I'm glad to hear it's held up for you. I haven't been working with it for long but it's worked great so far - I riffle shuffle, and the True Heart cardstock holds up well to repeated riffling. Some decks become bent after just a few shuffles, so I have to shuffle them backwards to fix the bend. That hasn't happened yet with the True Heart. Also I appreciate the lovely guidebook.
I do wish they would clean up the resolution in the Tarot of the Moon Garden. Still love that deck to pieces. I've also been tempted by Tarot by Caro and Oak, Ash, and Thorn. Loved this so much, Katey 💜
I remember how close you were to rebuying the Tarot of a Moon Garden during my live unboxing. Some of my cards are a little fuzzy too, I didn't realise it was specific to the later printings, what a bummer. I adore my True Heart Intuitive Tarot, it's easily my fave deck of 2021 (admittedly I didn't get many decks last year). I had held off buying it due to all the comments on the cardstock but I finally caved and I am so glad I did. Sure the cardstock isn't the best but I can still riffle shuffle it (which is super important to me) and the guidebook is just *chefs kiss*. I really enjoyed this Katey, thank you for sharing.
2021 deck purchases are sending me into window-shopping only mode. This year focusing on a few good tarot books. That being said, I keep my eye on the Cosma Visions Oracle, Cosmic Dream Tarot, Dulac Tarot and Faunabelle Tarot.
The Apparition Deck, bought 3ish years ago, has not left my reading table since. Love it. I hope you're reconsidering this deck, you will not be disappointed.
I so agree about the Slow Tarot Devil card. It just kind if blew me away.. the artwork and deck just called me, so Im so pleased I watched a full flip through. And.. I find it interesting that Thd Lightseers and Mary El had cards changed because of ghe public out cry. Why not this one?
I love A Deck For Wonder Walking!! I really like Vessel Oracle as well. ❤😊 Some of the decks you've shared I hadn't even heard of. I did also consider the Oak Ash + Thorn but for me what didn't work was I think it's squirrels for cups? They just are so 'earth' to me that it throws me off -- and I live in a forest/lake region so there are plenty of animals I see all the time that are water-dwellers that would've also fit the 'forest' theme. It's gorgeous though, and I too definitely see why it's so well loved.
The Cosmic Slumber Tarot is one I had in my cart for the longest time and finally decided to purchase. I love the color palate but not necessarily that style of artwork and the individual cards weren’t pulling me in. Those cards work for me most of the time dispute initial misgivings, possibly because the people are more like PCS than I have seen before. Readings are either really good or not even close. I have only backed one deck on Kickstarter and lost my money on it.

I really wanted the decolonized tarot but purchased the fantoma tarot instead & was disappointed. I wish I had spent a bit more $ for the decolonized tarot. Still thinking on it.
I absolutely adore the Morning Calm…. It’s just a beautiful deck with many lovely messages and then a few call you out messages. Fun video! Thanks, Katey
Love hearing your thought process with how you make deck purchasing decisions. With a bunch of indie decks I came very close to purchasing but ultimately the high cost and very high shipping have deterred me. This is after I did indulge in 2 costly indie decks and came to regret the amount spent that cannot be recovered. I nearly purchased: The Gentle Tarot, The Spacious Tarot, the Majestic Earth Tarot, The Fountain Tarot, The Field Tarot, The Bohemian Animal Tarot, The Wayhome Tarot, Orien Tarot... And a few more. They were in my basket and I almost hit purchase. Maybe I'll find the right opportunity to get them at some point but so far I'm glad to have held off.
Sooo glad I found your channel. I've been studying tarot for about four years now and absolutely love seeing this kind of content. I went back and forth on Tarot by Caro, but inevitably purchased it during a Black Friday sale. It is absolutely stunning and something unique to my collection.
