2021 Subaru Outback - REVIEW - not fast, but Blu really rates it

  • Could you really love a practical car? If it just did everything you ever asked of it and went about its business fuss-free and competently, wouldn't it just be a bit...boring? Maybe. But we think the new Outback has got enough great design and functionality to overcome those objections. Thing is ...is it fast enough for Blu? Watch and witness.

    Thanks Blu. today is about the 4th time I've watched this review and it is by far the best out there. No complaints that is CVT, no complaints that is not grunty, just good practical info.
    As I had bought my wife a 2020 Premium I was particularly interested in your references to the previous model and yesterday managed to take the base version for a drive. I'm impressed at the difference. It was not until I drove the 2020 home afterwards that it hit me how much more refined the steering was - and I would not have ever complained about last years model.
    As we are oldies last years outback and this years XV were supposed to be the cars to see us out. Best laid plans and all that - ordered a Touring this morning and it will be the 19th Subbie in the family since 1987

      Hi Roy. Thanks for your very kind feedback - much appreciated. So glad to hear your obvious enthusiasm for Subarus is continuing unabated. Really sorry if I helped stitch you into a new car prematurely but, to be honest, it sounds like you’re pretty keen on getting a new Subbie frequently (19 since ‘87!!).
      I reckon you’ve got great taste and you’re a fine example of the brand loyalty that Subaru enjoys over almost every other auto brand (and certainly every other Japanese car brand.)
      I’m sure your new Touring will continue to reward your affection for the cars of the old Fuji Heavy Industries. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers. Blu. 👍

    Thanks for posting this.
    Hopefully we can eventually get one here in Australia in these trying times. Who would have thought - customers chasing sales people who don’t get back to you!

    Enjoyed your video all the way around the globe to the US. (I’ve thought positively of living in NZ for last several decades, have heard many good things). Hope you all get the turbo option soon, even tho my wife’s 21 Touring we did not spring for it, and I have older 2016 middle of road model. As you state, the base engine is not actually slow, not as awful as early to mid-80’s 4 cylinders I’ve had, they were curb-crawlers. I best describe Suubie standard 2.5L as "adequate", very adequate. If big city merging the secret seems to be to lock it in manual mode and make it scream 5,000 rpm. If pulling something medium to lighter side or mountainous or high altitude, I’d likely for sure opt for turbo. Deep snow country, we’ve loved Subarus for decades, plus the Outback is a good height to just stand up on long old legs and get out. 21 Touring FINALLY brings some refinement. I think prior they prioritized an excellent AWD system and awesome safety. You are right, looking at all around EVERYthing, they are very good cars. That "everything" is actually pretty awesome in totality.

      Hey thanks for your feedback Skunkers7. Glad you liked the video and pleased to hear that you’ve cracked how to get the most out of your Sub. We’re waiting with baited-breath for the Turbo here as overtaking on our short straights is the one thing the current 2.5 struggles with. Cheers for watching. Cheers. Blu.

    Hey, nice review! Ordered a Sport (i.e. X) in May and the good news was delivery in August, which seems to be as good as it gets these days. And they’re still telling me that. I think it’s the sweet sport too, with front and side cameras for parking that you don’t get on the base model. Only down side is losing the 2011 Forester I’m trading. Diesel, and manual. Gonna miss that.

    Great review thanks. The new Outback seems to be the perfect vehicle for me in the English/Scottish borders. It’s a mystery to me why Subaru don’t sell more cars in the U.K. than they do.

    • @CarNutvideos
      @CarNutvideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the feedback Johnny. You’re right, the Outback is so good at so many things it makes a lot of sense. I think what Subaru is going to have to do quite quickly is produce at least a hybrid version, if s full EV is still a ways away. Otherwise a shifting market sentiment may seem them go the way of Kodak. Cheers for watching. Blu.

      I agree - perfect for many parts of the U.K that are high up/hilly and often poor weather. We are looking right now at the new Touring model - we live 1200feet up in the Pennines. They don't seem to have meany dealers in the U.K and I don't think many people are even aware of Subaru. Shame.

    nice video, had a sport version here in Australia for an overnight test drive and its a cracking vehicle. I am wondering if its worth waiting for the Turbo, however, I've heard it isn't engineered for right hand drive and dealers are obviously reluctant to even acknowledge its own the way.
    Having said that the 2.5 is adequate for its given application - covering large distance at 110kmh is serene comfort.

    • @CarNutvideos
      @CarNutvideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment Shaun. Yeah, we’ll have to wait and see on the turbo front but, as you say, the 2.5-litre is pretty compelling as it is. Cheers for watching. Blu.

    Great review mate, I really enjoyed ur honest review of this vehicle, most car experts bag the CVT n naturally aspirated vehicle like outback. I'm contemplating between buying a Forester sport or Outback base model in Australia. Would really appreciate ur input In terms of which one is a sensible choice for a family of 3. Thank you.😃🙏

    • @CarNutvideos
      @CarNutvideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Ricky. Thanks for your encouraging feedback. Between the Forester and the Outback I’d plump for the Outback. I think you’ll enjoy the extra load space length over the Forester and it can’t be denied that the Outback is a better, more resolved look. It’s not for no reason that the Outback is Subaru’s most popular vehicle (by far). And the base model is perfectly fine for spec, too. Good luck and cheers for watching. Blu.👍

    Does the CVT operate like a “proper” CVT in drive (Steps defeat the whole point of being continuously variable?)Surely better to have the 8 steps only in manual mode. Great review!

    • @CarNutvideos
      @CarNutvideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Brodie. When in full auto mode the transmission slurs between all available ratios in a continuously variable manner with no steps. You can access the preset 8 ratios via paddles in either ‘Drive’ or ‘Manual’ modes. Otherwise, it’s a CVT and all that that means. Cheers for watching. 👍

      Hi there. Well, it's not been announced yet but I have it from a very reliable source, that it's likely the turbo is coming down under either late this year or early next. I too hope this turns out to be true. Cheers for watching. Blu.
