  • From Season 10 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 20: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, Part 3 which originally aired on February 23rd, 1964. Set on the coast near Kent and Sussex, the British troops who attempt to enforce the law are met with a formidable group led by the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. The three episodes were released theatrically overseas under the title Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow in 1963. The U.S. saw a theatrical release in 1975. The popular theme song was written by Terry Gilkyson who composed great Disney songs like Thomasina and The Bare Necessities.

.....I used to sing the theme as a kid, pretend I was scarecrow, never realizing how parallel he was to Robin Hood, another English TV show we watched. As most,we only had a black and white TV,but most shows were in b/w and actually lent a more morbid effect to some shows. Disney captured alot of my TV hours, and having colour, would have been a welcome luxury, but so would a Bentley,Rolls,or a butler.....❤

The family rush. Dogs brought in, washroom runs, drinks, snacks, etc. Everyone had to be in position by the start of the show, Lol. Great times.

Saw this as part of a double bill with the Apple Dumpling Gang when I was a kid in suburbs of Montreal. I came away with lasting memories of this fantastic story and film. Thank you so much for posting.

I like that Disney didn’t make the press gang a bunch of pansy during that fight. Made it all the sweeter when they lost.

Yeah, it looked even for a bit, and then the tide started to turn -- the way most barroom brawls go. 😂

The Kaleidoscope effect in the beginning of the show is AWESOME n VERY memorable to me. We ALWAYS had a kaleidescope around the house 🏠 back in the 1960's n 1970's, n I wish I STILL had one here!!!

Loved this as a kid. Had the paperback version, too. The one written specific to the TV show, rather than the original books. I think I got it from the in-school book-ordering company, Scholastic Services.

A lot of my lunch money went to scholastic services. And why not? Even now, if you asked me what I had for lunch last week, I couldn't answer. But ask me about the last novel...
They did some odd things, though. They had one book, "The Two Towers," but no other titles by that author. Why?

Many visitors come to see the White Cliffs of Dover, and are disappointed. Dover is a rather gritty, busy, noisy harbor town. Probably more trucks per capita than anywhere else in the UK. What cliffs there are are only really visible from the water.
Dover CASTLE, though! Oldest part goes back to Roman times. Medieval sections, parts from the Napoleonic Wars, tunnels dug during WWII... There's a whole lot of history on display at the castle. An easy day trip from London by train.
But if you have your heart set on beautiful white cliffs, look up the spot called Seven Sisters. When film crews want a location with stark chalk cliffs over 500 feet dropping into the sea... they come to Seven Sisters.

Funny that this was happening under King George the lll. During the American Revolution.

Walt Disney explained how scripts evolved, storytelling brought the American Revolution to bring in U.S.
audience of this British fiction novel.
He spoke with a matter of fact preamble as he did in front of maps with the Swamp Fox series, though this is a literary fiction Disney bought
      the rights to.

Very good eye! They sure did. Its insertion was twofold: to remind audiences of who the character was (it had been two weeks since he appeared on the show) and to fill the one hour time slot.
