Wow, this piece is gorgeous! My very first piece I ever painted (before selling my work) was our dining room buffet and I did it with Annie’s Louis Blue, Waverly’s Elephant and Annie’s clear/dark wax. I watched a video of Kacha using these same colors/waxes about 500 times LOL, bc I had NO idea what I was doing and the dark wax was so intimidating. But you are absolutely right about how easy it is to use and easy to fix mistakes. That was 4yrs ago and it still looks like it did the day I finished it. It’s also still my favorite piece. Love your channel! 💜
Thanks for showing this video! I’m so glad I found your TH-cam site! You are an amazing Painter & explain everything!! Your hutch turned out Beautiful!! until next time, thanks so much!🥰
I am so glad I just watched this video. I have the exact same China hutch. Lol. I mean, exact. I have been wanting to paint it and the matching table and chairs. I love what you did with it. I can't wait to do mine. I'm really excited now.
I have a bathroom that I've been dreading to do, but after seeing this video I am going to do the bathroom vanity. I am super excited, but nervous at the same time. Thank you!!!!!
Been trying to get my mom to get rid of her hutch. It just looks old, but now I will try to convince her to give a new look. Loved how yours turned out.
I have one similar, it's has mirrors on back, Glas shelves missing and glass in doors. It's so great I came across your video. I want to do away with all glass and mirrors and you gave me a ton of info. Thank you
Just found your website last week!! I have been wanting to paint an old bedroom set forever & after watching your videos I finally did it!! Loved how it turned out!! Thanks for the inspiration :D
It looks great, in 2018 I wanted to update our light oak banisters and found your video on how to strip and what to use. I painted spindles white and tops a walnut stain. Your video was awesome, so easy to follow. I’m now going to do my dining room hutches and very torn on chalk paint or one coat paint like Fusion.
L😍VE this elegant vibe to your hutch, which I prefer over the more shabby finishes. Your bead-board panels and glass-less doors are charming and perfect. I enjoy a somewhat shabby look for my select pieces, but recently, I have re-worked a few super-chippy items into the look of "gentle time-worn". Or, the same as "slightly distressed", huh?
Hi Christina, I am in the process of refinishing my china cabinet. I am at the point of distressing the cabinet. I took my hutch apart so I could refinish the whole top of my base. Also took doors off. My question is I am having a hard time distressing it while it is apart. Should I put it back together before I do that. The problem I have is that the top of my base won’t have a finish coat in the back part of the base. I will refinish after I distress. What are your thoughts? Or should I go ahead and just topcoat 1 coat of the very top of base then put together? ( I really enjoy watching your tutorials, and even found myself redoing some of my pieces to get rid of that orange oak). Thank you for all your tips! Sandy
Man I got all excited to watch this and then see it's not on for another 3 hours, I live in Australia so I guess I have to wait until tomorrow!! Looking forward to watching this one!!!
You have given me so many ideas! Your channel is awesome Christina. Ty ty ty! This hutch is gorgeous. I am looking for one and all I kept finding were ugly wood ones lol. Now I can get one for cheap and do it myself! I also have a great kitchen table that the home owners we bought the house from left..so I have plans for that as well! My honey do list is getting longer lol 😂. I absolutely love how you explain EVERYTHING..from the paint brushes you use..to the container that you put the paint in! I may have to watch the video a few times over and over..bc it takes me a minute lol..but hey! That's ok!😘💖
Hi Christina! Just wondering for your clients piece did you also use the white wash? and I think you mentioned 2 coats of Paris grey and no dark wax? with light distressing? Hope I got that right!
