Honestly i like the original story way more... Less meta 4th wall breaking jokes, less Elder Chtulhu and everything being pointless bc in the multiverse our victory means nothing, codes told only via streams of developers and other bs, dialogues and motivation of the antagonist was written differently, the ending was bittersweet and actually meant smth. I hate what they did with Afterlife....
Nah Afterlife has a much better story. The original left so many things unanswered and the ending was a bad one, being trapped in Thalamus nightmare in NG+, endlessly being tormented. The side-characters were also just nowhere near as fleshed-out in the original.
