not being able to fall in love with anyone because the singer (Miku) looks different. It nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it
Bonuses: Engeki by Nanou (Repressing emotions, wanting to end a cycle, whatever else kind of shit Mafuyu went through) Tokyo Ghetto by Eve (Depression, inability to fit in) phony by Tsumiki (Faking a personality) Umitagari by MARETU (Regret) Uminaoshi by MARETU (Regretting existing) Orange Irreel by Glue (More regret) Ayano's Theory of Happiness by Jin (Suicide, saying goodbye to loved ones for the last time) KalmiaDolls by Toripiyo (Bullying, abuse, loss of a loved one) Awaiting Clear Skies by Orangestar (Monophobia (fear of being alone), whatever else kind of shit Honami went through) Only Words That Pierce The Heart by MIMI (Wanting to be normal, wanting to be alone)
Tawagoto Speaker, Ayano’s theory of happiness (sadder with full context of kagepro), Lent Lily, Shinitai Chan, Goodbye (Circus P), Feathers across the seasons, Feathers in the rain (Aku P), Alone (Hakase K)
Soundless voice is the one song that will bring me to tears even though i haven't lost anyone yet because i truly fear the day that i lose someone like my mom.
Unknown mother goose hits me like a damn truck. I always get this sad feeling. I have cried with it. But I don’t know if I’m interpreting the lyrics or not. It just makes me very sad x’3 but I love it.
Ive cried to so many songs on this list it’s insane. Especially self inflicted achromatic, balsam, boys don’t cry, rolling girl, lie, and crier. I related to these songs so much at the lowest point of my life. Honorable mentions I’d add to this list would be; Patchwork Staccato (toa), Nonsense Speaker (nekobolo), Hitorinbo Envy (koyori), Reboot (JimmythumbP), Karakuri Pierrot (40mp), My R (KurageP), and When I was Absent from School (Kikuo). It’s also another list of songs I listened to. EDIT: just added the producers loll
I love Love Is War, Hirari, Hirari, Soundless Voice, Crier, Last Night, Good Night and Roling Girl (they're both good but the good kind of angst to vent to)
I really like "Rolling girl", I cry so much when i hear it. But also I would like to include "My R". My eyes are turning into waterfalls every time the song is playing.
Kimi wa dekinai ko, easy peasy euthanasia and ruru’s suicide show on a livestream (not a vocaloid song but it’s jrock) all bangers that hurt me emotionally
you're right.. the song is a banger but when i heard the story for ruru's suicide show on a live stream i cant listen bring myself to listen to the song anymore 😔
it's not just you buddy 👍 but seriously, there is hope out there for you. suicide is never an option for anyone, and i only wish the best for those who are genuinely struggling with these thoughts. stay strong.
Ikanaide caught me off guard at first because if the cheery melodies and vibes that i was getting over listening to it but then as i discovered that the meaning was different, i started to regret thinking that this was an upbeat song…
To me it's Please Give Me a Red Pen by Powapowa-P The beginning of the song, I can't quite describe the sound, but it's like rewinding (I can't really say how I feel w/o making it sound exaggerated) That and for the melody to come to an abrupt stop, before slowly building up and pretty much letting everything out I usually listen to rev's cover of this song, simply bc the UTAU gives off so much raw emotion (maybe of pent up stress?), I do find myself a lil bit teary eyed by the end of it, yet at the same time it feels like it's over the adrenaline rush I get from the ending is hard to express honestly I'm no avid listener of the producer, rest in peace, but I guess this song resonates in me
i feel too emotionally unstable to delve back in this, during teenage i adressed it to, well, teenage, but lately i'm realizing that's just how i feel most of the times, i love these kind of songs but the consequence is me losing myself in depressing thoughts more than the average day i already do.
I can relate to : "Crier, Ikanaide, Rolling Girl..."And it hits hard...And also I can also relate to "Hated by life itself"...Even so it's not on the list...
There something so human everytime listening to vocaloid voicebank singing about human struggle / misery. I want to recommend sad song that i personaly love and not in the video 1. Meteor (John Zeroness) = About loss of loved one and how the people that still live miss them and pray for them to come back 2. Astronaut (PowaPowa-P) = Also about loss of loved one and how the people that still live miss them and make them feel depressed/ Loss willing to live 3. Regret Message (MONTHY) = Grieve and feeling regret of what they did and not treat their loved one right 4. Life (Tamaazu-P) = Grow up older and getting more and more jaded/depressed with live and remembering how much passion and lively when they younger
Back in the day, my go to sad "Vocaloid" songs were specifically the cover of Irony by Lizz Robinett, the cover of Perfectionist Complex by JubyPhonic and the cover of Last Song by Yamai
honestly, some vocaloid songs make me cry because of the instrumental and voice and not necessarily the lyrics themselves, like ayano’s theory of happiness just because how soothingly(?) sad it sounds
It is absolutely criminal that no one (that I've seen) has mentioned Nanou's Depression of the Young Literati (文学少年の憂鬱). It's Dazai but in song form, absolutely phenomenal and very bleak. That song took me through so many rough hours.
