Hi Toni, two things about the knitpro hooks, that may be of interest for people: firstly knitpro cords are cross compatible with all of their products (knitting needles, etc), and with knitter's pride and knitpick products; secondly, knitter's pride has also swivel cords (that can rotate independently from the hook) in the "mindful" line of products that is already available in the US and should be available next spring in the EU (under knitpro, I think)

You asked about other tapered Tunisian hook sets besides the Addis. Pony make two sets with tapered, anodized aluminum hooks, the Pony Chroma and Pony Complete sets. The Pony Chroma sets contain seven hooks sizes 3.0mm, 3.5mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, and 6.0mm, plus cables, connectors, and end stops. The Pony Complete sets contain two each of both hooks and knitting needle tips in sizes 3.5mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, and 6.0mm, plus cables, connectors, end stops, and a row counter that screws on between the cable and the end stop. Oddly, the Pony Complete sets are not compatible with the Pony Chroma sets or any of the other Pony IC needles and cables. The Pony Colour hooks (in the Chroma sets) are also available separately.

I got my Denise set for $30 and they were perfect for learning with!! I loved that they didn't screw on like other hooks which meant they didn't require a key (cause I lose them... lol)

I find the ones with the T key to be a nussance. I had the ChiaGoo lace for knitting and I thought it was cool that they had the key and the set was gorgeous but as you knit the needles (or at least this happened to me) spin and when they spin they unlock and when it unlocks you will have loops on the needle and then you have to stop place the loops that fell off ,back on and lock with the kep. This happened so many times -This bugged me.I wanted to tell ChiaGoo so they could fix it on they're next set but no way to get them.Left messages but they don't write. I Loved the metal and tthe chords if they ever make them like the Denise or Micheals set I will buy them - I love the look of the New Micheals set. I need to get that coupon. So just as a warning the screw on ones are the better and if they ever make the ChiaGoo for Tunisian (or i you knit also- it is worth your weight in gold. But if Micheals makes these in metat the chiord look even thinner than the chiaGoo I think that is an excellent set.

Your videos are so much fun to just watch, as I learn your techniques. I'm 71, taught myself to crochet when I was in my 20's but hadn't done it for the last twenty years (life happened...). I can make things but not the amazing things like you do - yet! All in all, I get to experience all those lucious yarns, vicariously, through your videos. Really enjoy your personality and the way you make your videos.
P.S.: Made 3 hooded scarves for Christmas and birthday gifts during 2021/2022, thanks to you. My girls love 'em. Tunesian is next on my learning sgenda. Love all of it.

Want to truly spit your coffee? Look at the Tulip IC sets. I have all the ones mentioned here (except the first set) and recently invested in the Tulips. I use them more than even my prized Chiaogoo set now... Swivel cords, no tightening key required, cute case, nice finish AND they come with the coveted 7mm. But sit down before you check the price. ;) Love your videos, books, patterns- all of the above.

Thank you Toni. My husband purchased your beautiful Tunisian Crochet handbook for me as a Christmas present. I got it yesterday in the Mail. It’s a beautiful book and so informative. I looked at it for hours yesterday, the projects are gorgeous and I just love the photos and photo tutorials. The book is everything you need to get going with Tunisian Crochet. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Toni 😘

Hello, not my first time here…but was looking for good Tunisian hooks, so I immediately came to you. Then, I also researched a few other opinions and decided for myself, what I wanted for my hooks. I also have the Denise set…and they fit my freakishly small hands…but I don’t like the cables. They are stiff and they don’t move, so to me, they are awkward. I ended up with the Addi Click set. I have one of the Addi hooks I bought a long time ago…it was my go-to hook. I have the gold speckled regular crochet hook, in 7 mm.
I found this video to be very helpful to me, as for what I wanted my Tunisian hooks to do. Thank you, for making videos like this one.
BTW, in February, 2023, on Amazon, the last set you talk about, is on sale for 56% off…and are less than $75. Just a FYI, for anyone else looking for the hooks you mention in this video.

I have the Denise and Love to craft plastic hook sets, and they come apart when I crochet. And the plastic tube cords are a bit unweildy. I too am Susan Bates all the way! I was getting ready to get a Chiaogoo set as I have there knitting needles set. But when I saw the Clover sets with cords the rotate! Bingo I put them in my cart. As of May 2022 they are 84 dollars and change. Thanks for making such informative and fun videos. I started Tunisian crochet after watching your channel.