Oooohhhh I got Tarot by Caro and saved it all the way until dec so I could use it for Xmas because red, green and gold lol. I’m a dork. But a happy dork. I love the deck. No regrets. You are right in that it’s nothing soul changing (so far), but the choices work for me and some are cute and clever, it makes me smile and it feels like an extension of my arm when I’m holding it, and not that this matters but the box is my favorite of anything I own and I love opening it everyday. So, I’m enjoying it this month. Plus I think that three of pentacles is my favorite in all of my decks. Granted I don’t have as many as some lol. The decks I went back and forth about this year was Tarot for kids(don’t need it at all but it’s cute, It’s a wish list deck but I probably won’t buy it) and Golden Art Nouveau ( reeeeealy don’t need yet another RWS plus zero diversity, but the bling! Not gonna lie, I’ll prob get this one eventually but I’ve waited this long so now I’m taking my time Before I buy it to search for something with diversity that scratches this bling itch before I pull the trigger), Mystical moments ( which I’ve completely decided against because of diversity and exactly like you said I don’t want to knowingly bring that into my collection but I do like to watch others use it but I’ll never buy it) and I’ve been going back and forth for years over the mermaid tarot and I put it on my wishlist every year with no luck so I think I’m going to just get it. I’m feeling mermaids and animals for 2022.
ahhhh i’ve never heard of Decolonized Tarot. thank you for bringing that one up. I looked it up as soon as you mentioned it, and it’s sooooo beautiful. I got emotional watching the promotion video. now I’m stalking it. thank you Katey ommmmggggg!!!
Hi Katey, The Ash, Oak and Thorn Tarot is awesome........ I so understand what you're saying when you talk about animal's decks and animal decks without Australian animals. I totally get it. But until this deck is in your hands, and you have in right in front of you. Thats when the magic happens.... you fall in............ into the cards and honestly, it's like it hypnotise you somehow. It really is that beautiful in real and the card stock to amazing also. It's such a Thrill to own and Use this deck. It's gentle in its appearance, but it still deliveries messages that need to be heard...in a way that is direct and knowing. Oooo my golly. I truely hope some day you take a chance on it. Love your work Katey, for all your wonderful you tube videos. I totally love them .........Terri
Taro by Caro is stunning -- the artwork, the color palette, the skin tones, and the artist's interpretations. Also, the cardstock is sumptuous (and it comes in a lovely, sturdy box). There's not much of anything in terms of a LWB (although the deck is clearly based on RWS), but other than that, I love it, and It's a purchase I'm very glad I made.
The Wandering Star - YES! I WANTED to love it but each face, their countenance was the same. I was getting Stepford Wife vibes. I really wanted to love it. :(
The same things held me back from a deck for wonder walking. I didn’t know that pink (moon void) was called millennial pink. Maybe jealous that gen gets to claim it. Haha window shopping is all about pretending we might buy it lol I’ve window shopped the practical magic tarot a few times.
Tarot by Caro is one that I love but probably won't buy, simply because I don't need another deck to do the job that one would fill in my collection. But it is so cool! I think I would have to cull one to get it. I nearly backed Healing Waves, but chose a different Ocean deck instead and I haven't bought the Hidden Realms Tarot even though I love the artwork because I just don't work with Fae energy. The Field Tarot is another that I am still on the fence about buying. The Golden Wheel Tarot... so almost did... but I will wait til next winter instead.
I really like Tarot by Caro; the cardstock isn't spectacular but it will do. The cards look so good in a spread. The Slow Tarot is pretty but a little too Norman Rockwell for me--too suburbia or something. I don't really mind the Devil IF there were other people with larger body sizes in the deck, but agreed, to have it the only one in such a negative context is in poor taste. I also talked myself out of The True Heart because of card stock, and decided I don't need the Curious Creatures deck from Chris Anne because it seems a bit gimmicky to me--sticking animal faces on human bodies. Thanks for your rundown, Katey.
Tarot of a Moon Garden was my first tarot deck too. Still love it. I use it for moon cycles spreads, but its messages are so gentle, sometimes I need a harsher deck.
