hi, i'm a learning how to lion dance in a school club. i tried the head on for the first time today and really blew it, so im trying to practice at home. i saw you using a laundry basket in one of your videos (likely as a joke), but i tried it and it actually felt very similar to the way i was taught to hold the lion head. do you think this is a good method of practicing, or is the basket too light to really simulate using the head?
Hi, bruh! No stress; I also did poorly when starting out :) The laundry basket was not meant as a joke, it does somewhat match the “bulkiness” of a lion head! 1. Like you noted, it IS too light but is a good opportunity to practice your footwork and stances (馬步). 2. I would also go through the head movement drills your club teaches so your body gets used to them, even if the laundry-head is light. Muscle memory will help later! 3. Laundry baskets usually have more “holes” than a regular lion head to see through. Use this to practice angling the basket so that the when you’re in the lion for real, the eyes are aimed at an “audience” and not at the “sky.” I see a lot of beginners tilt the lion head too high up because they’re trying to look through the lion’s mouth and forget that the lion’s eyes are above the top of the dancer’s head. Nice lion, so sad about the horn 😢. What did they do about the horn being broken?
You can slowly pull it back up to frame. We ended up doing an awakening ceremony as well so the ribbon covers it anyways.

Where do you put the lettuce after you grab do you hold when you are performing im confused
We usually pass the lettuce to the tail (back person) to rip up if we are sitting. Then when they are done they pass it back to the head to throw.