I was looking for over an hour then I found this video. I was actually looking at the first set you recommended for beginners and the second set you recommended. I love to crochet and am pretty much self taught, but from my years of starting projects I have learned NOT to throw $ into something new to me ( especially with my sometimes stiff fingers) I ordered the $20 set and a fine sandpaper along with a crochet organizer bag…. All for under $50

My husband gifted me with the Knitters Pride, 24k gold set, a few months ago and I’ve been using them daily on Christmas gifts. I had them in my carry-on yarn bag when we went out of state to celebrate my father’s 80th bday. They were there going into security, my bag was dumped and looked through at security. When we got home, they were gone. I’m still stressed and to the point of tears. Why my Tunisian hooks?! Like you said, the least used tool.
Money is extremely tight so the gift was Amazing. Sadly I’m mid-projects and can’t replace them. However, I loved them and highly recommend. You are right in the odd direction the hook gets turned at times, but it wasn’t bad enough for me not to love them.
Thanks for your videos! I’ve been a fan for a while now. My son who’s in college and a knitter told me he’s ready to learn to crochet. I sent him a link to you and he texted right back that he’d found you himself and was enjoying your beginner videos!

  • @clairdw

    Love your videos!
My favourite hook was a sizeless dowel stick with a wooden knob at the one end as stopper, a hook that was cut back fairly deeply anthat had a more conelike end. It was sanded, sealed and varnished. I accidentally broke the hook once and it repaired beautifully with fibreglass tape and resin. I made a Lot of bulky knit beadpreads with that hook. 30 stitches, 30 rows per block, and crocheted together with a border. I miss that hook! I prefer quality bamboo or plastic hooks now. Tapered, but plastic hooks break under heavier work, so metal seems right. So far I havent found interchangeable or long string hooks that dont catch on the yarn where the cord joins to the hook.

I got some of the knit pal double ended tunisian hooks, but I got them too long. I'm going to have to get a shorter set. It did come with a small fingernail type file. That is nice. I also purchased a set of Luvix hooks, 23 piece, with both metal and bamboo hooks. The metal hooks are the extra long ones with a cap permanently attached to the end. Sometimes I get annoyed with that because the end gets in my way. The bamboo ones are attached to their own cords and I love them. Now I'm going to start researching some of these interchangeable hooks. Thank you for sharing your experience Toni 💖

After watching your video and after days of scouring the websites for Tunisian crochet hooks, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the Clover hook set. I found it on Amazon for just under 100.00. OMG! What a game changer. The set is so worth it. I love the smooth feel in my hands and the smoothness it provides when working the Tunisian stitches. Love the ease of the attachments and not having to deal with twisting and constantly readjusting the project on the needle. I am so recommending to anyone that has reservations !!! Thank you and BTW, love the videos.

Toni, I agree with you about the cords. I knit and crochet, and I love Susan Bates hooks. However, the only reason I switched from Susan Bates circular needles to a couple of other brands was the cords. I find the Susan Bates circs a bit stiffer than others such as Addi and Chiagoo. I haven’t yet used a hook with a cord, but when I do, I definitely want nicer cords on my hooks.

Thanks to my Cajun grandma, I've been crocheting since I was, like, six. It has only been in the last year that I discovered tunisian crochet. And, because I do nothing the easy way, I immediately took on a larger project and got around it by "making" a tunisian crochet hook by using a regular hook and a wire wrapped in tape. It worked, but I just have to admit to myself Maybe It's A Good Idea To Buy The Right Tool For The Job. Thank you so much for this video to help me with that!

I started out with the bamboo set with plastic tubing via Amazon for less than $25 Canadian. Yes, they are a bit rough but someone suggested waxed paper as well and that did the trick. I may sand them + apply a few coats of spray varnish to get them smoother. Need to get a few more Tunisian crochet project ideas (hint hint hubby to buy Toni's book) and then the clover set would be on next year's wish list. I love all of my clover products - knitting needles, interchangeable knitting needle set, amour hooks and tapestry needles so the Tunisian set would complete the family. Thanks for the review and enjoy the holiday season, Toni.

i got the denise tunisian crochet hook set ages ago after seeing it on your channel and i Love them so much !! they have my favorite cable locking method ive seen on any sort of interchangable yarn tool and the little case they come in is cute and keeps me from losing them :D that being said, they are a little too short to use on their own! i always just put one of the really short cables in the end if im using them for a non-tunisian or small tunisian project and that works fine 💖 when i decided to get into knitting, i grabbed a cheap interchangeable set off amazon just to make sure i gave it a fair shot and knew if i wanted to stick with it and the moment i decided i was in, i jumped back over to denise and got an interchangeable knitting needles set 💖

I purchasedd the set from KnitPal and love them. Because my tension seems to vary depending on the stitch, having a set allowed me to change the hook size readily. Personally, I don't care if the cable rotates as I have yet to find a need for it and I have now done a lapghan with 12 different Tunisian stitches, Toni's gingham baby blanket (came out beautifully), and am working on a twin size gingham blanket and it hasn't mattered if the cable rotated or not.

