  • Everything’s getting more expensive, but some have found a way to beat inflation. Banding together to buy in bulk gets better prices and helps defray delivery costs. This is the magic of group buy. From groceries and ready-to-eats to home fixtures, savings can be as much as 30% to thousands of dollars. Host Andrea Chong hunts down bargain hunters who rule the world of group buy.
Jazmine Ng regularly uses group buy to purchase groceries, snacks, and other household items, saving about 20-30% of her household expenses per month. Her group buy host, Kelly Sia, reveals her bargain hunting prowess. She manages two group buy groups while running her own home and managing her kids. But Candy Pan takes it to the next level. She manages several group buy groups that reach out to a network of 60,000 bargain hunters, tops it all. How does she do it and what is in it for her?

People don't realise the FULL cost of dishonesty in their society. This host who puts the group buy items on the corridor can run her business without being too worried about the items being stolen. Opportunities are created. Savings are made. etc.. That's truly wonderful.
When I visit a country where I'm concerned about snatch thieves grabbing my phone or handbag or burglaries are common, this sort of business would be much more costly to run.

alamak auntie. no one will steal group buy items now. but after this goes out on the internet........ a lot of people will know there are free goods outside. hahaha

Singaporeans are not poor that they sink so low to steal. Even the poorest of the poor in Singapore have morals.

Just hope the group buy host is trustable. I once joined a group buy and the host went MIA, even though they did honour a few of the purchases before they MIA.

On a smaller scale, this somewhat puts virtual corporate buying power in the hands of the group buy consumers. Nice concept. My family does this amongst ourselves on various products - food and otherwise.

Usually people who join stays near the host and u order and the host will tell u what time and when to collect. Cameras are essential in case people steal cause these items are usually outside their houses.

Do Group Buy item which is broken offer exchange or refund ? For furniture and electronic equipment do it comes with warranty ? How to claim warranty when you do not even have a official invoice from official business entity ? Do the quality of Group Buy item guaranteed ? A lot of questions that we need to ask when we buy from Group Buy.

Inflation is much better than deflation.
Deflation will cause prices lower. But that's an oversimplification of the problem for those who can't think far enough.
For example, the current deflation in China 🇨🇳 can cause:
    - manufacture closures because they import high price, export low price,
    - farmers can't harvest,
    - layoffs and high unemployment,
    - more home foreclosures because house values are less than what they owe the banks,
    - The real value of China's debt will increase making it hard for China to pay debts,
    - GDP declines,
Countries tackle inflation with raising interest rates.
For deflation, it takes decades to get rid of it with no good solution.

I’m going to make a software for group buying groceries here in the US, people can buy what they normally do, the app will aggregate data from everyone single purchases into a single bulk order purchase for discounts, then people will have the choice to either pickup their groceries or have it delivered for an additional fee, I’ll make money by charging a monthly subscription fee

I will be unhappy if somebody in my block is a group buy host, especially if it is on my floor level. This will cause more use of the lift, so I may have to wait longer. Then taking space on the common space, which is no no ! Then losing a bit of privacy because more people walking around in my block that don't actually live there. Sorry, I will complain.

There is no need in the US. Costco and Walmart do the work for people.
Or you can just go online and find the cheapest price.

I'm from indonesia....now in indonesia...the chain of commerce (samll store- reseller) in trouble...all producer (manufacturer...importer) due to e-commerce can directly sale to user....all effect down in sale because of this e-commerce. And start happening in singapore....i hope we all can find some balance in the future due to this e-commerce. I'm not saying ecommerce is bad but i also can't say this ecommerce make me easier to make money if i dont have any product of my own.

Group Buy ? More like group think.
The items don’t look fresh. The host kept it for themeselves ?
Daily groceries are what I put in my body for subsistence. I will never trust a host motivated by profits to settle such a important task for me. Not even with that 30% cheaper rate.
On the side note , time to charge these host higher taxes !