Great video 🙂. It is interesting to know how many aspects are to be taken into account before purchasing.. I do the same, thinking of whether it really suits me and whether I will really use it. Thank you for sharing it. Best regards, Lior
I know the not outside the U.S. blues. I was wanting to get the depths of the ocean oracle and turns out for whatever reason they don’t ship to Australia. Understandable for reasons of course but I wasn’t happy about that.
@@becominggomez1435 It's the cardstock that make you know that it's a short living deck... Kinda like cheap business cards, not made to be shuffled... The book is amazing, though!
@@becominggomez1435 I think you’ll be fine! I bought True Heart this year and I love it! For me, I felt the cards were sturdy enough while still being flexible and I have no trouble shuffling it! But I understand people’s comments on the cardstock, it’s not super slippery but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s not worth buying. To me, it’s just average. I love my deck and I’m able to work really well with it :)
@@arielchester101 well thats nice to hear, if i feel like it wont stand my shuffling ill just use it as a study deck. And if i really like it alot ill just get a back up deck 🤣
@@becominggomez1435 I got the deck last year and my cards have held up fine with regular use! The box fell apart almost immediately though lol, so definitely get a bag/cloth/etc for the cards just in case. The cardstock is definitely thin but I do think the hate for the deck is kinda overblown! If you overhand shuffle it'll be fine but you definitely can't riffle shuffle with that deck.
very fun video. I've had the Plant Tarot and The Zillach Tarot in my basket for months. I have like 6 tarot decks, so they're more of a want than a need. Someday though
Agree with Tarot of the Moon Garden it's in my basket of decks I'm getting rid of, lots love it but the print seems so grainy. Cosmic slumber reads fab and Slow tarot, well what can I say. It is my favourite deck for card stock, I've never shuffled anything like it. The imagery is sublime and being a lady that has struggled with her weight all her life I honestly relate to the devil card! It doesn't touch a nerve but I can see why it would with some.
I found that Devil card in The Slow Tarot so incredibly offensive, definitely noped right out of there. It's an absolute no go for me, especially as a fat person. Instead, I bought The Fat Folks Tarot, featuring diverse fat bodies AND supporting a trans charity. The Oak, Ash, and Thorn is beautiful and I LOVE animal decks. I opted not to purchase it because it only uses one species for each suit. Just didn't resonate with me. I did pre-order the Smoke, Ash, and Embers dragon based Tarot though. 😊 It's the only dragon deck that's really resonated with me. This year I didn't buy very many decks, compared to other years. I've become more mindful of my purchases and tend to try to watch walk throughs of any decks I'm considering before I buy them. Doing that has helped me to not buy decks that I thought I'd like but on seeing all the cards I realized I just probably wouldn't use them very much. The one deck I pre-ordered without watching a walk through I ended up REALLY not liking, unfortunately. I was so disappointed by it. Still trying to decide if I want to publish the video I made sharing my absolute disappointment with the deck, because it's totally subjective.
Almost bought so many decks but with deck prices getting higher and higher it's been all too easy to not click the checkout button. I've set a budget for myself and have decided to not buy any decks over $45 unless I can think of 10 reasons why I want it. Usually I can only think of 4 😂. I have the Morning Calm Oracle and unfortunately barely use it. The art is gorgeous but I just don't have a strong enough connection to the culture it is based in, so I'm probably going to sell it to someone who does. I also have the True Heart Intuitive Tarot, and while the cardstock is BAD I've been using it consistently for almost a year now and it still holds up! So many reviews have discouraged people from getting the deck which is a shame.
I don't have The Slow Tarot. But it's the first devil card I thought the devil looks hot in- to be honest. :) That scene of temptation definitely is accurate for me. It is actually the card that tempted me to buy the deck. So I guess people see things differently. I am saying this as a proud gay heavy set woman. Love your videos and discussions
Agree. Hot woman at a bacchanal. I love that she's looking directly at the reader, too, like a challenge. I'm fat myself, and I understand fat ppl don't want to be associated with debauchery, and it is a mega rude thing to do if that's the only overweight person in the deck. I interpret the card as being sexy tho, which gives it an additional layer and makes it acceptable to me. IDK what the artist's intentions were tho.
omg I thought it was just me. I didn’t want to comment because I felt weird for liking it. I love the devil card. I don’t have the deck because the rest of the deck looks boring. the devil is the best part of the deck. haha.
