Carver is my favorite writer and this video of you is one of the best on Carver. I like you show the pages of the book on the screen.

Thanks! More videos coming - not necessarily on Carver, but if you like him, many of the authors I read have similar skills or styles.

i have to write a short story in Carver’s style for my class and I had no idea how to do so. This is so helpful! Thank you :)

Outstanding video! I watch a lot of writing videos and this is one of the best ones I’ve seen. Raymond Carver is a gem. I feel like only a small minority of people know who he is

Thank you! I think you're right, he's become less widely known over the years - so it's always a pleasure to introduce him to up-and-coming readers and writers.

I read this in a class a couple of times when I was in college, and I liked it, but didn't know what all the fuss was about. Then recently I listened to it on TH-cam, but still thought it was alright. Then a couple of weeks ago I found a PDF plagerizing it and read it again. I finally got it. The guy that could see had such a bad attitude about things that he couldn't see anything. At least that's what I got from it. However, I sill feel Time and Again by Breece DJ Pancake is a notch above Cathedral, and it took me about four times reading it to understand it.

I'll have to check out Time and Again - Cathedral is on my list, but it's pretty far back. I usually pick up Raymond Carver when I'm feeling stuck. There's something about the timeless simplicity of his sentences that sparks creativity - a sparse environment you can fill in yourself.

To me the coffee and jello line creates conflict because he's already set up that he's keeping the jello from the man with no hands. Now he reveals that coffee is bad for him and jello would be good. So now the mwnh is a greater imposition, almost a threat, even though he's taken no threatening action. He needs him to leave to get rid of his headache
