    Why do these companies cause so much trouble. With chipped credit cards being so universal why bother with subscriptions and apps just bring in a swipe to pay system that hooks up to the bank network. I would never bother with an electric car when charging away from home is so idiotically needlessly difficult.

    • @ianmathieson65
      @ianmathieson65 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Fox: That’s brilliant news and long overdue. Ecotricity have attracted a lot of criticism over the years such as when they changed from an RFID card to an app which only works if you have a smart phone and a mobile signal! And they keep changing their tariff structure. Also, their customer services desk, which used to be manned 24/7, is only manned during office hours so if you have difficulties outside these - tough!

    • @EVOpinion
      @EVOpinion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim Maxwell it is an issue. Apps work but again no everyone carries a smartphone. I suppose the truth is we are heading towards a cashless connected future and companies are reluctant to add extra expense to the installation if it isn’t going to be used.

    • @jimmaxwell2259
      @jimmaxwell2259 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly, cashless society where everyone is forced to be a creditor of a bank, subject to bail in and every modern device is basically a means of spying on you, from smart phones, smart meters, windows operating systems, sat navs, social media and cloud storage etc etc etc.....the list is endless and getting ever more complex by the day.
      On a matter of principle only, society is taking a wrong turn....imo.

    All the ice cars are a bit different , some have Diesel engines , petrol engines , LPG engine converted vehicles . You have to fill up with Diesel for Diesel engines , petrol for petrol engines and LPG . Remember they can’t be mixed and will cost thousands to use and will poison ☠️ you . Also remember highly flammable , cancer causing , and may even explode if not handled correctly. It is never cheap ,never free, but the number of places to find it is reducing at a significant rate 😂😂😂. Unfortunately storing more fuel at home not easily done or legal and not any cheaper

    • @dougowt
      @dougowt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also be aware that unless you stop, so your family can vacate your vehicle, you will be driving them into a highly dangerous filling station with flammable vapours and possible fluid hazards. You may be tempted to leave your children in the vehicle while you go to pay in the shop or alternatively walk them with you to the shop, which in itself can be risky.

    The video title is "How to Charge an EV at Public Chargers", but the video then proceeds to show about 3 minutes of standing by the car talking about how easy charging is, including a nice but totally irrelevant drone flyover of a pretty country church, about 11 minutes of driving in the car talking about how easy charging is, and about 3 minutes of sitting on the sofa talking about how easy charging is. A BETTER video would have been short video vignettes of actually showing the plug process, which plug to use, which charger to use with which plug, how to go through the credit card hookup process with the charger, and so forth. As this video stands, it would have been better titled: "Talking About How Easy It Is to Charge an EV at Public Chargers", because the video certainly doesn't show "How to Charge". I appreciate the efforts of the videographer, who offers his labors here for free, but the video doesn't match the implications of the title and, hence, those looking for a useful tutorial waste 16 minutes of time.

    Why are public electric charging points so complicated? Why not make them credit card operated like petrol pumps? All this messing about with apps and phones is just so companies can sell you other things. I'm also slightly sceptical about cost savings. I use very little electricity at home and with the standing charge a kilowatt cost me almost 20p, ~double what most people say they pay? Since one is paying a huge premium to buy an electric car at 20p/ kW, plus losses while charging, I'm not sure there's any cost saving at all?

    • @EVOpinion
      @EVOpinion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin Overton it can be expensive but I guess that’s the cost of a network in its infancy and the convenience? It wasn’t that long ago Electric Highway was free! There is a gradual shift away from apps and RFID cards to contactless but I think you’re right, companies are reluctant as they want to know who they have as members and how we use their chargers.

    • @kalebdaark100
      @kalebdaark100 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just started looking into this and frankly i'm stunned that the none free charging points are anything EXCEPT credit card operated. They should be making it as much like having an IC car as possible if they want to encourage use of their charging station.

    • @marklola12
      @marklola12 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      because in reality driving electric is not as cheaper as a normal car as EV owners make out...and it will only become more expensive in the future as EV cars will start paying tax at some point, and price of electric will be going up with more people using EV cars