@@Arcturas66 Yes I totally agree with that. I would buy the deck for that card, but the rest of the cards don't speak to me, so I didn't buy it. That devil card sure does though :) wish I could just get that card
Great video! I talked myself out of wildwood tarot, which I still plan to purchase in the future, but this year the edition I coud have bought seems to have big issues with printing (wrong titles on the cards), and I would have to order from a different country to get another edition, which means shipping costs and maybe even tax. Nearly did it anyway, but finally decided I will wait until the printing problem versions are all called back and new versions are in the stores here.
Fun video, thanks Katey. I became obsessed by the Luna Soleil tarot by Terra Soleil on etsy but the shipping and everything has me thinking maybe later. At first I thought it was boring but then was drawn in by the minimalism and colour palette options and bronze effects
I just bought Rachel’s deck. Cardstock was fine but I returned them ( bought 2) because it felt too simple for beginners. It was so to speak, dummied down
I got so excited, I have to post twice. FIRST - Response to some decks in this video: Tarot For All Ages - It's on my wishlist, and I hope someone buys it for me for Xmas! True Heart Intuitive Tarot - Have it, haven't opened it yet. I hope I can tolerate the card stock! Tarot de Carlotydes - Felt tempted by this recently. But I think I am letting that pass. Yes, more diversity of several kinds would have been better. Apparition Tarot - Have it. LOVE it! I think this deck is very rewarding with its different takes on imagery/meanings! Vessel - Have it, but haven't opened it yet. Guided Hands Tarot - Have it and love it, but need to work with it more. A collage style and colours I love! Practical Magic Tarot - Have it, and really like it. I need to work with it more. To me it seems a more hip/modern take on collage even though it's so retro -- does that make sense? Also, created by a woman of colour! Laughing Eye Weeping Eye Tarot - I have been tempted for years, but decided against it. Instead I got her new Kickstarted Shadowspeak oracle deck, and I'm excited to start working with it! Morning Calm - Yes, it is tempting, but I fear I wouldn't work with it enough. Beautiful, however. OK Tarot - I keep feeling tempted also. But I don't know if I would really click with such a minimalistic deck. Tarot by Caro -- I have it, and it is so lovely!!! I love folk-y art! I haven't worked with it yet. But I could look at it all day long!
I love my Tarot of the Moon deck!! It made have been made in the 90's but it brings me back to my own teen youth in the 70's...my print quality is fine btw. Maybe it was just that one deck was off?
Katey, we have such similar taste! I own the Cosmic Slumber tarot. I don’t use it a whole lot, but I couldn’t resist the colors and whimsy of it. I also want the Oak, Ash, and Thorn, but I don’t have the money for everything I want 🙂 thank you, as always, for your videos! (This is Megan by the way). 🙂
There needs to be more decks I nearly get but don't. Lol. I really want the Morning Calm Oracle. I spent a year in South Korea and I know it'll really resonate with me. I just haven't got it yet. I'm fact it is the ONLY deck on my wish list right now. I missed backing the SEAMS tarot. Just cause I wasn't watching and missed the deadline. So maybe that will be one I get next year? The Labyrinth Tarot I didn't get because I wasn't mad about the art style and the pips were very basic - not for me despite my being a huge fan. The new African Goddess oracle are on my mind but I've not purchased yet. Oh and Oak Ash and Thorn. So pretty and I met the creator and she's lovely! I want to support her but... animal decks are not for me. Likewise her new dragon deck alas.
