- In order to find the equation of a tangent line to a given function at a given point, you need to consider what a tangent line is. In order for a line to be considered a tangent line you need to make sure that 2 conditions are met:
1. The line needs to go through the given point.
2. The line needs to have the same slope as the given function at that shared point.
In this video I'll show you how to find the equation of a tangent line to the function y=x^3+4x-6 at the point (2, 10). This means that we will be coming up with a linear function that goes through the point (2, 10) and has the same slope as y=x^3+4x-6 at that point. We will come up with this tangent line equation with the derivative of our given function.

Bro this is the most straightforward teaching I've ever had and it makes a lot of sense thanks sir.
You’re welcome, I’m happy to hear it helped so much!
For sure. I am telling all my classmates about Jake and his site. A 5 minute video saves the day again.
Jesse, we need to find the derivative
ayyyo Mr White I don't care about that chemistry bullshit, I just wanna do math
Dude thank you so much! I normally watch the organic chemistry tutor for calculus help, but he made this seem way harder than you did! You explained it in such a straightforward way that made it easy to understand. I will be sure to use your channel in the future for my calculus endeavors. You earned a sub from me!!
Awesome! I’m glad it helped so much!
Thank you, man. I really understand the way you just explained this and it is so relieving and helpful to finally understand this concept.
You’re welcome, I’m so glad it helped!
Man you are a life saver with your videos, thank you 🥺
You’re welcome, I’m glad you found them helpful!
Panicked because I was struggling to explain a problem in this form and was feeling dumb for forgetting how to do this, but this fixed everything. Thank you so much.
thanks so much for making it simple n clear to understand
You’re welcome, I’m glad it helped!
Thanks bro I really needed it for my summer work
Never in my life would I have expected it to be so simple. I was struggling with y=2x^2-4x+1 with the point (3, 7) and I used literally every resource my teacher gave us, and still got nothing. This made everything so fucking simple.
Y=8x-17
You made it so clear this is a W video
Thank you, I’m glad it helped!
This was fantastic. Thank you my friend
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
very simple, very easy to follow, thank you
You’re welcome!

This is amazing dude thank you so much.
Just came here to say that this was such a good and SIMPLE explanation for something a lot of math teachers make so much more complicated 🥲
You’re a life saver, thanks for this video!

You are welcome, Stay Tuned
I'm probably not allowed to use this yet but it helped me with a problem i was stuck on.
If it works, it works!
Thanks, now I can go about solving my 2am math obsession in the obviously wrong way with only a vague understanding of calculus
Thank you so much man. Really appreciate the super clear working and explanation - legend.
You’re welcome, I always love to hear it helped!
Wow u really made it simple, and u didn’t make it seem boring

Thank you!
thanks bruv you're so cool
Thank you
You’re welcome!
Thank you sir, I was wondering how you write the answer in, what I think is called polynomial form? Like "x+by+c=0, where b and c are integers", thank you :)
What a legend
Thank you!
Marvelous love from Pakistan ❤
got it thx
Nice!
You're great.
Thank you!
ty bro
You’re welcome!
thank you jake, really helped me out, you're and excellent teacher!

i have seen you in breaking bad, but great teaching ty
Thank you! 😂
My chemistry teacher went through multiple lessons to teach something you taught in 4:55 seconds, and my teacher's way doesn't even work...
I’m glad you found it easy to follow, that’s what I’m going for!
@@JakesMathLessons hahaha thank you for this

Thank you!
nailed it! thanks so much!
Mine says f(x) then an equation is there a different process to this
Nope! f(x) can be replaced with y and then you can go through the same process.
I love you
Thank you Sir😊! for this helpful video I hope your channel will grow 🫡
The only reason I’m making it through this unit in Calculus man. I love my teacher but that man doesn’t know what simple terms are at all 😂😂
I've always thought it was so much easier to learn new math topics when people explain them in simple terms and language, then you can learn the technical wording later. I'm glad it helped you too!
We have the same name and are both doing calculus!
Gotta love that! 🤪
Tyy
You’re welcome!
The easy stuff.