Thanks for the tutorial! I haven't tried a wash yet, but I have a piece waiting for a white wash. I like the look of the gray with the dark wax. Thanks! Sorry I missed your premier :( have a great weekend
Beautiful I love it! ❤I've been wanting to do this to my cabinets for so long, so I don't have to strip the color Or send it down before painting? My Top cabinets were sand down before But they just did some work here and the bottom cabinets are new and I Don't like the color. They are both different please help🙏🙏🙏
Can I apply chalk paint in a garage in Texas heat or should I bring it in? I'm re doing my night stands and following your steps with the Java Gel and white linen, then distressing. But I there were a few things I wanted to do outside in my garage. Your a great teacher and I love your work.
I've worked in a hot TN garage before, but maybe wait for a cooler day. If you did it inside, you want to be in a ventilated area with the windows open.
Thanks for the turorial I am new a furtinure paniting so far i have tackled an old end table for the living room and now a side table for the bedroom. I am trying to explore new ways i loved this look. Distressing makes me a bit nervous to try
Hi Christina I have a similar china cabinet but I want to convert the outer panels into doors, or even all four panels into 2 bi-fold doors! is that possible? Can't remove or flip shelves due to there being only 1/2 doors at centre opening. Thanks
Let me know if you have any questions. I'd start with a fine sand paper so you don't take it too far. You can always build it up if you like. And if you mess up, just add more paint!
Thanks for the great tutorials. How about one of just your cleanup regimen? I’ve never worked with wax before, no idea how to care for those brushes, but they aren’t cheap, and it seems you get a ton of miles out of them, are there any products or methods that work best for the paint and the wax brushes? Love the outtakes!! GO GREEN!
Hi Christina! Love all of your videos so down to earth and easy to follow. 2 questions: #1 when you wax your piece how often do you rewax? and #2 I have a piece I painted with black General Finish and topcoat except the topcoat dripped and looks terrible now when dry. Can I repaint over that piece with chalk paint (like starting over)? Should I prime first? Sand? HELP!!!
Love this! Thank you! Could you explain how you popped the glass out of the sides. Yours don't look like they opened(?) like a piece I just bought, and I'm not sure how to tackle the glass with the sides not opening. Any advice would be great!
Christina. I found your video by accident and I’m so glad I did. I have been wanting to redo my hutch and table, but, I’m wondering if I can chalk paint over a traditional semi shiny finished table top. Thanks. Patty
I just depends on the look you're going for. If you want to keep it that darker gray, I would go with the lighter wax. A dark wax may just "muddy" it up.
I’m new to painting furniture and your videos always inspire me to try more and explore with waxes. What is your wall paint color? That goes so well with your painted piece.
Gorgeous!! I am painting my Grandma's hutch black and have seen where they add black wax all over to give it some more depth. Is that something you would recommend or is clear better to finish? Thank you and you inspire me!
Hi Christina - Wonderful video. Any advice of painting over an expensive blonde wood (from the 1990's) dining hutch. I don't want to ruin it but I need to update the wood color and I'm thinking white. Chalk paint or Behr Alkyd Satin Enamel?
I've tried to distress a chest of drawers but I don't love it as it still looks too 'new'. I love the way you use dark wax! Can I use wax on top of the seal?
This came out beautiful! I didn't see you scuff sand at all so I'm assuming you don't do that. Do you find that your pieces hold up good? I've been having to go back and redo all my previous projects and now always scuff sand and prime because they just weren't holding up
This is great! I was just wondering if I could use some Annie Sloan paint I've had about as long you said you had yours in this video. AS recommends a year and this is WAY over that. It seems the paint still performed well.
This is beautiful! I just came across your videos while searching for giving my banister a makeover. I'm wondering if you have any videos on painting trim or baseboards? Thank you!
Hi! I LOVE your channel! New subscriber here. I do have a question though. I stripped and sanded 2 nightstands (I actually followed you as you did your 2 tables) and when I got to the painting part I used paint and primer that I actually used to paint my walls in my house. But the paint seems tacky and doesn’t seem to want to dry. Did I do something wrong? Should I re strip it and try another kind of paint?
I was wondering about that too! Some people say you should use a bonding primer prior to using chalk paint on shinier pieces. It appears some do and some don't - when should you use primer?
