Well I was disappointed you didn’t show the results of that white filter media in your main box. Second I’m guessing you’re aware that Mountain tree makes a filter that houses everything. First stage is brushes, then through media pads, then it goes through the lotus root media like you have. Lastly it goes through a UV light. How many gallons is your pond ? Just appears you have such an elaborate and large filtration system. Do you trickle water in constantly rather than water changes at one time? That’s what I’ve done and works excellent. Koi are definitely dirty fish. I can’t believe just how much they poop when they get big. Appears you like cleaning all your filters. I myself have better things to do though. A very nice looking set up you have. I can see your a good DIY er 👍🏼👍🏼

    Love your channel James
Know nothing about ponds or ever had a pond
But I do use the 3 stage filter in my hobby and profession, if you look at the filters manufacturers recommended water flow rate , you will get better results and last longer, I think it’s possible to achieve, no more big blue or just using big blue , but filling up time are would be slower,
In the discus fish hobby, we called them HMA filters (heavy metal Axe) but we reduced the flow at the other end using your friend Fittings (The one from the Brewery) they are known as John Guest connectors .
Hope this helps and possibly save you money, James keep up the good work , oh by the way I thanked my mother for the rabbits, she said she’s never bought me any rabbits so now I say thank my mother for the budgie

Hello James.. another great video to your collection.. 👍 love the new diy filter your working on, great potential there. The new fish is very likely acting up a bit just from the change of conditions ( just like you said ) I have had new fish jump right out of the water before from that same thing. Even though conditions can be perfect knowing you like I think I do, your water is very likely better than where she/he came from, changes in environment cause fish stress. I agree with your assessment to just keep a eye on her. Great work over there buddy.

    Nice video again James.
Did you know you can change the bracket around on your Vyair filter?
You could then have the water come in on the right and water out on the left, the opposite to how you have it now. Would save you having to have the hose going in running round the back of it. Just a thought, although as it feeds your Big Blue, it might not be as effective.
    New fish is nice 👍

What i did with my dechlorinator is that i kept the 3 stage cannister. The 1st one is washable to get rid of the bigger ones. 2nd one is 5micron, 3rd is 1micron. Would clean the 1st one every month. Would last me about 4-5 months on the 2nd and 3rd. Then last one is my big blue, activated charcoal inside.

    if you put a
Drawstring Closure Mesh Laundry Bag Washing Machine Protection Net
( £ 3.49 ebay ) over the inlet on the epic 1 this would collect most of the debris without affecting flow rate and it would hang down so the water would flow downwards
    just a thought

Great vid James, thanks for all the anarobic info. I am also trying to get them in my last chamber of my filter. I still have that part filled with glafoam.. After my moving bed the water enters that chamber below, and must go up trough about 60 liters of glafoam.
I was told it could take up to 6 months before these bacteria grow enough to keep nitrates at or around ( hopefully ) 0. ( depending on bioload etc. ) Also I was told that after a moving bed, the water is almost stripped of oxigen, cause the airobic bacteria have used is all to live. That water is great for a static bed, without air... Cause that means that the ANarobic bacteria MUST use the oxigen that is IN the NO2 and NO3. Thus by converting the NO2 and NO3 they use up the oxigen in those bonds to stay alive. ( and they poop nitrogen, oxigen and some ozon.. ) So that is why I put my moving bed first, and the "static" bed after that. In the hopes that the water is almost oxigen free. I do have a huge HDPE airstone in the pond, to replenish the oxigen.. About 3000 liters per hour, 24/7.
I love your new bio media. I am looking into that also..:) I also hope that the new fish, let's call him/her "Freckles" for now :) will get adapted soon in the new enviroment. Since Freckles is now living in a dream pond, in stead of a dealer pond. ( that also was perfect, but hey.. you know what I mean :). I still envy your clear water. My pond is quite "in the open" so a lot of stuff is blown in there. Also no bottom drain ( yet) But with a sieve, and filterwool at the top of my 2 trickle filters ( thanks for the tip !! ) water has improved a lot.
Well, keep those vids coming, love to see things evolve outthere.. Greets to the fam,
    Regards, Gijs

avtoban27 yea my fish are doing great as well as you can see would love to see your pond put a video up on your account let’s take a look then !!! See if they are as happy as you say mate my pond is a lot of work but like I said in the video I like that with the hobby or I would get bored if I didn’t have to do anything
