    Lovely video, Emily and Valentine. Absolutely wonderful. Yes, you are in the Maronite "heartland' up there. All the statues you saw are of Saint Charbel, one of the most famous Christian religious figure from Lebanon. He was born near Bicharri. The other famous Bicharri figure is Kahlil Gibran, the author of The Prophet. He was born in Bisharri and died in New York City. Thank you for sharing this beautiful drive, and enjoy your stay up in the mountains.

    I was there in 1987 -1988. There was plenty of evidence of destruction everywhere from the war, but from what I could see, it was such a beautiful country. We did go up to Mt. Sannine, and it was the most treacherous drive I've ever experienced in my life. I cannot remember the name of the mountain next to Sannine, but I think there was a cable that could take you there, but it was out of order. The whole stay was pretty much culture shock for me, an American in a war torn country. Years later, someone showed me a wonderful book about how Beirut was reconstructed and I cried my eyes out. It's called Beirut's Memory by Ayman Trawi. I finally got this book 2 years ago. I saw on your drive, you passed Harissa, did you go up there?

    Emily at the 10:00 mark you guessed right that in general the mountains are mostly Christians because in ancient times people took refuge at elevations to stay faithful to their religion and reject the invading Muslim armies - in other words they did not “surrender.” Many monasteries and churches were fortified or located on mountain tops and/or cliffs for the same reasons. Loved the video, you two are very adventurous; that’s a challenging excursion.

    • @geoffmilner
      @geoffmilner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lebanon is confusing as a Muslim/Christian mix usually means that the Christians wont be there for various reasons over a period of time or there will be internecine conflict. Like Coptic Christians in Egypt or Christians, Indonesia or in the Middle East generally. Presumably when there is a Lebanese intifada against Israel then the Israelis know which parts of Lebanon to return fire too.

    When u have such problem in a rental car just return it
    Because rental cars in Lebanon should be sold after 3 years of usage which means u should not find any problems in the car
    Rental cars that have green number plates only serve 3 years after being bought new
    This fact even half Lebanese don't know about
