My friend had the same problem with his C5. He was going to bin the helmet until i sent him your video last night. Following your instructions the problem is now solved and money saved.
This fix works... my C5 visor used to dependably slam shut at about 42 mph. After performing this modification the visor will stay where I want it, up to about 55 mph, even a little faster. My helmet is a Euro market model. The visor ratchet control disks that were modified are slightly different on my helmet than the ones featured in this video, but a flat rectangular needle file made the job easy enough. The 8mm flat bottom milling bit is exactly right for adjusting the bottom of the inner recess, which actually measures 8.5mm. Considering the price of this otherwise great helmet it is a shame we need to do these things!
Just followed this modification and the visor stayed up at 80 mphh Previously i tried the o ring but that allowed the visor to move too far back when open and it damaged the finish on the helmet! Thanks for figuring this out and posting your fix. I'll be tuning in for the Motoscan tutorials as I've got one of those for my 125 GSA.
This is just what I needed. I will try this. Bought my first Schuberth and I have been very annoyed with this issue. Especially during summer. Great solution and explanation. Thank you!!
I have seen people suggest O-rings. The o-rings that were recommended were really small and, when I tried it, the visor no longer locked in as the levers would not return to their place like yours was. I love my helmet and don’t ride with the visor up a lot, but I had taken to tipping my head back so the wind catches it and holds it open. Your windshield will make a difference in that. Mine are lower than most.
After doing my modifications, my Schuberth C5 is a good helmet. Its ashame that a company like Schuberth don't made this modified part for people who has this visor problem. Every Schuberth dealer could change that part for the new part, while you wait.
@@TheOldMechanic I think they all have this problem. Those who ride a lot with the visor open notice it more than those who ride primarily with the visor closed. What was the point in adding in the detents if they were not intended to have the visor stay in place at speed? The “memory function” is not very useful if the visor closes every time one goes for a ride.
Great explanation m..!! Thank you m. I have both issues on my own and my wife’s helmets. I managed to do the second fix by shaving some of the notch off the visor which worked. Will never buy (stupid) Schuberth again. For what you spend and the issues you end up with.. not worth it.. they should have a recall and sort it out.. also the rattle in the inner visor 🤨
Way safer solution, but it presses the visor outwards, not sure if that matters. I tried it and did not like it. But this guy with the strong dutch accent is the only one (watched many vids about the C5 fixes) who found the real issue and solved it properly. Schuberth should have done better and should send replacements to customers with this problem!
My visor shuts ok, but the plastic face shield doesn't seat tight when closed. It's closed probably far enough, but it's not closed onto the fiberglass helmet. It does form a seal with the rubber I believe. I haven't used the helmet yet. Maybe it needs to be tighter? Have you noticed this? Thanks for making the video.
Good morning. I recently acquired a Schuberth C4 Pro from a friend, and for me there's a problem, not the visor, but the flip-up is very light, that is, it falls right away, without much of a jolt. Any way to adjust?? Thank you from Portugal.
Don't worry, maybe Schuberth watched my video and took action 😂 But if they didn't you know where to look for a solution. Yesterday I drove my beemer and my visor stayed open up to 130 km/h 😉
Want the 2 second fix? Put an O ring that fits into the interior circumference of the visor piece. The piece that fits into helmet. It creates enough friction to hold the visor in position a lot better. Good luck! 👍
Because of ECE 22.06...? The Schuberth C3 Pro has te same issues and was launched way back in 2014 when there was no ECE 22.06.... Hopefully this mod will also work on the C3 Pro
@@TheOldMechanic I hope so, it has a similar ratchet system with notches. I've heard somewhere that Schuberth's answer to this problem was: it is a safety thing. It is dangerous riding with an open visor so that's why this mechanism is constructed this way...😎 Pinokkio...? 🤪
exactly. had the C5 right when it came out and experienced these issues. Got it fixed by the dealer for free in about an hour. Already back then they had an advisory from factory to also grease those points.
@@TheOldMechanic that’s a fair point just thought the e2 with the peak (c5 with a slightly bigger chin bar and a peak) would suit the bmw image better as it dose for me 😂😂
This is the worst helmet I’ve ever bought/owned. The most expensive also. Visor doesn’t just flop down at highway speed, it leaks like a siv when it rains and it all pours in the top of the visor. I’ve never seen that happen before. Schubert should send us parts that work. Why would I want to do all this to make a brand new helmet not a piece of sht?
Totally agree. The visor comes down the moment I go about 20mph which is frustrating when filtering, especially in the summer heat!I bought the C5 because I thought it was a quality brand, but it’s awful. Feels so flimsy and cheap compared to other brands of a similar price (Shoei). I’ve had mine 2 years and it’s already very loose fitting around my head, despite no changes to my weight. Very disappointed.
Agree, the build quality is nowhere near C4 pro, lining is cheap compared to pro.I reluctantly had to purchase c5 as I could no longer find new c4 pro in my size, due to loss of my 4 year c4 pro.
The worth helmet I ever purchased ! Mine was pissing water into the visor, I sent it back to Schubert on warranty, they replaced the rubber at the top of the visor and the visor (+ new Pinlock), it is now leaking less, but still leaks... I hate this helmet.

Good to know 👍🏻👍🏻😉🍺
Thanks, appreciate the silicone grease tip, my C5 had the same issue (struggled to seal/close the visor properly), the grease resolved it.. :)
Glad it helped 😁

Seen a fix for this by putting a 32 or 35x2mm o ring round the visor mounting points.

I've just done 1k miles with it and no problem. It's a 22x2mm o ring, btw.

Funny, you buy 500 eur helmet and then need to finalize production by yourself:)

Hello, I've seen your video twice but I can't understand what you did to solve the visor problem, could you help me please? greetings
I live in Scotland I need my visor close at all times past 30mph😅😅
Helmet is coming tomorrow seeing this title had me worried lol

Where did you get the small BMW stickers you put on ur helmet. Link please
The road fix solution is using lotion (on your fingers) instead silicone. Done it on the last vacation trip.
Super !!! Compliments and thanks , now my helmet is perfect

Just so another video, a rubber O ring was used and it solved the issue.