Wrinkle by BuzzG and Hocus Pocus by Shikemoku are the ones most beautiful songs i've heard. They don't have anything I can relate to, but their stories almost bring tears to my eyes, like Reboot and One of Repetition...
I can't tell what's sadder. The fact people wrote sad songs based off their own emotions or experiences or the fact that people relate enough that it can bring them to tears
Both if I’m being honest,, it’s quite sad but it’s bittersweet in some way, seeing people relate to the feelings of the producers.
I think there's a beautiful catharsis to it, as a listener, being able to feel those emotions can help me understand my own, and as a Vocaloid producer, the idea that someone could experience the same thing listening to my music brings me joy
In that case They use that as coping mechanisms but it’s still sad cause I literally will cry to them
@@NeoLockethonestly I think listening to sad music (especially when you relate to it) and crying is a healthy thing to do. Sometimes you just need a good cry

That song made me feel grief unlike anything else in fiction. So much so that I feel like I can't watch it again.
Bonuses:
Engeki by Nanou (Repressing emotions, wanting to end a cycle, whatever else kind of shit Mafuyu went through)
Tokyo Ghetto by Eve (Depression, inability to fit in)
phony by Tsumiki (Faking a personality)
Umitagari by MARETU (Regret)
Uminaoshi by MARETU (Regretting existing)
Orange Irreel by Glue (More regret)
Ayano's Theory of Happiness by Jin (Suicide, saying goodbye to loved ones for the last time)
KalmiaDolls by Toripiyo (Bullying, abuse, loss of a loved one)
Awaiting Clear Skies by Orangestar (Monophobia (fear of being alone), whatever else kind of shit Honami went through)
Only Words That Pierce The Heart by MIMI (Wanting to be normal, wanting to be alone)
i know this is supposed to be a serious list but i audibly chuckled when i saw "or whatever kind of shit mafuyu/honami is going through"
Ofc I get this notification when I'm sad😭
BE HAPPY
(╥∆╥)
Tawagoto Speaker, Ayano’s theory of happiness (sadder with full context of kagepro), Lent Lily, Shinitai Chan, Goodbye (Circus P), Feathers across the seasons, Feathers in the rain (Aku P), Alone (Hakase K)
BROOO HIRARI HIRARI IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG IT HITS ME RIGHT IN THE FEELS EVERY TIME
Soundless voice is the one song that will bring me to tears even though i haven't lost anyone yet because i truly fear the day that i lose someone like my mom.
Thanks for putting this list together. Sometimes we all need a good cry. And it's good to let the tears flow, if possible.
guys wanna cry? get into powapowa and then listen to literally any song by him done now cry forever
I was just about to comment his name, mf got me crying like a little bitch every time 🥲
Tokyo teddy bear is my personal crying go-to song
Glow by keeno always leaves me feeling just a slight bit empty
Rolling girl has gotten me crying so many times
Reboot has made me full on sob it is so good
ALL of these are complete bangers, and the producers behind them are geniuses.
THE FACT THAT THE NOSTALGIA IS MAKING ME CRY MORE THAN HOW SAD THE SONGS ARE TT…Been watching you for awhile, thanks for the playlist
rolling girl always had me in tears when i listened to it during quarantine cause i was so lonely 😭
(⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃
Sorry to You (Faye feat GUMI) will always be in my sad underrated vocaloid song.
I now expect a 47 part series to cover all the sad songs.
I love Love Is War, Hirari, Hirari, Soundless Voice, Crier, Last Night, Good Night and Roling Girl (they're both good but the good kind of angst to vent to)
I really like "Rolling girl", I cry so much when i hear it. But also I would like to include "My R". My eyes are turning into waterfalls every time the song is playing.
cries profusely
Kimi wa dekinai ko, easy peasy euthanasia and ruru’s suicide show on a livestream (not a vocaloid song but it’s jrock) all bangers that hurt me emotionally
you're right.. the song is a banger but when i heard the story for ruru's suicide show on a live stream i cant listen bring myself to listen to the song anymore 😔
I THOUGHT JUST BE FRIENDS WAS LIKE A PEACE AND LOVE KINDA SONG OH MY GOD
My favorit is from y and y, I always cry listening to it.
I want to add glow to the list as well. I burst into tears everytime I hear this song.
Wake up it's time to cry
I relate to self-inflicted achromatic.. does anyone else relate to it aswell?
it really hits close to home
it's not just you buddy 👍
but seriously, there is hope out there for you. suicide is never an option for anyone, and i only wish the best for those who are genuinely struggling with these thoughts. stay strong.