Christina Muscari I should share a quick story that I hope inspires you to keep making content for a long time. In August 2019 I became sick almost overnight and needed an emergency transplant. All went well and I’m almost ready to return to work (after Covid 19 is gone). I spent 30 days laid up close to the hospital and I’m not one to watch much tv and had very little exposure to TH-cam. My fiancé suggested entertaining myself by searching TH-cam under things that interested me.....and I found your channel. Needless to say long after I left the hospital and came home to finish my recovery I have become a huge fan of your work, your style, and your social presence on TH-cam. You are inspiring!!!!! Soon I will be going back to what I do best (Police Detective) and put this adventure I’ve had in the past but I will continue to take my much needed down time by watching and rewatching your videos in the evening. Thanks again for all you do, it make a difference to people and inspires us to try new things❤️😘
Hi There, thank you for this video! two questions for a new painter. I am going to use a cherry wood dresser- some videos mention sanding and others say to shelac first- I notice you didn't do either- do I need to? Also, If I have a taupey-grey vs a cool grey base, what color do you recommend?
If you are doing cherry I would Shellac it. Cherry is a bleeder. I like Swedish Grey by Jolie. joliehome.com/collections/jolie-paint/products/paint-swedish-grey?variant=9384922972204?aff=18
are there any videos out there that compare chalk paint brands. I have used ASCP and have been very happy. I also recently used a few other brands and have been very disappointed in the paint and wax. Is it me that just can't get this or the product?

Did you spray the Paris grey with water? I feel like I’m having trouble with my Annie Sloan paint. When I dip my brush in water it takes off my first layer !
I don't think I have the patience for all of this it's way too much work. I just painted my china cabinet and sealed it and I was done. I did put a primer before I painted it and then I sealed it. I spray painted the knobs and that was it.
Is there some reason no one wants to say how many you need paintwise in order to chalk paint a china cabinet with hutch one color. Is it a pint, a gallon, what.??? A couple coats of green over light brown and I have taken off all the drawers, cabinets, glass doors, so it's completely open in front. Does anybody who has done this once have an idea of how much paint to initially buy, I can always buy more???? I am only using the one color of chalk paint and doing nothing prior to or after using the chalk paint in some greenish color. Cheap as possible, I am the only one that will ever see it..... Thank you
Wow, this piece is gorgeous!
My very first piece I ever painted (before selling my work) was our dining room buffet and I did it with Annie’s Louis Blue, Waverly’s Elephant and Annie’s clear/dark wax. I think I will finally give it a try 😮🙏
You cna do it!
Love dark wax ...thank u for the tip on adding some clear
Thank u for showing how simple chalk painting can be. I’m now ready to tackle my sideboard love this color . Thks again much appreciated 😊
It's beautiful, and I love gray.

Just found your website last week!! I have been wanting to paint an old bedroom set forever & after watching your videos I finally did it!! Loved how it turned out!! Thanks for the inspiration :D
Awesome! Thank you!
The very last part with the dog is my favourite!! and those brushes!!!
My husband's quarantine mustache only lasted a day. I'm glad I got it on camera. 😂
Beautiful. I really like Paris Grey. Lighter grey that's bright.
Me too!

This looks amazing! I didn’t realize you could paint the glass. I’m gonna try this!!
Ty for great tutorial!!! Just purchased dark wax, so this helped so much!! Ty for the ending bloopers, loved them 😂👍!!

You solved the mystery about old white for me. I knew it was lighter. I did not hear that it changed.
I know!
Yay! It is! I’m so excited ~ thanks!
Hope you like it!

I can’t wait for this. I just started my first project and I’m stuck. Paint is on but I’m afraid to sand it to make it look stressed.
Tinkerginamama just for it you got nothing to lose, start on a small patch and easy into it.👍🏼😜

I don't rewax my pieces. I've never had a need to. Can you sand back the top coat a bit to clean up the drips and put another thinner coat on?