I love these videos, thank you for thinking of such great topics. I bought Tarot of the Moon Garden but haven’t had a chance to work with it yet. I don’t remember the line work being messed up, maybe they fixed it… I often shop by just putting it in my cart but then changing my mind. I try to leave my cart for a few days to research the deck further and more often than not I end up not purchasing the deck. I’m still on the fence about the Northern Animal deck, it’s beautiful but I’d rather have the 2nd edition on KS rn…. 🤗🌹♊️💯
Same opinions on The Decolonized Tarot as it hits right through my culture and I'd like to have it even if it's not my aesthetic at all... Wished they made some minor arcana by now but I'm still hesitant and I never backed a single thing on kickstarter so... 😂. So just checked the KS again and they say this about the minors: “The Minor Arcana will be fully fleshed out, full-color, high-resolution illustrations just like the Major Arcana.”
YES! About Moon Garden tarot, like i had same issue with Barbara Walker Tarot. My mother has the first edition and its beautyfull and so i bought edition from 2017 and for me its complete shit. Like the colours are diffrent and faded. Also the line as here are pretty messed up like someone would take of his/hers glasess xd And this really piss me of , like why they changed the quality ... and made so bad
The crappy production quality, I felt that😭 I recently bought a (indie) deck I've been wanting forever, but this new 2021 print is so low quality. The cards are cut so poorly, the corner rounder they used must not be sharp enough or something because they're jagged and peeling right off the box and now I don't know what to do with it😭
I didn’t know anything about the Slow Tarot until you mentioned it here, and I find it truly remarkable that two people can look at the same images and experience such different reactions! When you mentioned your problem with the Devil card, I had to see what you meant-but what I saw was a gorgeous woman (who had posed for live studio sessions for the Devil card, definitely also for the 4 of Coins, and very possibly for the 2 of Cups as well). Is she larger than what the MSM would deem “perfect”…? Yes. (So am I, for that matter.) And as I look at more of the cards, I can tell you that the Empress isn’t exactly a waif either. I am sensitive to certain trigger words/themes as well, so I do understand why you initially became upset by what you thought was a “fat, ugly Devil.” However, I would just challenge you to revisit these images (the Devil, the 4 of Coins, and the 2 of Cups, and yes, even the Empress) with a kinder, gentler eye. That Devil is beautiful (but all of the cards I mentioned here are beautiful to me). Please don’t take this the wrong way, because I don’t mean to upset you-but I think saying (to the artist?), “Okay. I get it. You hate fat people!” is a bit offensive and incredibly insensitive, not only to the artist, but to the models as well. And it doesn’t get much more inclusive. I almost wonder if we were looking at the same pictures! Well, anyhoo-I adore your channel, but had to speak up when it seemed like you-Katey Flowers! A kind soul who usually promotes diversity and inclusivity on her channel-fat-shamed the Devil. (Tongue-in-cheek there…we all need a bit more laughter…) 💖💖💖
I don't think she was fat shaming the Devil card, I think her pick with it is that the plumpest person in the whole deck is portrayed in a card about overindulgence and succumbing to temptation, with a whole table of desserts behind her. While the card is gorgeous 😍, I can see where she's coming from with that. It must seem like the card is equating fat people to overindulgence. And the 4 of coins and 2 of cups are definitely the same model, but not the same one as the Devil, but maybe I'm just looking wrong!
@@TickingClocks But why does "temptations" need to be represented by an assumption of gluttony? That is fat phobia. I and many people are fat because we're disabled and dealing with chronic illness, NOT because we "gave in to temptation." Many of us are fat because we take medicines that cause weight gain or are disabled so we can't exercise, or have thyroid or other metabolic conditions that make losing weight difficult to impossible no matter what we eat or how much we exercise if able. The list goes on and on... Or we don't have the money to buy the more expensive healthy foods, because healthier foods ARE expensive. Or we live in a food desert and make do with what foods we have access to. Issues of food access, poverty, and more. Being fat isn't just caused by "giving in to temptation." That giving in to temptation is represented as being fat and an assumption of gluttony and giving in to temptations is the height of fat phobia, fat shaming, and ableism. It is highly offensive and problematic.