Raises hand
Me too, it's like a comfort song to me :')
it reminds me of my friend
wrist cutter by tonbo makes me WEEP IT SOUNDS SO TRAGIC
little parade was my go-to sad song, althought vibing was stronger than being sad while lustening to it
I can relate to 85% of the songs at 12 years old
im pretty sure just be friends baited everyone that it was a cheerful song with happy lyrics, theres just no way to tell if you dont look at the MV 😭
I'll be honest
I don't think any song will hit me quite as hard as "Please Give me a Red Pen" did
That and healthy end yeah
The absolute crime of Reboot by JimmyThumb-P not being here
so glad you added puzzle here in this list , its my favorite song
Ikanaide caught me off guard at first because if the cheery melodies and vibes that i was getting over listening to it but then as i discovered that the meaning was different, i started to regret thinking that this was an upbeat song…
Hated by Life Itself is missing, I always have to cry listening to that song :(
To me it's Please Give Me a Red Pen by Powapowa-P
The beginning of the song, I can't quite describe the sound, but it's like rewinding (I can't really say how I feel w/o making it sound exaggerated)
That and for the melody to come to an abrupt stop, before slowly building up and pretty much letting everything out
I usually listen to rev's cover of this song, simply bc the UTAU gives off so much raw emotion (maybe of pent up stress?), I do find myself a lil bit teary eyed by the end of it, yet at the same time it feels like it's over the adrenaline rush I get from the ending is hard to express honestly
I'm no avid listener of the producer, rest in peace, but I guess this song resonates in me
Thank you for putting crier and balsam on here. They hit so close to home and need to be more known about- 😢
thanks minnemi i needed this 👍
Just watching this video makes me cry, even though I've already heard like half of these songs many times.
Crier, Coward Montblanc, FREAKING *BALSAM??* , all the memories came flooding back
These songs make me go UGHH 😭 i think -ERROR and abuse ken's songs like dogdog are emotional too
0:33 I remember being a preteen and crying to this one, just hearing the first notes unlocked the memory to me
i feel too emotionally unstable to delve back in this, during teenage i adressed it to, well, teenage, but lately i'm realizing that's just how i feel most of the times, i love these kind of songs but the consequence is me losing myself in depressing thoughts more than the average day i already do.
I remember listening to my first vocaloid song which reduced me to tears, that song was the paper plane which tells a tragic story
crying to jishoumushoku just hits so differently
I can relate to : "Crier, Ikanaide, Rolling Girl..."And it hits hard...And also I can also relate to "Hated by life itself"...Even so it's not on the list...
2:16 Ridiculously relatable.
Siinamota's/PowaPowa-P songs should be here 😢
True, I still tear up over his songs even when I’ve known him for years now
There something so human everytime listening to vocaloid voicebank singing about human struggle / misery. I want to recommend sad song that i personaly love and not in the video
1. Meteor (John Zeroness) = About loss of loved one and how the people that still live miss them and pray for them to come back
2. Astronaut (PowaPowa-P) = Also about loss of loved one and how the people that still live miss them and make them feel depressed/ Loss willing to live
3. Regret Message (MONTHY) = Grieve and feeling regret of what they did and not treat their loved one right
2:58 I ALMOST CRIED WHILE LISTENING TO THIS
Me too 😭
Casually keeps this in my mental notes for oc playlists/cover ideas
If you’re reading this, this is your sign to just make a sad playlist to cry to.
Self-Harm Colorless made me cried the most 😭😭😭, Thanks for thr video btw!
Hirari Hirari nearly makes me cry at the fact that it touches on losing loved ones. I had lost so much family in the past decade.
It is absolutely criminal that no one (that I've seen) has mentioned Nanou's Depression of the Young Literati (文学少年の憂鬱). It's Dazai but in song form, absolutely phenomenal and very bleak. That song took me through so many rough hours.
I don't wanna go back to old me again its traumatizing how already is.😶
I absolutely love hirari hirari, I feel like she isn’t talked about enough
I always cry when i listen to Reboot, it's the saddest song I know by far🤧
Now I wanna cry
Because I relate to so many of these
cry era real moment
Hello!!
welp, that is going to the midnight playlist.
Just be friends best song frfr
One I would include is Nocturnal Chicken March. It hits really close to home during my worst depressive periods. So does The Worst Person.
Wrinkle by BuzzG and Hocus Pocus by Shikemoku are the ones most beautiful songs i've heard. They don't have anything I can relate to, but their stories almost bring tears to my eyes, like Reboot and One of Repetition...
Great list all very sad but I think young girl A/girl A should be on here very heart breaking especially since the creator ended there own life