Love this! Thank you! Could you explain how you popped the glass out of the sides. Yours don't look like they opened(?) like a piece I just bought, and I'm not sure how to tackle the glass with the sides not opening. Any advice would be great!
Great work and and awesome info, thank you. How often do you have to reapply wax?
Christina. I found your video by accident and I’m so glad I did. I have been wanting to redo my hutch and table, but, I’m wondering if I can chalk paint over a traditional semi shiny finished table top. Thanks. Patty
I would give it a rough scuff with sand paper to get rid of the shininess.
I love this. I am doing my hutch a darker gray. I purchased the dark wax. Will this be ok or should you use a light wax with a darker paint?

I’m new to painting furniture and your videos always inspire me to try more and explore with waxes. What is your wall paint color? That goes so well with your painted piece.
Thanks. The walls are Sherwin Williams Argos.
Would this look nice if bedroom furniture is painted like this? Or you suggest other wise? Thank you
Yes!
Sorry for the repetition, but do you have videos for faux wood furniture?
Gorgeous!! I am painting my Grandma's hutch black and have seen where they add black wax all over to give it some more depth. Is that something you would recommend or is clear better to finish? Thank you and you inspire me!
I love black wax- check out this video where I finished a piano using black wax: th-cam.com/video/cJmQfaOF8Js/w-d-xo.html
Hi Christina - Wonderful video. Any advice of painting over an expensive blonde wood (from the 1990's) dining hutch. I don't want to ruin it but I need to update the wood color and I'm thinking white. Chalk paint or Behr Alkyd Satin Enamel?
I've never used the Behr Enamel. I think chalk paint works well on hutches obviously by the video. 😊
Thank you for the tips! I have been wanting to Muscarize a hutch, but I don't like glass in the doors problem solved!
Glad I could help!
Love the term Muscarize🙂
Jeffrey Belanger I totally missed the Muscarize! I thought it was an autocorrect issue. I love it!😍🤣
😉, Next T-shirt idea!
I've tried to distress a chest of drawers but I don't love it as it still looks too 'new'. I love the way you use dark wax! Can I use wax on top of the seal?
Yes

❤️ Go Green!
This is great! I was just wondering if I could use some Annie Sloan paint I've had about as long you said you had yours in this video. AS recommends a year and this is WAY over that. It seems the paint still performed well.
Go for it!
Do you have a tutorial from that clients dresser you did?
Hi I just did my first project and I was wondering how to wash and maintain the wax brush after use?
Video coming on this soon! I wash it with Lye soap.
Thank you
Very nice❤️
Thanks 🤗
Hi Christina’s! On board from SD.
Welcome!!
I realy love your job❤❤
Parabéns☺ ( congrats ) from Portugal
Thank you! Cheers!
Good morning from Sacramento Ca.
Good morning!
Love that hutch...I believe that the dark wax is referring to ‘Black’ wax, is that right? Thank you
Annie Sloan Dark wax is the brown wax. But you could use black if you wanted to. She used to only have clear and dark back when I finished this.
Thank You for walking us through this. I am redoing my Kitchen around a Hutch that I purchased. May I ask what colors your walls are?
Sherwin Williams Argos
Christina Muscari Oh Thank You so much. I really hope it works in my kitchen. It looks great with your lighting. 🤗 ❤️
How does the wax dry? Is it protective? Nice job
It hardens and dries smooth to the touch for a beautiful matte finish- it is protective!
In this video you skipped the sanding step, do you usually sand prior to paint? Thanks in advance for answering!
I usually do a scuff sand before painting all of my pieces. I don't always show that step.
Can't wait to try this. Did you seal it with polyurethane?
This is beautiful! I just came across your videos while searching for giving my banister a makeover. I'm wondering if you have any videos on painting trim or baseboards? Thank you!
Sorry, I don't.
Do I really need a top coat on my white painted nightstand? If so can it be the same poly semi gloss I used over the stained wood on top?