@@TickingClocks To me, the equation of fat people to overindulgence was further driven home by the bonus trump card, titled "Atonement." This card takes place in what looks like it may well be the same location, with a similar picnic feast of (now half-eaten) dessert foods spread out, except that this time, the only person depicted is a fully-dressed slender woman with her back turned to the picnic spread, tossing food to the ducks in the river. This made it really hard for me to see the implications of the Devil card as anything other than fat woman = gluttony = giving in to temptation = eating food. To atone, apparently, one must refrain from eating food oneself and cast it aside or serve it to others instead. Of course, I realize that other readings are surely possible. But for me, that Atonement card really cemented the more fatphobic reading of the Temptation card and made it pretty much impossible for me to feel okay about the deck as a whole.
@@thrivingselfcarerenee The table of desserts right behind her is what made the card feel as if it was implying a connection to her weight and overindulgence. Without that, the card would have been fine imo, but hey, it's up to the artist. Seeing that card as a thicker Asian woman myself made me uncomfortable, and sure that could be a shadow work thing and I wouldn't accuse the creator of fatphobia, but it does seem a bit odd that the biggest person in the whole deck is represented in such a way. We can agree to disagree on that.
@@elkins4406 Oh wow I just saw the card and yeah...definitely caught the feeling that it's supposed to be the flipside of that Devil card. Because what is she atoning for exactly? Eating food?
I manage to buy the Druid craft tarot deck with the big guide book.

The Ash, Oak and Thorn Tarot is awesome........
Your intro is so soothing for me!
King king king Katey. I love you.
I am going to be truthful. I don't have a nearly brought but didn't list. I only have a wish lish for future buys😂😂
True Heart: I knew the cardstock was terrible, and I STILL got disappointed! I don't recommend, but the book really is awesome!
Oh Man I just bought it on amazon 😭 is it really that bad?????
I love the moon void, it is way better in person in my opinion. Definitely keep it on the list. 🥰
@@jellybebe2753 Hi JE, Exactly feel the same way. Have a good day :)
omg I thought it was just me. I didn’t want to comment because I felt weird for liking it. I love the devil card. I don’t have the deck because the rest of the deck looks boring. the devil is the best part of the deck. haha.
I agree as well, My feeling for this card is the devil is hot and in control of all of people and the entire situation depicted.
I love these kinds of videos. Thank you. Love your eyes today 🥰💐
Fun video, thanks Katey. I became obsessed by the Luna Soleil tarot by Terra Soleil on etsy but the shipping and everything has me thinking maybe later. At first I thought it was boring but then was drawn in by the minimalism and colour palette options and bronze effects
I'm glad I thought about it because what I really want is the Dame Darcy Mermaid tarot! Why don't I already have this? !
I have talked myself out of the silhouettes tarot on kickstarter
Me too. I do think it's beautiful, but I'm trying to be more disciplined about my purchases lately.
@@elkins4406 Same here, so many beautiful decks but not enough lifetime to learn and use them all.
I just bought Rachel’s deck. Cardstock was fine but I returned them ( bought 2) because it felt too simple for beginners. It was so to speak, dummied down
I got so excited, I have to post twice. FIRST - Response to some decks in this video:
Tarot For All Ages - It's on my wishlist, and I hope someone buys it for me for Xmas!
But I could look at it all day long!
where did you get that necklace? 😍
I love my Tarot of the Moon deck!! It made have been made in the 90's but it brings me back to my own teen youth in the 70's...my print quality is fine btw. Maybe it was just that one deck was off?
I'm waiting too for the full deck of Not Colonial cus my DiL is Filipina and does tarot...but for the price, I'd rather wait till it's complete.
The cards are cut so poorly, the corner rounder they used must not be sharp enough or something because they're jagged and peeling right off the box and now I don't know what to do with it😭
I'd talk to the creator myself
Being fat isn't just caused by "giving in to temptation."
That giving in to temptation is represented as being fat and an assumption of gluttony and giving in to temptations is the height of fat phobia, fat shaming, and ableism.
Salty title ..
how?? it is just facts and what the video is
