  • Here's a look at The Weather Network from April 10th, 1995. 20 years ago! It was the first day of their new Spring programming and also a brand new look for The Weather Network. Patty Kim and Gary Ryan are featured.

That "It's Painfully Cool" PSA at 20:11.....I've never forgotten that one.

Notice that by the time the 1995 spring programming debuted, the announcer no longer talked at the beginning of the local forecast. And yes it did seem to me they were working on some issues with the new programming (especially when they put the STAR 4000 standby graphic up at about 1:30 into this video yet the music continued on, likely given the data for normal temperatures wasn't quite ready yet). Some years when a transition from one season to the next they fix it quick, but other years not so much.

This is similar to the The Weather Channel in the US where by this time the narrator no longer talked during the local forecast as well, and I'll bet MétéoMédia did the same thing as well on their side when their spring programming launched.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I still remember all of those weather fact/post card fillers they featured, especially the tornado one @4:17 with that "Wizard of Oz" clip, lol. One thing I almost totally forgot about was the "Tennis forecast"; first time I saw that the memories came flooding back. If you have any more TWN clips I would love to see em!

etownwx I enjoyed how Dorothy and Toto got a cameo in the tornado facts! lol! The weather facts and postcards were enjoyable - not too long, but quite informative. I had forgotten about the Tennis tips segment until I uploaded this! Later in the spring they debuted the household tips segment with Jon Eakes and the gardening tips segment with Art Drysdale. They kept those segments going with those gentlemen for a good number of years, but the tennis tips didn't last too long! I find The local forecast song @4:42 sounds like the 80's tune "The Captain of Her Heart"! lol! I have a lot of TWN clips and hope to get them up soon. Thanks for the comment!

Primrose - Forlorn Hope, if it hasn't been posted before. Great tune.
They used the boats in the intro @24:52 in 96 as well.
Do you have clips from Winter 95/96 and Spring 96?

Forlorn Hope was one of maybe 3 or 4 tracks i still remember from 95. (I wish I able to remember all the music they they played back then). And yes I still remember those John Deere-sponsored Lawn and Garden segments ...and those Sea Doo Marine reports.

Weatherfanexample2 I do have some 1996 winter footage, I know where they are. I also have Spring 96 footage, but have to look for those! I'll get them up eventually.

The part of the clip at 25:52, with the boats on the lake....does anyone know the title of the song bed used in it?
    DEC. 11, 2016 EDIT: I found it...it's 'Sausolito' at Killer Tracks. =)