I just wanted to mention that I picked up an awesome set on Amazon for 25.99, free shipping with prime. The corded hooks are a fixed cord, but are bamboo and super smooth, and the uncorded hooks are aluminum. The hooks go from 2.0mm to 8mm, at .5 mm increments up until 6mm when it goes to 1mm increments. Same with the corded bamboo. The aluminum hooks have even helped me with my home renovations, so they are multipurpose!

Watching your videos on Tunisian crochet got me interested in it, and, while I'm not really doing it at the moment, I will. I'm still teaching myself crochet, so it's fun to play with Tunisian as well. I got your beautiful book yesterday, and I'm already trying to decide which one to do first!
Thanks for always being such a bright spot in my day. I really just wanted to say how much I appreciate you and your content!

I got the Denise set and YES!! They are a smidge too short! I don't regret buying them because I love the larger sizes and they are smooth but a bit uncomfortable. Good affordable introductory interchangeable hook set though, just wish they were another inch longer...

After several months of research and buying a fixed set to try I invested in the Chiaogoo interchangeable needles two Christmases ago. For bout a year I have had my eye on the hooks because not only do they have good reviews, they are cross compatible with my needles. I’m hoping I will get them for Christmas but if not I will get them soon after and am so looking forward to learning Tunisian and continuing to experiment with blending knitting and crochet together.

I have 3 different Tunisian crochet hooks. I have a complete set of aluminum single hooks, a decent set of fixed hooks that I use for blankets - bamboo for the hook, and a full set of Denise plastic B-1 US to Q size. I'm saving for a Chiagoo interchangeable. If you also knit, you should be able to use the longer knitting cables for large projects.

Tried some swatches of knit stockinette, Tunisian on a long shank hook and regular crochet with HDC--and with a DK to worsted yarn. Think I'll try the Knitter's Pride set and see how I like using them, working in Tunisian---also bought your book in Kindle since I can view on my 12.9 Ipad Pro. Been following you for awhile and have been tempted to try Tunisian--and now I will.

Hey Toni! I’m just now getting to sit and watch this video (working in healthcare is crazy rn!) And I’m so happy the Clover set made your list!! As a knitter and crocheter, I love the Clover Takumi set since I can use the cables and end caps between my crochet hooks and knitting needles. Plus the spinning cables is a complete game changer. I love your videos so much and enjoy watching them while I work on projects. It’s like stitching with a friend. Sending lots of love! 💖💖

I ordered the Knitters Pride bamboo hooks from Amazon a few days ago for $36.91! I thought they seemed like they would be good for my very first Tunisian hooks, so it was nice to see you recommend them as well! I can’t wait to receive them and get started learning Tunisian crochet! I kept seeing Tunisian projects I really liked so I thought I might as well start learning. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 💜

I have the Clover set. Iike it. It is well organized & has a lot it comes with. It is also easy to store & is very portable. It is on the pricey side but, as you mentioned Toni, with a 50% off coupon, it makes it more affordable. I got mine discounted & from JoAnn's.

As I'm just starting out, I opted for an inexpensive complete set of 10 inch hooks with the stopper at the end instead of the long cord. The full set cost only $10, allowing me to I actually like tunisian crocheting with minimal monetary investment. I do like it, however, I will continue to use this set before I graduate to the $150 set, which is the best option, in my opinion, as it seems more user friendly (i.e., ease of and less parts for set up, swivel cord). Thank you for the video and providing options for users at all levels and budgets.

Mmmmm I saw that Furls Kingsnake... my partner just gave me one as a gift ❤️ I've been looking at the Chiaogoo sets and I'm glad to hear they're definitely worth it. Also THANK GOD someone else also prefers in-line hooks, I'm the odd one out in my circles.

I have both the clover and the chiao goo, I love them both, I just wish there was a hybrid of their cords.....like I want their cords to get together and have a hybrid cord baby because the clover swivels which is great, but he chiao goos won't kink or warp like the regular plastic cords will due to the metal inside them, both are fabulous products.

I tried the knitpal hooks when I first wanted to try Tunisian Crochet. They shredded any yarn I tried to use on them. They definitely needed to be sandpaper. I ended up returning them and getting a $10 metal set (no cords) and a $15 plastic set with fixed cables. The metal set is great. I use them all the time. The plastic set was a good starter set, but knit picks had a 40% off sale and I made my own set of wooden hooks. I prefer metal hooks overall, but I don't make metal interchangeable hook money.