You don't have to use a top coat on your piece. Using a finish coat helps the furniture withstand wear and tear over time.
Do you paint in Arizona? Have a repainted black pepper three piece entertainment center . Wanting to have it redone in creme color
I am in TN- so no I don't paint in AZ. Sorry!
Hi! I LOVE your channel! New subscriber here. I do have a question though. I stripped and sanded 2 nightstands (I actually followed you as you did your 2 tables) and when I got to the painting part I used paint and primer that I actually used to paint my walls in my house. I was wondering about that too! Some people say you should use a bonding primer prior to using chalk paint on shinier pieces. It appears some do and some don't - when should you use primer?
I think I just responded to your email. :)
Waiting patently
Thanks for joining me today!
I love this! Thank you so much for sharing such a touching and personal story. ❤️
Excited to paint my first furniture piece soon! do you paint the back of a piece if it will be against the wall?
I don't, since no one is ever going to see it.
Do you always paint the hinges?
Look absolutely amazing. Thanks for posting. (Great ending - you sound like me lol)
are there any videos out there that compare chalk paint brands. I have used ASCP and have been very happy. I also recently used a few other brands and have been very disappointed in the paint and wax. Is it me that just can't get this or the product?
I've done a video recently comparing Waverly to ASCP.
th-cam.com/video/_-COPBzL5To/w-d-xo.html
If you check my channel, I've done lots of videos with Jolie and Dixie Belle as well, so you can see what those look like too. I've been very happy with those brands as well.
Does this work with other types of paint. I have grey and white paints that I used for my interior doors and baseboard...would this work??
Not generally. This paint is designed for painting furniture.
I love it 🤗
Would you recommend to paint stairs same way, just with floor paint?
I've never painted stairs. But I would just use a really durable floor lacquer over them. Annie Sloan sells one I think.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
Hi Christina is that the same hutch I asked if you had a video for the other day?
Yes! You were part of the inspo for this video!
Have you ever used the vaseline method to distress a piece?
Yes I have on some flower pots. www.prettydistressed.com/blog//2014/06/distressed-flower-pots.html?rq=flower
Did you spray the Paris grey with water? I feel like I’m having trouble with my Annie Sloan paint. When I dip my brush in water it takes off my first layer !
I didn't. I does take off a little bit of the paint. How long has you first layer dried?
Christina Muscari about 30 min!
@@brittaneexo2661 You need to let that first layer dry a little longer. I would recommend a couple of hours.
What are your suggestions on chalk painting over dark brown paneling ty
I would probably prime it to save paint. If you are painting over dark brown paneling, it will save you from a ton of coats.
Have you made a video on about your business? I’d love more details!!!
Not yet! But I'll be starting some of those videos soon.
Do you paint over your hinges?
Most of the time I do. Just be careful not to glob them up with paint.
I don't think I have the patience for all of this it's way too much work. I just painted my china cabinet and sealed it and I was done. I did put a primer before I painted it and then I sealed it. I spray painted the knobs and that was it.
Hey! Nice edit ;)
I love that paint colander can you send a link?
Everything is linked in the description box. The paint colander was a plastic container (yogurt) with cheese cloth placed with a rubber band. 😉
Christina Muscari mybad! Thank you
Christina do you happen to know anyone that does this kind of work from little rock arkansas....
I don't sorry. Zibra Blog is working on a directory but it doesn't seem to be up yet.
About to do this to my wife’s Grandmas China cabinet she left us. I kinda feel bad but it just doesn’t match anything in our home .
Why don’t you do a project with Annie?
I'd love to. I'm working on it. 😉
I am only using the one color of chalk paint and doing nothing prior to or after using the chalk paint in some greenish color. Cheap as possible, I am the only one that will ever see it..... Thank you
Are you still making videos ?
I am!
That looks very pretty, distressed. I know, I know.... 😀
I think is so complicated all the process :/
