Annie Lennox is the most successful female recording artist in UK music history; she has over 80 million worldwide record sales as a vocalist with the Eurythmics and a solo artist. Her singing in The Eurythmics and Solo albums are Iconic jewels. You should give her a deep dive and explore her fantastic voice. Thanks for this first taste of a feast of delicious music and singing.
An 80's classic! Great reaction :) Annie Lennox said this about the meaning of the song, in a Guardian interview in 2017: “We’d survived, kinda, but it was tough. I felt like we were in a dream world, that whatever we were chasing was never going to happen. All this poured into Sweet Dreams. … From that first line, it’s not a happy song. It’s dark. 'Sweet dreams are made of this' is basically me saying: ‘Look at the state of us. How can it get worse?’ I was feeling very vulnerable. The song was an expression of how I felt: hopeless and nihilistic. ... ‘I travelled the world and the seven seas, everybody’s looking for something’ was about how we’re all in this perpetual state of seeking. It’s about surviving the world.’ "
Great meaning, one so many of us can connect with. Always chasing, always seeking a better existence. Sometimes it feels like we can't make it where we want to be so desperately
Such a great song. Eurythmics came in on the original new wave movement and blew up. They had an incredible number of really great songs that crossed to top 40 radio via MTV back in the days when they actually played music. I miss those days.
Eurythmics/Annie Lennox is another of those groups that I didn't really appreciate much at the time that they were emerging and riding the radiowaves and hit music charts, but have come to enjoy and appreciate very much in retrospect.
Sorry Bruh, the cellos were merely props in the video. Dave Stewart was the mastermind behind the synth sound for Eurythmics 2nd & 3rd albums. Their very first album, In The Garden, was a hybrid sound of rock and synth. Annie and Dave created a performance art based band. All their video offerings were groundbreaking, but nothing beats Eurythmics live in concert!
Yes, the original MTV Video. When it first came on I wasn't sure I liked it. After about two minutes I knew I was on to something new and different and I was all in from then on. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart were completely original ground breakers, and Annie's voice is special and unique.
I took tap as a kid and this was the song we danced to at our recital, this was in 1986. I was 9. Yup I'm old! The memories are gold though. Loved this song even as a kid!
Love is a stranger, Is the single before this one ( I think) and it was re released after sweet dreams, its a fantastic 80's track. also check out Who's that girl, and Here Comes the Rain Again.
Dude... Marilyn Manson? I hardly think so. THIS is what this song was meant to sound like, with Annie Lennox's powerful voice. And assasination? What the hell? You got some catching up to do.

Annie is an icon.
These are the composers and unbelievable musicians.

"Here comes the Rain Again" is a nice follow-up
Both Dave and Annie have some great solo stuff worth digging into as well.
I loved this when it first came out. I still did not have a TV so it was many years later before I saw it on MTV. 🥰🇨🇦

I liked it the second they showed her. We hadn't really seen a female singer look like that before.
After you listen to it 43 times you’ll understand it perfectly.

There are several great songs by them.

Check out Annie's duet with Aretha Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves. Two powerhouse voices, both primal forces of nature.
Love Annie!❤️
So good❤

👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah I really like this band and I love Marilyn Manson's cover. Check out Love Is A Stranger by this band
It's not a real cello but synthesized one!
That was a synthesizer not a real cello. React to all of their singles and all of Annie Lennox's solo career singles please.
That WAS synthesizers making those sounds LOL! Not Cellos! Don't believe everything you see in any videos. :-)
